I guess my tale of woe for a spoiled high school kid starts at PAX east 2010. PAX was the first convention I went to to have a PC game room, and I am ashamed to a admit that i spent most of the time at the convention playing Team Fortress 2. I played that game right through the concerts. JOCO WAS PLAYING (mind you, I also assumed there would be a line, and I thought I lost track of time and wouldn't be able to go, so there were multiple factors.) The sad reality set in when I left the convention. I returned to my steam account, and remembered that my mom is stupidly strict, and won't let me play M games for no reason she will tell me, and she won't listen to reason. Do any of you have any ideas for what I could say to convince her otherwise?

Buy it without your mother knowing about the rating/what you're playing?

Or seeing as it's free right now play it whilst you can.

See if it is possible to buy it via Steam at school? I don't know, you may have to wait until you are old enough if you can't out maneuver your mother on this one.

Perhaps get some screenshots of the game's cartoony graphics (perhaps juxtaposed with images from some of the more violent "Tom & Jerry" episodes for extra effect) to show her. It's quite possible she is thinking realistic graphics gorefest rather than what's actually on display.

Focusing on the social and tactical elements of the gameplay when describing it probably doesn't hurt either.

hm.
She won´t listen to reason?
I´m sorry, but not letting a kid play games not rated for them sounds very reasonable to me, whereas writing in caps and multiple exclamation marks does not.
How did you try to convince her?
I´m sure you noticed, shouting never ever helps.

In your position I always tried to strike a deal with my parents. Let her watch while you play, show her the game, let her know what you are doing. Let her control your screen time, so that it does not get out of hand, things like that.
And also, be thankfull you have a parent that cares! I´m serious, it often seems to me that most parents don´t give a sweet whatever for the doings of their kids.

However, if she remains adamant, their may not be a lot you can do about it.
Waiting for the things you want is a part of growing up. Perhaps its some solace to know that every underage person has to wait for something or other, and these things are often important to them.

I can't get it w/o my mom knowing because I don't have a credit card, and my dad will be suspicious if I try to get him to buy it for me. Also, it's on sale for $10, but not free. Also, who uses whilst?

I guess you buy it and turn down the gore? That way the cartoony graphics will disguise it?

Or just tell her to lighten up and explain you're X years old.
I doubt that will work, because that's actually an immature argument. I've been able to argue for a lot of privileges, and using that argument probably would just make her irritated because it makes me sound sassy. Also, I'm 13... not the best argument of all time.

A lot of people say whilst, it's a common word, but all right, I shall reply with suitable terminology.

Fackin' is free reet now ya wanker, look harder. Valve be throwin' it 'at free till June 13th, so you have like totally got a few hours left bru. Get a fackin move on.

"It's easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission."

Screw your parents, just buy the OJ Box (unfortunately, I don't think TF2 is sold alone anymore) at a local game store, register and install it, then update and play.

Or... just have a Sandvich.

So basically if you had listened to your mother and didn't play an M-rated game, you wouldn't be in this mess. This is why you should always listen to mommy!

Joking aside: that sucks. Maybe you could download it now (free weekend) and show the game (or some YouTube movies) to your mother to show her that this game is in fact very innocent. Maybe that'll help... Good luck!

Your parents have every right to not let you play the game, your underage for it(and you have lied about your DOB on your profile then too), i don't blame them.
But really you cant do anything more then ask, show her the game and beg and reason. Tho honestly i don't see what you've got to bargain with, so you should just suck it up and wait till your mum says OK.
