Ok, I know I may be just going out on a wim here, but after watching an assassin's creed brotherhood walkthrough, I do believe ubisoft hints at where the next assassin's creed could be.

Out of the Animus, Desmond can talk to the people around him. If you talk to Rebecca once, this is how the conversation goes;
Desmond; it seems you patched the language program
Rebecca; yeah, theres only a few glitches in the Italian. But if you get to some german and french, watch out.

German and French
I truly believe she wouldn't pull those two languages out of her butt. Ubisoft has got to put that in there because maybe that gives a hint where the next assassin's creed game would be? Germany or France?

Just wanted to see what everyone else thought.

It seems unlikely to me. I think they will continue the pattern of choosing exciting, exotic locales. The Crusades, Renaissance Italy. Neither France nor Germany are particularly exotic, and neither really have any timeframe that fits the whole Assassin thing quite as well.

Well, Ezio talks french in one scene, and translating it would have kind of ruined it, so my guess is it's just a plot device.

Maybe, it would be pretty cool to see another Europe based AC. But really, from the first two games they moved the game from the Middle East to Italy, i'm thinking another MASSIVE change in locale. But it would have to be a major power in the last few hundred years...America or another similar English colony perhaps, or even Asia, Russia. There is ALOT of options.

Well, the first game had a big hint that it would be feudal Japan, and that wasn't true, so I don't think Ubisoft plans ahead to the point of alluding to future games.

Well I do remember someone saying that there's a hint of the next Assassin's Creed being set in WWI, so French and German seem pretty fitting.

What about the Franco-Prussian war? That would've been a playground for assassins. That said, it was fairly flat.

I took a peek at the Assassin's Creed Forum:

ENDING SPOILERS:

According to a fellow who produced a source, those symbols which Shaun was talking about before he was cut off were only found in one place. This guy on the forums showed that they boy show up in the main document (I can't remember the name) involved in the French Revolution. So that seems like a big hint as to where the next game may lead.

The french revolution is boring? i dunno, seems like an exciting location for a game.
And Cesar´s rome is bullocks, i hope they don´t go for it... seems to me, that the next game will take place in either Victorian era england, or the french revolution.

I reckon it'll be Mayan/Aztec, primarily because an ex-developer said that's where he thought it would be and also because of all the references to 2012.

Hopefully anyway.

Well see it has to be after the events of AC2 brotherhood, so in the last 500 years.
Why does it have to be after? everyone seems to think that it's a requirement to go forwards, and it will inevitably end up in modern day, with no Animus and playing solely as Desmond. I don't think that will happen, and I hope it doesn't. Setting it solely in modern day isn't going to work thanks to the prevalence of guns, I think they'll keep the formula largely the same. Most of the time is spent in the Animus unravelling mysteries with some time spent outside it, largely at the end of the game.

I don't think it would make sense to do Assassin's Creed III anywhere but in Desmond-time. Which is why I'm not looking forward to it, and hoping that something else turns out to be the setting, because (as I'm glad Yahtzee mentioned as well) Desmond is the most boring, bland character in the otherwise 'great to ok' range of characters in the Assassins Creed games.
