Well if it was a guy would the backlash diminish? Because I specifically remember seeing some of those disgusting comments thrown against referencing rape and murder and other things. Just because she was a woman criticizing games, cause games are sacrosanct apparently. So yea I still believe that if it was a woman the same thing would have happened. If it was a guy the backlash would have been smaller. and i snip so that it doesn't make a giant post.

actual answer: I think having a bit of a feminist perspective isn't a bad thing
Well that's incredibly insulting. This comment in particular seems to indicate you don't believe there were feminists having their perspectives listened to before Sarkeesian appeared out of the ether...

Does anyone have an answer for this?

After all, the real question is, are they hiring her because they think she has good ideas, or to avoid being a target in her next video? I bet it's the latter, under the guise of the former. And I think it's good to let her into the studio, see how games are made, and give her one less target to ***** about. I see no problem with this.

And even if they're paying her, it's probably not for her ideas. EA likely sees it as an inexpensive marketing investment.

I disagree that if it was a man talking about gender issues in games that the backlash would be smaller. The internet houses all sorts of hateful people and they don't care what gender you are if you start talking about something they don't want to be talked about.
Nah the backlash would have been greatly dimished in my eyes. Because it was a dude that did. And yes the internet houses a TON of hateful people, but the largest backlash was directed at a woman, not a guy.

Sure, there's plenty of hateful people who don't care what gender you are, but I think there are more hateful mysoginists than hateful misandrists, so I would expect more hate towards a lady.

Though I guess you think there's an equal amount, who knows?

Ok both of you need to read the edit. She's not consulting for ME2 for EA. And she doesn't have targets dude. If there is one thing I took from her videos is that she doesn't care about who makes the game, she cares about criticizing the games themselves.

Captcha: French toast. Captcha is broken I think. For the past few days all I got was french toast, coffee mug and orange juice.

Two words that contradict that:Jack Thompson.
Yea but there weren't death threats sent to him were there? There weren't games made up that showed him with a face beaten to a pulp were there? He wasn't doxxed and scared out of his house, was he? My questions are actual valid questions, I actually don't know. Yea he faced massive opposition, but the community didn't lose its shit as bad as with Anita Sarkeesian. So while your example is good, the opposition against a person that actively sought to censor videogames was much smaller than against Anita Sarkeesian, who only criticizes games. Also let us not forget that most of the opposition was the publishers, developers and their reps in Washington, not the community.

There were some, which then, as of now, kinda proved his point. Not a great chapter in our collective history all told. I do think Sarkeesian has gotten more than Thompson, despite Thompson actually trying to get games, especially GTA, legally banned in the US; not to mention getting disbarred for a wide array of unethical, immoral, and downright looney behaviors towards judges and in court.

While Sarkeesian discusses sexist tropes with varying degrees of persuasiveness.

I don't get the comparison, myself.

The video in the OP has been debunked. This thread should be closed.
Ah ok than. Thanks for that. Thread closed dudes and dudettes. Go home. Nah not really. Discuss away guys, I don't want to censor you. Trolololol. As far as I am concerned, the petition and video, showed in the beginning, just prove the lengths some people go to smear Anita Sarkeesian for daring to talk about videogames. And with that I declare this thread purged, burned. For the Glory of the God-Emperor.
So you're basically admitting that you knew the original content of your post was fake, and you placed it here as bait to attempt to set off another Sarkeesian Hate Festival?

You're not part of the answer, you're part of the problem.

No. I saw the video in the first link. Than a page and a half in the thread someone put up a link that said that the video and petition were complete bullshit. For fairness sake I edited my OP to reflect the new knowledge. And if you see my posts, you will see that I am a Sarkeesian supporter (and undercover operative).
Edit: At least try to find something wrong this time dude.

I take it you never heard of games where the player can kill and beat up Jack Thompson?Hell the man got more hate and death threats than Anita did her first year in the gaming scene. And I'm still not convinced Anita was scared out of her home, call me a skeptic but unless I see actual evidence besides a tweet then I'm going to chalk that up as being melodramatic.
Thanks for answering my questions.

I believe she was driven out of her house. When you involve the FBI at that point the chips are down. IF you fuck around with those guys, the penalties are quite severe. In fact generally pranking the police departments gets you in such massive shit it isn't even hilarious. So yea, it has been months since she put that tweet up and we have proof too that she contacted the police department where she lived and that the feds got involved.

Edit: Sleep time in this part of the world, so see ya tomorrow.

]That depends on the type of feminist perspective, having good and well written female characters be more common in games is something I can get behind.
I'm pretty sure sarkeesian is fairly basic in her points, like its not actually revolutionary

[quote/]Calling a game sexist because a woman wears something sexy or revealing is something I'm wary of.[/quote]
but more often than not is it sexist

*something something* objectification *don't have the energy to explain* whatever.....

lolwut?

I'm not saying she's the best (or only) feminist for the job or whatever

I'm just saying that its good someone's actually [b/]directly asking[/b] for some feminist input EDIT: assuming its true..which is dubious

Wait, so we're not having another Sarkeesian Hate Festival now?

Aw, and I only just hung up the bunting.
