I could never quite get into the Hitman games because of their very precise way of approaching challanges.
You could just bash the door down and shoot everyone but this will be very fucking difficult, you could try nicking a disguise and sneaking into the enemy base but this relies on the suprisingly smart sentries not falling for your wooden acting or apparant inability to hide firearms or (useful) weapons.
No, the way you were supposed to do it was by stealing the postman outfit that's hidden in the locker and planting a syringe in a boquet of flowers that you're delivering, after that you must take out a chef and put the syringe into a cake where you must take it to your target (where you ditch the syringe and strangle the bastard).
Yes, I am exaggerating the awkwardly complex nature of the missions but this is certainly what it felt like when it came to playing Hitman 2 for the first time and Blood Money didn't seem to do much to improve this.
I very much agree, some of the paths they expect you to take are very fiddly. Take the example of the Mafia boss you have to kill (Which I'm assuming is one of the missions you refer to). I like how they did the level and how the opportunities are planned in, but I just nab a disguise, and shoot/ strangle the boss either from under his balcony or by going round the side and up the stairs. Then, just shoot anyone with a gun. Bish bash bosh, takes about three minutes if you know the route.
What I find with most stealth games is that they try to make you follow a difficult route in return for some bonus like a particular weapon; This requires intelligent gameplay on your behalf, but then this is nearly always cancelled by very dumb AI, with enemies that can apparently see through walls, and can always tell exactly which shadow you happen to be hiding in. Imagine; you've just spent the last half an hour sneaking through hordes of suspicious guards, but someone hears the rustle of your socks and BAM, you've got holes in your chest. Playing a game is fun; Endlessly wandering through a corridor, in the hope of being lucky or that you don't run into a glitch in the game, is not.
Ah, I've ridden off on my pet steed Tangent here. Hitman Contracts didn't have as good a story, but I think the gameplay was slightly better, as the locations and the weapons are more diverse. Hooray, my wall of text is slightly justified!
