Jenny from The Darkness was a shocker to me, and hit me harder than I would have thought.

Alyx in Episode 2. I know, I know, she didn't die, but still. When that Hunter stabbed her, I couldn't even breathe for a second there.

Eli from Episode 2. That just sucked.

The Companion Cube. I'll always regret having not tried to find a way to save it.

Johnson, Halo 3. After having him live through so much (and especially after Contact Harvest) I really couldn't believe it when he died.

Andrew Ryan, BioShock. It's not that I cared at all for him. It's the way he died that stuck with me.

Let's see:

(SPOILERS)

Mookie Carver from Deep Fear: Yeah, I know he was one of the two cantankerous comic relief characters, but the impact is extremely heavy and it doesn't help knowing he was the second youngest character in the cast. The helplessness of his death is also evident, but was down-played a bit seeing how there weren't enough shots to demonstrate how far away John was to Mookie. Still, the dread and sorrow sticks with you after that.

Restiana from El Viento: Mostly based off the simple fact that she wasn't the main antagonist, but killing her was the only way to save the world and that Annet wanted to spare her that got to me.

Queen ZZ Badnasty from Gaiares: I know, she was the villain and she only got say one line in before being vaporized, but I liked her for some reason. I probably preferred seeing her live rather than the corny main characters who seemed so heroic and multi-colored they belonged to a romantic, good vs. evil anime series.

Mikhail Victor from Resident Evil 3 Nemesis: I'll admit that he wasn't a big character, but he ended up being one of the game's more sympathetic characters, especially when you encountered him when he gets out of the train. If anything his last moment was a little too quick, but I still learned to appreciate him.

i was upset about the fate of Tidus in final fantasy 10. i was really hoping he would just die, haha.

the only hero that has ever moved me was the original Optimus Prime. his death gutted me for weeks. he was the pinnacle of the american hero. brave, nearly fearless, selfless, self-sacrificing, honorable, wise, strong, authoritative, kind, caring, compassionate, and was very John Wayne-like. he was my idol for years, until i joined the forces of evil, now megatron is my idol, haha.

I know that saying anything good about the Final Fantasy series is going to get me flamed to a crisp on these boards, bt I almost cried over Aerith in FFVII and I actually DID cry over Tidus at the end of FFX.

The Companion Cube may be a too obvious choice, but I loved it and I was sad to see it go.

Actually I was just watching my friend play the darkness, I didn't even see much else of the game just watched that scene of Jenny dying. It was pretty intense.

If we're doing heroes outside gaming and in television, someone has to mention Dinobot, the eternal Beast Warrior.

Another vote for The Boss in MGS3, even though I saw it coming around Groznjyi (sp?) Grad. The Sorrow and the Fury's final bows were also memorable. Wonder what kind of epic death they'll give 'Liquid Ocelot' in MGS4... and the same may apply for Snake himself!

Aeris... Nah, just kidding. Well... the Arch Mage has moved me with Mass Teleport... and he's a hero... : )

Moved by... moved by... Well, there are two problems that make caring about game characters hard. The first is that they are often extremely shallow and uncomplicated. The other is that voice acting in games are often so incredibly crappy that you're not convinced the character is "real". I was a little moved by some of the storylines in Tsukihime I guess...

But for an actual game (Tsukihime is a book more or less) I'd say I was a little saddened that *spoiler*

Kreya had to die at the end of Kotor 2. Everything was right about that character: complexity, personality, even the voice acting was superb (and I don't say that lightly). I kinda hoped there would be a way to spare her if you had high enough influence : /

Shadow of the Colossus, when your horse bites it going to Titan.

I know it's not dead, but at the time it hit hard.
Ah man, that totally got me too. I genuinely welled up when that happened!

In my opinion, Conker's Bad Fur Day for the N64 has a really sad ending...

Poor, sweet little Heather in "Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines".

Thankfully I had already broken up with her before she had the chance to get killed, so I only found out about the possibility of her unfortunate fate from other players. The minute she tried to give me her college loan money I knew it was wrong to keep her around. I'm glad I never actually had to see her die. That would have been hard to take.

Sam fisher (splinter cell)... and Captain Mitchell (ghost recon)... and Logan Keller (rainbow six)

I'm seeing a pattern. I must like Tom Clancy games. I relate to them because they all handle like normal people instead of a larger-than-life character. Also, Sam's dry wit is hilarious. Ubisoft knew what they were doing when they hired his voice actor.
