I actually think it does bounds for the gameplay. Knocking off a limb keep the killing creative when you have the time, and isn't very noticeable when you're being swarmed and need to kill in rapid succession. The machete is a bit gory, but what would you expect? Zombies aren't going to die of blood loss from a scrape, and it's not exactly a blunt object. The only time I really notice the overactive gore is while using the guitar because it doesn't feel fitting to the weapon. Then again, dented heads might be worse...

Is it disturbing that one of my favorite things of all time was shooting a monk in Blood and watching him run around in flames before he explodes and his gory skeleton collapses to the floor, still firing his gun?

Well I enjoyed the violence, but you should be able to change the gore to Australian levels, just do the reverse of what they do to get gore on. There are a lot of places explaining how already, and it's quite simple. :)

The coolest part is shooting the top of a zombie's head off and seeing part of his brain inside the skull

I only wish the frying pan got zombie-face-shaped dents on it ):

I see where you're going my friend.

OT: The only point is getting more viewers for the media topic: L4D2, a tad too violent? Also to make us zombie-hating sadists. Justin Case. If you know what I mean. :D

ZOMG!!!! LEFT 4 DEAD 2 IS VIOLENT, WHAT IS THE WORLD COMEING TOO!!!!!
And the spelling too. And the use of more than one exclamation mark. Not cool.

The point being made is relevant; at what point does violence and gore become too real. Does it ever?

I can't say the demo bothered me, but my girlfriend said it made her uncomfortable as everything seems so real. I can't wait for the real thing. They've done brilliantly with the marketing imho.

I've always fancied myself as a zombie killer. Apart from my cowardice, obviously.
"Cool" is up to individual to decide, for my part I am sorry that no one appreciated my regrettable attempt at humor. As for the spelling I assume you refering to "zomg" I must then ask, what does "imho" mean?

The OT never asked the question "at what point does violence and gore become too real"

We were merely asked what we thought of the violence in Left 4 Dead 2? We know that Australia refused it classification, and while I do not agree with their rating system I must admit they have a point.

Often as in the case of Left 4 Dead 2 the violence no longer adds anything and in fact detracts from the experience in significant ways. The benchmark for this is when people (such as your significant other) can no longer watch or participate in the game.
Good points, well made. I use "cool" too often. It's not cool.

If the violence is being talked about more than the gameplay then the experience of the game is tainted. I don't find it to be too much, but it's right on the cusp.
