what heroes can you think of, from whatever, that unintentionally come off as slightly evil~?

i would say Ash from Pokemon. he's always trying to defeat team rocket, even when team rocket is doing nothing wrong, is practically defenseless, and sometimes even asking for mercy~

Hmmm I'd have to say Sinestro from the Green Lantern Mythos. Y'know everything he did prior to Blackest Night was in order to stop it.

Mike Harmon from the Kildar series. He is most definitely not a nice person. This review sums it up perfectly.

Aquaman. He cruelly forces fish to do his bidding, in a fashion similar to a fascist dictator.
Don't worry, half the time the fish don't listen and attack Aquaman for attempting to control them.

Which makes Aquaman even more useless

Theres a few examples I could use...so I'll use them.

Alucard from the Hellsing anime...yea, he's Dracula but strangely enough as a good guy.
Vincent Valentine from FF7
Altair from Assassins Creed.
Jackie Estacato from The Darkness.

Strangely enough, I can't bring myself to hate any of these four or in most cases any evil character. Maybe this is related to my anarchistic views but still you have to admit, the bad guys are always better designed than the heroes.

... Well, okay, Batman's evil isn't all that odd.

Light Yagami.

Proving to us all that the only way to have a peaceful world is to kill everyone who is a troublemaker.

Yeah, how'd that work out for him?

I'd like to nominate Marche from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. He finds himself in a dreamworld where all his friends have the one thing they wanted most - his crippled brother has functional legs, his downtrodden friend is the highest authority in all the land, he himself has confidence. He interacts with the denizens of this dreamworld on a daily basis, and finds that they're as deep and real as the people back home, with thoughts and feelings and aspirations of their own.

And what does he do? He tries to get back home, despite having everything he's ever wanted.

He discovers that the only way to do this is to destroy the Macguffins holding the world of Ivalice together. They're literally called The World Thread. Whenever he encounters anyone else from his old home, they beg him to stop, to stay here, where they're happy. People who are aware of The World Thread beg him to not destroy their world.

Does he listen? Fuck no, you're coming home. Doned, better say goodbye to your legs, 'cos you're going back to the wheelchair. Mewt? I know you miss your dead mum and wish your dad wasn't such a depressed loser, but it's time to bid them adieu. Cid? Try not to kill your son out of neglect when we're back home, kay?

Pretty much all MGS playable character's are accused of liking killing, along with the player. Especially MGS2 plays a lot with the main character/player allegory. So... you are the evil character?

Huh? He was quite a non-character in VII expressing little or no personality and does very little plotwise. Do you mean FFVII:DoC? Although even in that I can see he was just gloomy, not evil.

He was villain to begin with. Big time.

While he's called out for destroying everyone else's fantasy world, he eventually calls everyone else out for basically being cowards who want to live in an imaginary fantasy land never facing reality.

Doubtless the message would have come across better if he wasn't the only one without any serious problems in the real world (though Ritz's trauma was so retarded she's basically on the same line). Or if the game didn't seem so unsure whether it wants to outright state that their Ivalice really was not real.
However, if you choose to interpret that way, Marce really did have a case. Not the most heroic case perhaps...

So true, I always thought that myself while playing FFTA. One of the reasons I stopped playing it was because I couldn't agree with what the character was doing (that, and the fact that I spent over 13 hours playing only to overlook the mission briefing for the first mission without a judge, and consequently losing all my best units. Why would you not res' your team AFTER the battle??!)

Soturos and Manardi from Golden Sun.
They were trying to save the world but had a "by any means nessecary" attitude towards it and were the antagonists of the game.
That was one of the things I loved about the Golden Sun series. After getting a bit deeper in to the story it becomes very difficult to decide who was the villain and whether what you are doing was right. That's an example of incredible writing, when in a linear story you find yourself making judgements of the morality of your actions alongside the characters themselves.

Ok, I have a question about Ritz's problem.

Did the american side lose something in translation? Did she really have a condition that made her hair white and that's why she didn't want to go back?

I gotta think somehow the localization team fucked that one up.

I don't see how it'd be anything much different in the original Japanese version. There was even a scene that showed her with white hair in the ending...

I dunno, maybe there's some subtext that is lost on western audience, but to my knowledge paleness and even white hair is generally actually considered beautiful over there, the latter more in fiction obviously.

Perhaps they had a better plottwist for her in the original script but had to dumb it down to make the game more kid friendly.
