I think that any DM who thinks rules are somehow a bad thing, and doesn't tell players "No" whan they're acting like friday night cockblockers, needs to be replaced.
I actually play a Lawful Neutral Cleric, not really the type to conspire to assassinate allies. And believe me, I will be giving our DM a stern talking to.fenrizz said:Can you conspire to assassinate his character?
Perhaps the other players will join in?
You should maybe think about replacing your DM too.
I'd never let shit like that fly when I was DM.
He found a bunch of variant rules online that I know for a fact he's glossing over when he's explaining his bullshit character to our DM. He found some kind of Drow variant that doesn't have a Level Adjustment and something that says he doesn't need to take feats to be proficient with his weeaboo weapons, and I've already said no Martial Adept classes since we don't actually have the book for quick reference during the game, so we would have to take his word on everything he's doing.pffh said:Erm that character will be horribly underpowered. Drow is a +2 LA race. Master thrower hardly synergizes with swordsage and exotic weapon master sucks in this build (since most exotic weapons suck). He'd be more powerful by going straight swordsage and a standard players handbook race.
Basically he's trying to do to much to be effective in any one area. If he wants to be a Jack of all trades point him towards the factotum class in dungeonscape (it's awesome).
He WANTS to play a douchebag. He exactly wants to be the generic wisecracking protagonist you could rip from any bullshit animu, and a by product from that is pushing us all into the sidelines. And bringing it up to our DM? He doesn't see an issue with what this player is doing for some reason.Rblade said:In our group we ussually don't punish someone for doing something silly after it has happend. It ussually simply isn't allowed.
really when someone has found some kind of loophole to create a minmaxed character he still has to run it by the DM. And if the DM looks at it and thinks it will unbalance the group he will simply houserule the shit out of it.
He is the DM, he can just say he won't allow certain things to happen (things like crazy multiclassing or exotic skills and talents from external sources).
A DM should be firm to preserve the balance in that manner, at least that is the vision of my group. One could argue this makes characters boring and samy, but I think it forces you to find originality in your history and actuall character traits.
and if he pushes through this drow of his. remind the DM how much the world at large would wan't a drow rogue/assassin/sorcerer dead. Really that would be the single most unpopular person in the world and on top of any government hired hitmans hitlist. His mere job description SCREAMS dangerous douchebag
Still factotum will do what he's trying to do better and be more fun and balanced and fun.Jitters Caffeine said:He found a bunch of variant rules online that I know for a fact he's glossing over when he's explaining his bullshit character to our DM. We don't actually have that book, and I am unfamiliar with any material from it. But he's explicitly said he want's to play a stealthy class. Which he still thinks he fill that role even after all these classes he's taken levels in.pffh said:Still factotum will do what he's trying to do better and be more fun and balanced and fun.Jitters Caffeine said:He found a bunch of variant rules online that I know for a fact he's glossing over when he's explaining his bullshit character to our DM. Did I mention that factotum is fun (and awesome)?
It's like once a munchkin hit's a certain age, they can never stop being a munchkin. Playing the game for the experience or trying roleplay an epic story becomes an alien concept to them, no matter how you try to explain it they just don't get it.Jitters Caffeine said:Alright, a while back I asked for a little advice about one of our players trying to steal the game from everyone by trying to make a character who could basically end a fight in one round with stupid high amounts of damage. Well that was resolved after the player agreed that it was too much to be a Flying Race with all that.
Well now he's at it again...
Now he's decided the NEXT best thing is being a character that can do EVERYTHING by himself. He's wanting to be a Drow Rogue/Swordsage/Assassin/Master Thrower/Exotic Weapon Master... Basically he's trying to be the Main Tank/Melee DPS/Ranged DPS/Infiltrator/Skill Monkey because for some reason he treats D&D as a fucking arms race of "I can do anything you can do" contest.
Now here's my question this time:
Should I put my foot down again and just tell this player and our DM that if they refuse to get their shit in order, then they can just go play with themselves, and possibly lose our DM and a Player? Or should I just grin and bear it while this asshole plays the game by himself and the DM slowly broods his way to a state of "Him versus Us Players" complex and turns every fight into a personal quest to kill us?
He's focusing more on the story, not so much on "roleplaying" per say. He fancies himself a storyteller/writer (even though the only creative thing he's ever done was be in the High School theater club). But all in all, his campaigns are usually alright. But on about the random rules he finds online, it's kind of my fault since I found this fan made source book I thought was neat because it has this section about armors that give you special abilities based on your BAB. So he just kind of went apeshit with that.Zero47 said:Sounds like your GM is focusing a lot on the roleplay element and forsakes the tactics behind the game. The tactics are needed to keep the game in balance. Why not beat this guy at his own game? Start pushing the GM to overpower your character by allowing his HIDDEN ELF POWERS to be unlocked granting you +10 to all dice rolls, if your DM doesn't allow it bring up that he's inconsistent. Otherwise it will make it pretty clear that the game becomes nonsensical when you start making up races or misinterpreting rules.
That was the FIRST time I had to put my foot down. He had a Raptoran Scout/Warblade/Master Thrower/Bloodstorm Blade/Stormtalon and he was supposedly able to do a flying diving charge for like 30d6 damage a round.hawkeye52 said:I had a problem similar to that a while back with a person who took a character that could put out damage about 3-4x higher then everyone else in the group while also being the tankiest person there. Funny thing was that they had even specced their character badly putting con or str as their dump stat when they were a fighter. I left the game in the end because I didn't like the format and I didn't like how it was being handled. However from what I understand you can't do that.
