derp?

Hooray for camping!
Camping is an Arcade FPS term. If someone is actually using their head and thinking they should be able to spot trouble spots and use smoke grenades or flashbangs.

I know, I know, I should probably just start learning to make my own FPS game, but I don't think it would take off since I'm apparent;y the only one that likes my system of gameplay. =/

The idea is fine, but it shouldn't be the standard. Most the big FPS series (CoD, MoH, Halo, etc) are fast paced shooters and most people playing them like fast paced shooters. Anyone who wants a change of pace is going to go looking for one and find one of the slower paced ones.

New Vegas' hardcore mode does it well enough for me. I don't need realism, I would just like to relax and escape while I play games.

Left 4 Dead is somewhat like this. If you are downed, you will start bleeding out until you are revived and apply a first aid kit.

I second this, unless it actually works.

I mean i really can't see Master Chief applying a Bandage...

I personally think you may be onto something. However it would probably take a lot of work and $$$ to be able to compete with the likes of COD and Battlefield. I don't think many studios are willing to depart from the formula this much, it would be too much of a risk.

I like the "you have 100 health, if you get shot it get's lowered"

no more of these stupid regenerating health systems, they are retarded.

Well I remember an old Call of Duty mod from United Offensive as well as a mod from COD4 that instead of regenerative health or health packs, you had 1 health bar and then a couple bandages. So when you got shot, your character would slow down (because you were shot!) and would slowly bleed out. the rate of bleeding was affected by where you were shot so it would take longer to bleed out from a foot injury compared to a gutshot. the only way to not bleed to death was to apply a bandage. The bandage would stop the bleeding and heal a small amount of the overall damage but never all of it. I think there was a system similar to this in the Project reality mod from Battlefield 2
Yeah I remember that, but it totally messed up the gameplay in most cases.

However there were times, usually depending on the map, when it was awesome.
Yeah United Offensive did not have the right engine to do some of the things the modding community wanted but some of the maps those guys came up with are just frakking ridiculous

Hear me out, when a person takes damage on STALKER they take a little initial damage and then begin to bleed. More bullets increase the bleeding effect. The only way to stop the bleeding (effectively) is to apply a bandage. Even after using the bandage the blood loss/HP loss is still there, which could regenerate similar to Call of Duty if a compromise HAD to be met.
It has been done before in a FPS, called Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising; the most realistic shooter out there. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Flashpoint:_Dragon_Rising]
It haven't hit the market with a blast exactly. Bet you haven't even heard of it until now. Can't blame you if you have.
Theoretically this would do away with a lot of the problems being faced on FPS games to date. Games would stop becoming who can twitch shoot the best and would be more focused towards who can shoot without being shot (I think we can all agree THAT would take skill). This could also make sniping much more balanced as the bullet could still do high damage but the bleeding rate would be lower, meaning snipers would have to actually snipe...from a distance...like an actual sniper. Also, like STALKER, body armor reduces impact negation but once the bleeding starts there is trouble. I think the closest analogy would be in RPGs with the poison Damage Over Time systems, particularly found in (never going to believe this) Two Worlds. The DOT stacks with every hit so without attention the character is going to die. Maybe this would tone down on the rushing run and gun bile being spewed out across FPS games these days.
Again, already have been made in Flashpoint, and it's a desert-town when it comes to multi-player. Either that, or I have logged on at the wrong times. (I practice it on the Xbox 360, thought it exists on PC and PS3. Might be different there.)
Possibly both.
Oh, if this is ever used in a game, I'm not suing because this isn't originally my idea. (talking to James and all them from Extra Credits)
Yepp...
On a side-note, I just felt like giving the campaign one more go.
... The enemies are just fucking ridiculous though. They spot your exact location and takes aim as soon as you even fart, wherever you are hidden but in "sight" like underneath a bush for example.

Element of surprise? WATS DAT, DUUURP?!?! IS THAT LIEK NATUURE OR SOOMTHEENG?

Call of Cthulu does something like that, but a bit more methodically than MGS3. If arms or legs get injured, you get more aim waver and your movement speed slows down. Deep cuts can make you bleed out, but will eventually become smaller cuts requiring fewer medical supplies to close. It may not have the best combat and stealth, but the damage system really works well with them.

the health system in STALKER i wasnt really a fan of....i had no problems with it, but it was a pain when you couldnt get many supplies

Hopefully the health system from Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will never be copied though

ARMA II does this. Red Orchestra did this. Red Orchestra II is going to do this. They are all games that try to be realistic. They are also all (apparently) very good games. Why not pick them up and see how this system works? A lot of people are super hyped for RO II, so I'm sure it will have a giant community, too.

Call of Duty is not realistic. It has realistic graphics, gun names, and is serious. But it's far from realistic, and I see no point to adding something to it to make it slower paced. It's a fast paced, multiplayer mayhem clusterfuck. You should be running around and shooting at people non-stop, pausing only once in a while to catch your breath for a second before running around again.

Who would want to interrupt this to apply bandages? It's like making tires blow out in a Need For Speed or Burnout game, and you have to repair them on the side of the road before continuing.

That's something I've long thought of, and long agreed would be a really nice addition to games. Fine, ganming may be about 'escapism', but personally I'm all for more realism in games (hell, I'd love to see virtual reality games in the style of The Matrix someday). So to me, this sounds like a great idea. And as the sort of gamer who tends to play like I'm actually in the field, trying not to die at all, and using proper realistic tactics and strategy, I hate playing online when everyone thinks run'n'gun is the best way to win, when all it does is get you needlessly killed and lose the game for your team. Something to limit that approach would be a really useful addition to gaming, IMO.

How about instead of a health bar, or regenerative health, there be an actual damage system?

I just recently finished STALKER: Call of Pripyat for the 3rd time when it hit me, why isn't the health system in STALKER ever thought about?

Hmmmmm...... I think I actually like this idea. I prefer at least a bit of realism in FPS games, something that CoD lacks entirely which is precisely why I dislike it so damn much.

That's like saying being able to deep throat if you're a guy is a skill
It's a skill no matter what gender you are. Here's an experiment for you; try to poke a finger down your throat. Chances are, if you tried that, you immediately retched and had to remove the finger(s). Being able to deep throat means you can suppress that compulsion; it takes either a very rare natural knack or a lot of training.

I won't even go into how you need to, uh... 'keep the action going' despite having to keeping your reflexes in check and manage your breathing so you don't suffocate yourself.

Uh, semi-OT; camping done right is a VERY effective defensive strategy. By which I mean positioning yourself tacticly between encounters, and not just sitting in the same corner the entire game.

And, OT; Dwarf Fortress uses a system very similar to that, but it's quite a bit more complex. Overall I'd love to see it in a FPS game, just not as watered down as it is in Fallout or (to a lesser degree for sure) CoC.

So you're saying camping is a skill? That's like saying being able to deep throat if you're a guy is a skill, same thing they both mean you're a ******.
You're exactly the type of person I was talking about in this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.257262-Square-Enixs-Mindjack-is-out-in-a-few-days-seems-to-have-slipped-under-the-radar?page=2#9668422] post. Go back to your father's groin where you belong, you revolting slime.
Ico your similarity to my point of view is almost scary.

For the record, I got Dragon Rising and STALKER, neither of them have US servers (or maybe my problem is dealing with American gamers? Kinda hate to generalize that far) so I'm out of luck on finding a game I like. By the way, I only own a PC, not a fanboy of it though.
