Horrifically poor alternative.

OT: Your 13 as you have said so your parents have ultimate authority, just let it slide I guess. How about you start to play some RTS. That one you might have an argument with if they are M (except maybe warhammer). But older RTS dont have too much usually gore and their better so stock up on them! Get a Total War game and learn history, or get Homeworld and learn how fleet battles are fought in space. Hmmm well I am outa suggestions..

get a prepaid credit card and buy it on steam.
your mother should be none the wiser.
you can also turn on "silly gibs" which makes it so instead of blood and body parts flying everywhere, it's motor oil and robot parts etc

Find a game on sale, and ask your Mom if you can buy it. Don't tell her the price. Buy it at the same time as TF2 (it's currently ten bucks), so it shows up on the same bill. Your Mom should think you bought one normal priced game.

Or, just suck it up and wait until you're seventeen, have your own credit card, and aren't likely to get hopelessly addicted to any given game.

Seriously. All addiction is bad.

EDIT: I just checked your profile. Seriously, I admire your mother for not letting you get 17+ games when you're under seventeen. That's what the tag is THERE for.

Honestly, just wait a month and a half. If she doesn't let you get it after your birthday, then I'll have a bit more sympathy.

EDIT EDIT: Wait, you're thirteen?

A. You lied in your profile.
B. Good luck, then.

Then why on earth do you have a Half-Life avatar? I think TF2 is far less offensive than HL.

And if you have some bullshit reason for explaining that away, accept that you're not going to play it any time soon and realise that asking a gaming site for help about your household rules is not going to get you anywhere.
HL and HL2's ratings aren't displayed on the steam page, so I just assumed they were T because Portal was and I wanted to play HL. Yeah, my mom gave me hell for not researching. As to your second point, I'm mostly just bored, and when I'm bored I post whatever crap comes to mind to whatever forum I happen to be on at the time.

Your parents have every right to not let you play the game, your underage for it(and you have lied about your DOB on your profile then too), i don't blame them.
I don't like to give sites my actual information, that's why I lie about my DOB on my profile. I'm much less nervous to say my DOB on a message board, because it'd be too hard to track me down off of that alone. As to your second point (which I seem to be saying a lot) I've been able to haggle and argue to break rules in the past, so I think if I can get a good enough argument, I'll be able to win this too.

OK, addiction is an overstatement. It's not like I can't sleep at night because I can't play this game. It's just that it bugs me and addiction is a good word to use in a headline. Secondly, I admit that I probably won't have to wait until I'm 17. It is surprising how easy it is to get my way with her. I'll probably be able to get it when I'm 15 or 16.
Also, I feel like ratings should be guides, but not unbreakable rules. For example, I was able to watch Blues Brothers when I was 10 because I was already mature enough to know that just because someone in a movie says the F-bomb 100 times doesn't mean I should do the same. I think the same applies to videogames. I quite frankly don't understand what negative affect playing this game would have on me, which is why I argue for it.

Well out of all of the gory, unnecessarily swear infested, macho shooters out there Tf2 is probably the best for the less mature.

-Cartoon Graphics
-Unrealistic weapons
-Practically no swearing

So although I wouldn't recommend a child playing a Mature game, if they were gonna then it have to be this.

As for your predicement, just play it on the free weekend, If you still enjoy it, just ask your mom to download it, adn don't tell her it's rated M, hell they'res nothing in there that's going to truamatise you, other then soem of the sprays, but you can just disable them in options.

Have you played Heroes?

Quite a fun game, IMHO, very upbeat and balanced.

Also, I'm 13... not the best argument of all time.
You could...
1.)I couldn't seem to find the rating on the steam page, so you could try to trick your mother.
2.)Explain to her that Team Fortress 2 is completely appropriate for you by showing her screens of the cartoony graphics.
3.)Buy it behind her back by getting a Visa giftcard.

Maturity(emotional, not physical) has less than most people think to do with age. I was 11 when I entered my first online community and they never discovered my true age or thought of me as immature.
Try not to punch everyone who says your mother is right; you might pull a muscle or something

Personally whenever I wanted something I couldn't get myself (age ratings specifically), I always used to tell my parents that it was "a fact of life these things happen, so I might as well get on with seeing them. It's not like it's bothered all the other people my age who've seen and/or played them, is it?"
It used to work a treat on my parents, ever considered trying that?

After that, I have to admit that there are some things not appropriate to those under the age limits, but Team Fortress 2 is definitely not one of them.
