Watch My Neighbor Totoro. Or Ponyo. Or Kiki's Delivery Service. Or all three if you're particularly depressed.

Umm, yes? Too the point where it's almost self parody, actually.
Feel free to share how.

There's nothing particularly 'dark' in ASoIaF that didn't happen medieval states during times of war. Hell there's nothing particularly 'dark' in ASoIaF that doesn't happen in modern states during times of war.
A man whose tortured into insanity, then is treated like a dog. Literally, with a collar. Or a guy whose beheaded, and has a wolf head sewn on. I do feel like Martin tries to hard, and in the end I sort of roll my eyes at how dark and gritty he thinks everything is.
Ummm... look up the stuff that goes on in the real world. Like Unit 731 for example. Or Jeffrey Dahmer. Anything the nazis did. The Tuskegee syphilis experiments. Rwanda. Pol Pot. Almost anything that goes on in warring Africa. Gang rapes in India. I'll be willing to bet at some point in history someone has had their decapitated head replaced with a wolf's one. Martin's not trying too hard at all. Sure it may seem over the top, but you'd be hard pressed to say it is once you realize what kind of things a frenzied crowd can do.

Yes, because I'm sure everyone who has or ever will watch Game Of Thrones has seen a 3 week old episode by old. Spoilers are spoilers no matter how long ago it was aired.
You go into a thread that uses GoT as one of its main themes, and expects there not to be spoilers? I'm sorry, but in this day and age of information sharing, we're both at fault for this. Me, because I didn't EXPLICITLY SPECIFY A SPOILER WARNING by using the spoiler tag, and you for reading the answer to the post that questioned what OP was talking about. I believe it's fairly easy to imagine that it would be a spoiler.

I would also like to use this video as an example for how to treat spoiler warnings.
Although humorous in intent, I think this is a fairly valid point to treating spoilers online. And now I don't want to hear any more about it.

I edited my post, I just wasn't paying attention when I was shortening the quote, chill the beans.

You could watch a tiny hamster eating a tiny burrito :)

Or you could come to terms with the fact you are only one of a relatively small collection of distinct groups of matter, perhaps the only collection of such groups for huge distances around (by some considerable magnitude) whom are capable of experiencing consciousness subjectively, and that fictional imagery (especially the sort which makes 'shocking' images it's bread and butter) shouldn't effect you so profoundly.

Try the hamster first.

You lost your faith in humanity from a scene in GoT?
Yeesh, that's a bit dramatic.

By the way, Tolkien, even at his darkest, was never this bad. Martin is just a lazy hack writer. I think I had your same reaction in my head, but I refuse to spend anymore time wasted on this show just to be shat on
He's a lazy hack writer because of one scene you didn't have the stomach for?
If you're this shocked, I'm going to hazard a guess and say that you haven't read the books, if that's the case "lazy hack writer" isn't a label you can apply with authority.
no hes a hack writer cause he relies too much on shock value and not enough on story telling. Then again that's my opinion and just like assholes everyone has one.

OT: I believe you much watch Vandred in English dubs (trust me this ones pretty good with the dub voices and absolutely funny.)

If you've lost your faith in humanity because of something that happened in Game of Thrones, then the best and simplest way to restore it would be to go outside, look around, talk to people and interact with humanity until it dawns on you that Game of Thrones isn't real life, and real humanity doesn't abide by what happens in Game of Thrones.

There you go, instant faith in humanity restoration, and it probably won't take more effort than walking to the end of your street.
The implication being that Game of Thrones is somehow darker and more violent than real life
Umm, yes? Too the point where it's almost self parody, actually. Read game of thrones. Enjoy it. But don't think for a moment that its a good representation of reality. It's not even a good representation of the Middle Ages.
In medieval times, people were literally torn apart while still alive, or flayed in public. People are still being burned alive and tortured to death to this day. You SEVERELY underestimate how bad life was and still is for a lot of people on this planet.

I recently re-watched the entirety of Lucky Star. I find an episode of that usually cures what ails you.

Another anime I've found recently is Girl und Panzer Schoolgirls and mock(bloodless) tank combat. How could that go wrong?

Well... You can watch Afro Samurai... It has Samuel L. Jackson in it... and, honestly, that's underselling it in my opinion...

Other than that... uh... Pani Poni Dash... REALLY will lighten you up with its "randomness"...

Not really. I know plenty. I know all about Nanking. About the genocide in Rwanda. About experiments performed by the Nazis. About torture techniques used by cultures all across the globe, from all different time periods, from being drawn and quartered to having your lungs removed and placed beneath your shoulder blades while your still alive. About the use of rape as a war tactic, or about mass murders or deaths caused during the Reign of Terror, The Great Leap Forward, or during Stalin's time in charge. I can tell you all about Caligula, and the sick sick things he did.

But these don't form a complete picture of human life. In fact, they're so famous because they're rare. They represent those rare occasions where society breaks down. The truth is, the Dark Ages were not nearly as bad as people believe. Furthermore, the world has statistically been becoming a more peaceful place for generations. It's never been a better time to be human. And yet OP can't even ask for light hearted recommendations without everyone jumping on him, and telling him that he's misinformed, and that his opinion is stupid. I do apologize for being snarky earlier, but I do get annoyed when smug Martin fans feel the need to tell people how the world REALLY is. I'm not saying that of you, of course, or even anybody in particular. It's just an annoying trend I've noticed. But I feel like it's a faulty world view.

Which book is this from? (Just curious about what I have to look forward to, don't say any more than which book it is).

So a few days ago after the last episode of the season aired I binge watched Game of Thrones, ending on episode 8. For one, the horrible image at the end has haunted me for days, 2. I refuse to watch anything having to do with that show ever again.

What could I watch to get my spirit back up? What could I watch to get that out of my head? Everything is fair game, movies, TV, cartoons/anime, it just has to be positive in some way.
Do you mind reading a book? Because if not, I can recommend

the Caiaphas Cain series, by Sandy Mitchell. It's like Blackadder... IN SPACE! And the funniest part is that the rest of the 40k universe is so Grimdark (C) it'd make ASoIaF look tame if it wasn't so over the top.

I actually recommend WH40k books by Dan Abnett ot CHIAPHAS CAIN-HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!!!

Because they kind of subvert the grim-dark setting.
Trouble you for a cup of tana tea sir/madam?

OT

Jesus Christ everyone, is it really so offensive to your brutally hardened cynical selves that the op was bummed out by Game of Thrones?

As for the op, I recommend MLP or if that's not up your alley, basically anything by Pixar Studios.

This.

I personally want to get into Game of Thrones and enjoy a good bit of brutality myself, but I certainly don't mind anyone who doesn't. Evidently everyone else in this thread feels differently and needs to point out how lame the original poster is because they don't enjoy all the death/gore/horror that they aren't fazed by!
