Huh, I suppose all of this does bring attention to the issue, but the danger always is that people end up paying more attention to the stunts than the issue.

what use would they be then? imagine if Lenin spent his time before 1917 dancing in front of the Winter Palace? he would be arrested, the revolution would end and Russia would stay autocratic.
Thank you... very true, I mean.. why purposefully open yourself to unfair treatment.. Hell... considering the stupid Gov half the members of Anon would be in Gitmo if they came forward... Anyone remember when you had to work to earn the title "terrorist"
exactly. damn shame not many americans realize any of that, ehhh stupid inbred countrymen. >_<

Interesting indeed...
Luckily I don't roam the internet too much except my normal sites.
I'll wait for an update.

Also, I really wish they'd start mandating images posting around here. The people who post images as a reaction to every fucking thing for no good damn reason are getting way out of hand. This isn't 4chan.
If it bugs you, report them. Mods will react if the image is the bulk of the content in their post.

Well Megaupload got shot down? And what happened? Anonymous is now going on a fucking rampage.

Oh wait. That is not all! Not only did they shut down the website of Department of Justice Buuuut...

Pretty much every company that makes movies, TV, or music, along with the entirety of the federal government, is in Anonymous' crosshairs.

Jesus christ the internet is at war. What with SOPA and this shit. And we are gonna be caught in the middle.
You know I'm not really worried. Mostly because of this:

Anonymous is mad the government shut down a site that pretty much does NOTHING ELSE but stream copyrighted material? I will continue saying what I have always said: They are teenagers. Megaupload was lucky it lasted so long, and NOBODY should be surprised it's been shut down.

And of course, Anonymous "shuts down" a government website... for what? A day? *gasp* TWO DAYS?! Who cares? Even for the Dept. of Justice this is an annoyance at the very worst.
I think it's more about them not having any right to do so since Megaupload wasn't putting said illegal files up. (And not all files were illegal, some businesses used them to transfer files easier) Hell they're going after everyone involved with megaupload even the graphic designer. And they needed SOPA for something? They're already going after people outside the country! When they could shut down a site like that? Well to control the internet of course!THat's the only reason and that's not okay.

For once i actually support Anonymous considering i lost one of my backups due to the "Justice" department taking down megaupload, now while i do have other backups (2 others to be exact + original) i'm still pissed.

As for the updates on the first site i personally love this one;
Danzu: STOP EVERYTHING, who are we DoSing right now?
Until the digital battle is over though i shall be retreating to the inside of my protective bubble.

Just saw that Anonymous shut down CBS.com and Universal Music Group's website and now are threatening to shut down XBox Live. The more I read about Anonymous, the less I respect them since they now appear to be a bunch of hackers having "hissy" fits instead of activists trying to start a revolution.

The website is just a bunch of code. If Anonymous had really shut down the DoJ, there'd be a pretty big crisis across the country, seeing as any high level judicial stuff wouldn't be able to function what with most legal information being digital now. All Anonymous is doing is effectively putting grafitti on the DoJ's proverbial car. It's an annoyance, not a threat.[/quote]

At least delinquent car vandals don't make big pretentious speeches in which they brag about their unwarranted self-importance. Anonymous's strategy seems to be "inconvenience the webzones of vague authorities as much as possible (which is to say, not very much), and hope that something happens."

Are they doing anything other than DDoSing, or are they actually doing anything that will actually require cleaning up? It'll be interesting to see if they actually manage to do lasting damage to any of those sites.
No, just a DDoS.

I think the publicity and adherence to their moral views has "weakened" them.

If this had occured, say, 2 or 3 years, ago, there really would be a "war" going on.

EDIT: or as maninahat puts it

The problem with vigilantes is that they pick and choose. If it suits my purposes or I disagree, it's my problem. Otherwise, you're on your own. If Anon operated like Rorschach (No compromise, even in the face of Armageddon.) then there wouldn't be an issue. Shit, if law enforcement agencies operated like that there'd be no need for vigilantes.

So they shut down the website? They didn't actually compromise the Departments data? Soft.

I honestly wonder about what kind of positive things these guys could do if they put their minds to it.
