Me and a friend where wondering around Waterstones the otherday and I saw a book that nearly caused me to have a heart attack.

Yes. This is real.

Hitch Hickers Guide to the Galaxy: And Another Thing... is a continuation of the Hitch Hickers trilogy (previously in 5 parts, now in 6). No, Douglas Adams isn't back from the dead. Eoin Colfer, writer of the popular of childrens book saga, Artemis Fowl, has taken up the mantle as writer of the guide. The book was released a couple of weeks ago.

"People have said, quite rightly, that Mostly Harmless is a very bleak book. And it was a bleak book. I would love to finish Hitchhiker on a slightly more upbeat note, so five seems to be a wrong kind of number, six is a better kind of number." Eoin Colfer

Thoughts? I still don't know how to feel about this.

Sounds good, Colfer is a great writer, should be able to do some creative stuff with it.

And another thing is a great title for book six, but other writers continuing a beloved series has never worked out well before.

General consensus is that it's a good book, but it's not Adams.

I will read this. But I don't expect to be happy about it.
I see what you did there. Ghastly.

I will read it colfer is good and I believe Douglas Adams had an intent to go back to it as even he said that the ending was far to depressing.

My predictions a good book but without Adams quirkiness.

I have this in my bag right now! My friend lent it to me, as I was sceptical of it, so he gave it to me, saying it is actually very good. By the way, he enjoys all the others and say it is respectful of the original trilogy, while introcing new concepts.

And I've written a review [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.150662#3542071] of it as well.

For the record, it's pretty good. Not nearly as good as the others in the series, and the ending was a little disappointing, but worth a read nonetheless.

Err... I was under the impression that everyone had died at the end of Mostly Harmless?

If he brings them back it'll probably seem pretty cheap. And besides, Mostly Harmless is very good - it doesn't need to be fixed with another book.

And considering the way things go in the Hitchhiker's books, 5 is a much better number than a well rounded 6.

This sounds like it could be cool. I wonder if they're going to be making more movies of the Hitch hikers guide. The current movie that's out it really cool.

Im getting The Salmon of Doubt in a few weeks, so I might put off reading through it untill I get caught up.
Salmon of Doubt is actually part of the Dirk Gently series, easy to read alongside.

Huh.
Well.
I'm not sure if Colfer was up to the task.
But I guess I'll have to look into it.

For those of you with concerns, I can confirm that this book is WONDERFUL. As you would expect, its not Adams, but its very froody none the less. Someone around here has written a very good review for it, go track it down...
