Don't worry. Its not as as bad as most people say.

For a first-timer, just go with what seems the coolest option.

I hear V4 is extremely simplified and fucked. One of my friends, who occasionally plays D&D says it's not so bad in sense that you don't have to waste a whole day for creating a character and rolling all the stats and such.

Meh. I heard enough bad things, I'd rather play 3.5
See that's the problem people honestly never give 4.0 a chance and they get upset because now they cant say The long sentence "In Dragon magazine #321 It shows you how to make a flame thrower with dragon wings but you need to take the 3 feats necessary to make it and if you take a extra feat it will make the flamethrower able to shoot ice, acid and lighting damage You'll need to take that feat to make the wings fly faster and make them bigger so you'll be able to kill Tiamat in one hit and able to run out in one round before her minions come "

The only problem i can see is the magic. And the skills needed to be simplified really hide and move silently are two different skills? and second why does intelligences decided how many skills you can take im sure if i could teach a monkey how to read the cat and the hat i could teach him how to climb.

But all and all its still dnd and il play everything from 1.0-4.0

In the game I'm DMing currently one of my players is a Gelatinous Cube Sorceror. That shouldn't work but it does. It does awesomely.

Be a Human Commander or w/e that new class is that is like a fighter, but with lots of buffer spells that help out your party members. That seems like a pretty badass tank if he casted a lot of buffs on himself.

I'm going to assume you were talking to my father, since I'm a big fan of irony.

Be a fucking Tiefling Paladin. I always wanted to play one but the DM's all like "NOOO TIEFLINGS ARE EVIL DEMON CHILDREN WHO LIKE TORTURING BUGS WITH SUNLIGHT TOO MUCH TO BE A PALADIN"

I don't even know what our excuse is. I guess our rogue just has high enough diplomacy skills.

(Real reason why that worked: As DM I'm allowed to cheat a lot, especially when the players want me to. =D)
