I mean, seriously? You want an option at the beginning of the game to turn off all the gay content?
As much as you've jumped off the deep end as far as putting words in people's ... hands, I honestly don't see what is wrong with this option. Similarly an option to switch off all heterosexual content also.

An option at the beginning of the game to select your sexual preference will be no more intrusive than selecting starting statistics, character background and other personality traits.

There is no reason why homosexuals should have heterosexuality forced upon, and vice versa and I honestly see this as an excellent method of satisfying both crowds.

In fact - half the reason I have avoided Dragon Age so far (even though fantasy is completely my cup of tea) is the almost juvenile pandering in the sexuality department, my understanding of it coming from audience and developer alike.

I feel the way it is described would jerk me away from the experience - not because of orientation, everyone could be gay/bi/straight for all the interest I would show it, more the execution and how it seems to be forced upon you.

In all honesty? I wish there would be an option to turn off all romance options, it adds little to nothing to the arc and serves only to achieve headlines and publicity; a mirror of the intelligence of the media and audience that consumes it.

I think everyone is missing out on one little important point - A LOT OF YOUR CREW ARE ALIENS , THEY WONT SEE US AS MALE OR FEMALE JUST AS HUMANS.

Ahem, and it is very possible for some characters to be gay, Shepard could be gay simply because of the fact that Shepard does whatever the player wishes. Garrus could be gay, due to the point above, same goes for all alien crew members.
Also its not as if it would come up at any point, while the characters all trust and are friends with Shepard, it doesnt mean that they would just suddenly share theur sexual preference with their commander, due to it never seeming that important to them or just due to fear of discrimination.

Give the man a prize. I never actually thought about that properly, which is stupid considering Liara was my first romance as a female Shepard and Liara's almost exact argument is that she is neither male nor female, she just IS.

The Alien argument is very valid. Many of the very alien species could just see humans as that, simply humans. The more humanoid species might have more of a problem, however. Just for the sake of an argument. For example, Thane is more human in appearance than Garrus and therefore might be attracted to female Shepard as we know he was married to a woman of his species. However, that's just speculation on my part.

I think everyone just has to agree here that the reason that a lot of people are freaking out about the sudden gay relationships is not that they mind gay relationships or characters, but rather that they don't want to be put in that position - a la Dragon Age II - where you either have sex with the person or they hate you and are completely cold towards you. You don't want to have to tell all your companions to fuck off, it completely pulls you out of the game.

We can only hope that BioWare fixes their relationship system and makes it 'harder' to lock into a romance. I personally think that the characters going bisexual and what not aren't the problem, but rather I'm afraid their characters might be thrown under the bus to do so. Or not being able to have in depth chats with my team in fear of them taking it 'the wrong way'.

This is all kind of funny, really. I intend to romance Liara, again, who is basically bisexual and has always been. I just don't want everyone and their grandmother to be all over me from the get go :p Relationships should be treated with dignity and not thrown into one's lap.

As a side note, I think the attacks on Poop di Loop are unjustified. I doubt he ever meant to say anything against homosexual or bisexual people. I think he was just afraid that the homosexual romances would be handled in the same clumsy manner of those in Dragon Age II.
