Okay, so, I need recommendations for good Steampunk games. I'm not sure if any (besides Bioshock) exist, but I'd really like to know if anyone has played or heard of any cool games about the Steampunk genre or has Steampunk elements.
This. Fallout is amazing.miracleofsound said:Fallout series
There's a new one coming out by the makers of Doom, can't remember the name of it though...
Not steampunk, but play it anyway.miracleofsound said:Fallout series
Rage? I haven't looked into it, but I didn't see steampunk...miracleofsound said:Fallout series

Not strictly, no, but a lot of the visual aesthetic is reminiscient of the steampunk style.pigeon_of_doom said:The Thief series for an unholy mix of steampunk and arcane rituals.

This, definatly. It was also one of the best RPGs I every played.Krakyn said:Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is the most steampunk game I can think of.
The name is Rage. It's by id, so I don't see how it could be anything but great.miracleofsound said:Fallout series

This, although Thief 1 is a lot less steam punk than Thief 2. (Thief 3 is somewhere in the middle).pigeon_of_doom said:The Thief series for an unholy mix of steampunk and arcane rituals.
I think you are just mistaking the Victorian trappings of the 1950s culture for elements of steampunk. Fallout fits squarely in the post-apocalptical period piece style for me.miracleofsound said:Not strictly, no, but a lot of the visual aesthetic is reminiscient of the steampunk style.
Nope, it is simply my untrained eye (I don't know anything about the history of steampunk) noticing similarities between some of the crazy steampunk inventions and the Fallout weapons and items like the pip boy or rock-it launcher... the feeling of things that aren't originally designed to fit together fitting together in a bizarre but pleasing hybrid.pigeon_of_doom said:I think you are just mistaking the Victorian trappings of the 1950s culture for elements of steampunk. I don't know loads about the genre either, but with Fallout it just seemed to me that the Victorian sensibilities and the steam based technology (two huge aspects of steampunk) were missing. The technology in Fallout is quite primitive and haphazard, but thats in keeping with the setting.miracleofsound said:the feeling of things that aren't originally designed to fit together fitting together in a bizarre but pleasing hybrid.
