Hey, who's this guy...? Oh, it's fucking DANTE. What do you reckon about the re-design?

It looks kinda cool, and I can see the similarities with the old Dante. But still, something about it seems oddly off.

Wow...I'm loving all the "He looks like a girl" responses...um...that doesn't look remotely feminine to me...so...glasses, anyone?

Anywho, I like the new look. Makes sense for young Dante. He wouldn't be demonic yet, hence the lack of white hair, because he hasn't gotten old enough yet. And I love the bruising/cut lip. It would make sense he's not as good at avoiding blows/doesn't have demonic defense yet because of his young age. I like it!

Let go of your retarded values for character models and closure, stories are meant to jump around and not ever character is intended to make people cum themselves over. If you don't like how he looks like a pissed off teenager, then at least accept the fact that at one point dante was a pissed off teenager, and in his prologue he's going to look like a pissed off teenager.
Riiiight. Inflammatory troll is obvious troll.

I'd be happy if Dante looked like a pissed-off teenager. But he looks much, much lamer than that.

I guess gameplay will look like this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYJ2OJmT79o] now.
Rant
If you knew anything about 4chan, you would know i'm not trolling. Trolling is were someone posts a somewhat clever (usually retarded) Intentional ignorant post to attract anger for the lulz.

All i'm doing is stating my opinion for intelligent debate, not to called derogatory insults.

Again as i was saying, whatever dante may look like should not contribute to how the game is going to be. most of the posts in this thread are over how people shun the game over his appearance, this is ridiculous on the level that characters are not always supposed to be likable, many great pieces of literature have unlikable characters.

in some cases (like mass effect) where the story is good you can't just say its just a game.

but in the case of DMC, Ahem...

ITS JUST A GAME!!!

as long as the gameplay is good I wouldn't care if he was an overly sexualized female with guns on her boot- Oh wait.

I dunno, just screwing around with some Photoshopping....but trying to make Neo Dante look like his old self, doesn't work that amazing well either..
I think it might be the hair....[sub]or my lazy recolor...[/sub]

I agree, I gotten more use to it, but..I think its the hair style, I mean...it has a more rugged, down to earth Dante feel, but I think its the hair that is screwing around with it.

But like I said, I'll give him and Capcom/Ninja Theory a chance to impress me with this

Hold on. It's entirely one thing to read about (or watch, in the case of non-interactive visual media) a character, even a protagonist, who doesn't necessarily embody virtues the reader/viewer appreciates.

It's quite another when we're talking about the player character in a game; an entity functioning as an avatar for the gamer. Having a character that is simply unlikeable (not to be confused with an anti-hero, or even the magnificant bastard) certainly will contribute negatively to the game. Take God of War 3... the game would be better with a different protagonist, quite frankly (Kratos' motivations and attitude are laughable at this point).

In this case, we're just talking about a character's appearance. Still, DMC is a game of visual spectacle, in part, and reboot or not, drastically altering the appearance of a character from a long-running franchise is not really a smart idea. Least of all when the result is a design that, as you can see, very few people like.

TL;DR: Player characters are not solely literary devices. Making them look stupid will not endear the game to players.

Anybody who knows absolutely anything about Dante knows his white hair is his most characteristic feature. Why on earth would you remove that?

Seriously? I'm sat here trying to think of a reason and nothing springs to mind. You wouldn't suddenly make Sonic green or make Lara Croft an A-cup.

I'm going to send them an angry email!
You'll get a laugh out of this I'm sure.

Meet Scourge, a parallel universe Sonic formerly known as Anti-Sonic.
Yeah! the comics are pretty good too.

Ugh... I just watched the trailer for that game. I was so excited when I heard there was a new Devil May Cry announced as well.

It looks horrible, they took away all the signature things about the series. It seems there aren't any Gothic elements, Dante seems far too serious and they got rid of the white hair and red jacket, which were his defining traits. This doesn't even look like a Devil May Cry game. I admit the fourth game wasn't as good, but I loved the first and the third. I'm open to giving the game a chance, but so far it just looks like they're trying to alienate their fan-base just to make it more 'western friendly'.

I think their talking about the stereotypical super butch lesbain women who has more testosterone then all the gears of war characters combined. You know those super mega lesbians.

Seriously guys get over it its just one picture. He doesnt look that bad and dante has always had that bit of emo look. Im sure hes just a pissed off teenager and is going to end up kicking some serious ass once you start playing.
I know this is going to sound like i'm being a prick to you (trust me I havn't figured out a way to make this not sound like a prick) but doesn't Dante already start off the trailer kicking demon butt? Heck he has a demon in a head lock while smocking. THAN he puts out the cigarette on the face of the demon. If THAT says he's a little *****, than it makes me wonder what Dante has to do to make people not think he's a little *****, act like Duke Nukem or what?

Here let me end the thread right now.

The real hardcore fans of the series that still play the games and follows it immsenly hate the character desighn and concept so me. even some rgular fans are raging out.

The ones who like it are people who never liked the series and the generic people on this forum who like to play devils advocate even thought they might not agree they just feel the need to debate.

The new games gonna be crap am dening it every chance i get and am gonna go enjoy the real series.

Too skinny, looks like Robert Pattinson, Lacks the style in fighting we are used to from Dante. I'm still interested, but the character's look isn't a point in its favor in my opinion. They could just as well call him James McFagget and you wouldn't see a difference, why call him Dante when he looks nothing like Dante?

>> They could have made him Sparda instead.

The cigarette on the demon's face thing really scored a lot of points for me.

Nice job trying to discredit every opinion that you don't agree with. I've been a fan of Devil May Cry since the first game came out and wowed me, and I really dig the redesign. I guess it's because I tend to be open minded, and I'm not paranoid of "emos or sparkly vampires or girly men ruining my life" or whatever the hell is going on around here.

I swear, you folks are like McCarthy during the red scare with all this fear of emos bullshit.
