OK, I have an exam at 9:45 this morning (it's 1:20 here atm). I haven't been able to sleep all night due to stress and I can't concentrate enough on work to revise... I'm in a Catch 22! Has anyone got any tips?

Don't drink coffee, soda, or energy drinks. Water is the best thing to drink when you need to study. Lots and lots of water. It will keep you alert and you'll have to piss a lot. You won't fall asleep with a full bladder.

Smoke a cigar, it calms the mind. Go for a run, take a bath, and zone out to some hard rock. Clear your brain and look at your notes again with a fresh set of eyes. We all learn and study differently, but these have always worked for me!

Hope you ace that exam

Valerian root if you have it around the house, natural and puts me to sleep if I'm stressed out.

Play an MMO like WoW, or Vindictus. If you're on the Escapist, grinding is probably what calms you down.

Lay down and listen to some soothing music. Just try to chill.
This, also just glance at some notes now and then and if you feel like you can sleep then try.

Get off the internet... close your phone... disconnect your self from fiber-optic stress, go for a walk then sleep.

Study what you can, lay off sugar and caffeine completely, and most importantly: relax. As long as you go in calm and know your stuff, even if you're not 100% confident in that knowledge, you'll do fine. And in the end, unless it's diplomas, it's not that big of a deal in the long run if you don't do very well.

I'll skip the obligatory "Well, you SHOULD have studied and known all this by NOW" that most folks might hit you with.

If you know your stuff, and the only thing bugging you is the anxiety? Just take it easy. I always liked to make a little jot-list of topics that I'd carry around with me. It kept me from wasting away in front of a book for hours on end, so I could go for a walk, get something to eat - or most importantly, grab a bit of rest before the big show.

Again - IF - you feel confident in your knowledge?

I'd have to agree with those that suggest listening to muic that relaxes you, but also lay back, get comfy, and slowly start breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth, gently inhale then exhale, focus entirly on your breathing and don't allow any errent thoughts in to your mind.

Basicaly that, relaxing music, slow breathing and focus on somthing that relaxes you, most important of all don't think about morning just relax.

Related: I know what it's like to have insomnia, it sucks, for me I could never sleep cause stuff kept creeping in to my head, I'd use white noise to distract my brain, so you could turn your tv on a low volume roll over and let white noise block out all thoughts.

Back when I still used AVG I'd run a scan with instructions tto turn off automaticly, the gentle hum of my PC never failed to put me to sleep.

8 hours is before is really not going to help.

My advice is one last glance on your notes. then have a nice rest then go to your exam refreshed and give it your best shot.

turn off all electronics except your ipod, listen to your ipod while excersising lightly for half an hour. if you have incense or candles (nice and calming) use them, get yourself as comfortable as possible, and let yourself fall asleep

EDIT: also, in the morning, get a non-sugary breakfast with plenty of protein and all that good stuff, and drink orange juice... DO NOT use coffee or sugar, you will regret it at about 12:45

Ah yes, the night before an exam...

I remember a while back, preparing for a calc final the night before by playing Gears of War 2...those were the days
