But these don't form a complete picture of human life.
I'll sidestep the discussion on the shittiness of feudal society and the shittiness of modern society and get straight to the point.

You argued that ASoIaF is unrealistic because a man was tortured and another man's corpse was desecrated. These thing happened in feudal societies and continue to happen in modern society.

Your point was wrong.
I do apologize for being snarky earlier, but I do get annoyed when smug Martin fans feel the need to tell people how the world REALLY is. I'm not saying that of you, of course, or even anybody in particular. It's just an annoying trend I've noticed. But I feel like it's a faulty world view.
Amusingly I noted to a friend the other day that Game of Thrones has brought about this annoying trend where privileged members at the centres of imperialism feel the need to point out how "unrealistic" Game of Thrones is and how fine and dandy the world truly is,
Yerp. You'll sidestep the entire discussion I made, thus missing the point.

In any case, go on hating the world or whatever. All I said was that, statistically, the world has been becoming more peaceful for well over a hundred years. This includes crime rates, war casualties, and more. But clearly I'm wrong because your favorite pop writer says so, and OP is an idiot for wanting something that's not durk n' gritey. No one ever said that the world was filled with rainbows and unicorns. Of course there are atrocities. I was just pointing out that Martins nihilism isn't a realistic view of life.

What happened at the end of episode 8 again? I forget. It can't have been that disturbing.

Maybe you could cheer yourself up by watching Audition? Just a suggestion.

So a few days ago after the last episode of the season aired I binge watched Game of Thrones, ending on episode 8. For one, the horrible image at the end has haunted me for days, 2. I refuse to watch anything having to do with that show ever again.

What could I watch to get my spirit back up? What could I watch to get that out of my head? Everything is fair game, movies, TV, cartoons/anime, it just has to be positive in some way.
Had to read some comments, and eventually figured out which episode you were talking about, could have made it a bit more clear.

Anyhow, I know how you feel, took me a week before I could get it out of my head, and still don't like thinking about it.
Yes it was horrible, but give it some time. One day you will remember that you forgot about it and then you should be all good.
Even so, I think it's neat that a show can make people react like that, it has never happened before, at least not to me.

I wouldn't write off the rest of the show though, just keep in mind that they are not afraid to do/show something like that, and that will keep you on edge for a while.

As for what to watch to cleanse your mind? Dig up some sitcoms, that should lighten the mood.
Maybe try something far, far away from that age and watch some scifi? Farscape is good, just stay away from the "A Clockwork Nebari" if eyes is a sore spot.

Or you could watch The Boondocks, they are currently airing season 4.

Or you could just watch some Studio Ghibli films, if they don't put some faith back in you, nothing will.

Well, since you insist, I will amuse you one last time.

I was upto date on the show anyway. I'm not talking about me, and it's still no excuse to spoil something on a site that has spoiler tags for that reason. I give no shits to some random video about spoiler times from Youtube. It's a simple thing to not spoil something, cleary spoiling is just being a dick for no reason.
By that logic, saying that Mufasa dies in Lion King is still to be considered a dick move, even though the movie came out in 1994, or saying that Tasha Yar in Star Trek: The next generation dies at the end of season 1, despite the fact that the season was originally aired in 1987.

Despite what you think, I'm not trying to be a dick. I'm working firmly on the assumption that anyone who is actively trying to avoid spoilers, and knows just how the internet works, will avoid any and all forum threads and board threads that can and/or will touch on the subject. The mere title of this thread is a dead giveaway that anyone who has yet to see the last 3-4 episodes of season 4, where most major spoilers are anyway, except for one; or has yet to see season 4; or the show at all, but intends to see it in the future, will avoid this thread because of its title, which is an invitation to those that are up to date on the series, and a warning for those who aren't. And to carry on my attitude, I don't care about people who aren't smart enough to NOT open these kinds of threads. And I can assure you, even if I never do this again in the future, someone else will.

Yes, it was an act of carelessness on my part, but you overreacted, and jumped on the conclusion that I was intentionally spoiling in a thread that is almost guaranteed to contain a spoiler or two. Even if the title thread doesn't specify that there is a chance for spoilers within, it is easy for any discerning human being to consider the possibility that there could be some spoilers within, and will move on to another thread were such spoilers would have been contained within a spoiler warning box, and which I would have used, had the theme of the thread been a different one.

Which book is this from? (Just curious about what I have to look forward to, don't say any more than which book it is).
First book, like... middleish? in the 300's.
Hm, guess I read it already then.
