Digital Foundry have taken a look at the game. There's a report on the PC version coming later.

They describe the game itself as "superb", but are extremely harsh on the console versions, which run at a very choppy framerate with uneven frame times. The XBO version runs better than PS4.

They recommend getting the game on PC, instead, where it apparently runs very well. (Which is backed up by reports on Steam, for the most part.)

On the topic of the 5 second freezes when saving, my personal guess is that it's a byproduct of the open world design. The game has a single "level". It's likely saving the state of every entity in the entire game world, and I have a suspicion that such a thing is impossible to "fix" with patches.

However from what I saw, I think Jim Sterling putting a 1/10 score is a little bit harsh...
Either the game went out of its way to bug out on Jim Sterling, or the man is being melodramatic. Same goes for DSP calling it the "worst game I have ever played". Console problems aside, pretty much all the game footage shows a game which demonstrates basic competency at being an FPS game. It's not a broken train wreck of a game in any meaningful sense. It just has problems that are significantly worse on console.

I feel like it's goint to end up like STALKER - a great game, rough on the edges, loved by 'hardcore' gamers and hated by the casual crowd.

come on my friend. Stalker is one of the greatest game of all time and this game always looks terrible and most generic game on earth from start.

I can't agree nor disagree with you since i didn't play the new Homefront. From the conceptual point of view, it does sound interesting.
When it comes to STALKER, it was a buggy mess as well. The beginning of the game was awful (I was very pissed at it and I was very close to uninstalling it), but it got better(much BETTER) over time. You really had to sink into it - that's something that most casual players simply cannot do.

I am playing it now and well the gun system is kind of neat. The game is buggy to all heck. It locks up for a few seconds anytime the game saves. Other then that, it feels really generic. Like Apart from the way you can customize your wepons on the fly, I can't think of one notable system, mission, level or um game thing.

Which platform? Some people on Steam are describing "split second" save pauses, while others describe it taking seconds. And on consoles, it apparently takes 5-10 seconds.

PS4. Unupdated. It's about 3 or so seconds. It always happens, but it jumps right back after the lockup. It hasn't crashed or got worse.

I hope to catch the shops after work to pick it up today, it looks like something I will enjoy and none of the issues I have seen whilst browsing are anything new or ultimately game breaking. I could make glitch videos or stupid AI montages for lots of great games from the past.

I don't expect it to be anywhere near my favourite game ever, but I like to play a bit of everything.

I hope to, since I enjoyed the first game despite its flaws, but money management might be an issue. I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't slightly worried by the deluge of negative reviews, but they are fairly inconsistent in certain areas: one review says the visual design is bland and boring, another says the visual design is fantastic for atmosphere and world building. Still, if they managed to fix the greatest problem I had with the original Homefront - that despite promising asymmetrical warfare desperation, it was just a linear succession of firefights in a very short campaign - I'm sure I will enjoy The Revolution.

Also: WOLVERINES!

Well, I finally got the opportunity to buy it from Steam today, and 3-4 days from now, it will have finished downloading on my crappy internet connection.

With the global release, the developers have acknowledged the erratic performance issues, and have pledged to patch the game.

The patching of this game could go two ways: The Assassin's Creed: Unity way, or the Witcher 3 way. I sincerely hope it's the latter, because among the reviews on Steam, which has about 50/50 negative vs positive currently, the common theme is "performance needs to be better". There's no real significant backlash against the game's general design outside of people looking for attention. There's just a lot of people who are unable to enjoy the game because it's running extremely poorly on consoles or erratically on PC.

That's encouraging at least, I just hope that the developer's stubborn will to get this game out in the first place is a sign they are prepared to continue supporting it in the long-run.

They were not Homefront quality of bad thats why. i mean this game has insane amount of bugs and its unfinished and rushed product. it was in development hell when crytek announced, gone bankrupt, sold free radical studio to deep silver who named its dambster studio. development continue.

ever since they reveal it looks like every other generic shooter but it turn out even worse because the gameplay mechanics and shooting are pretty bad. Its currently 55 on metacritic.

Dark Side of Gaming have reported that Homefront 2 PC has a threading bug that causes one of the CPU cores to run at 100%, starving the GPU and affecting overall performance. The current workaround is to disable and re-enable CPU affinity with Task Manager, which is a clunky trick some games have needed in the past.

What disappointed me about Homefront Revolution was it lacked the shock and horror that Homefront had. This game felt more generic revolution vs the desperate resistance fighter force that get met with ten times the brutality. Wonder why Revolution went in that direction...

Well I managed to get about 17 hours out of it before shit happened. I was actually liking it for the most part but I fired it up in my Xbone and got treated to an infinite load screen. Quick google search revealed I am not the only one. MP loads up no problem but the SP just loads forever.

If its really cheap and had some redeeming aspects. Then maybe a year later I'll give it a try.

But from what I'm hearing and seeing isn't too good. Also passed on the original since I was aware it was the same developer that made Frontlines Fuel of War.

I got my copy for the PS4 on the weekend and was playing it instead of doing my essays for this week: really enjoying it! Superb atmosphere and the open-world mechanics make hit and run tactics viable, while the KPA feel tough enough to force you to run without being bullet sponges. I've encountered a few minor glitches, including one where my flashlight just stopped working for no reason, but nothing game breaking, so I am satisfied.

This is a notorious bug. It has apparently been fixed on PS4, but PC and XBO are still affected because the 1.3 patch hasn't been released for those platforms yet. (To my annoyance.)

The 1.3 PS4 changelog is:

- Fixed an issue with the in-game HUD fader which could leave the player on a black screen when starting the game.
- Fixed an issue where the game could enter a perpetual loading state when trying to load a save game from section 4 onwards.
- Fixed a memory leak issue related to Entity IDs on version 1.00 of the game.
- Fixed a high frequency engine crash relating to the physics system and saves created on version 1.00 of the game.
- Fixed a high frequency shadow rendering crash bug relating to threading.
- Fixed an issue with the weather manager not being able to correctly read saves created with version 1.00 of the game.
- Fixed an issues with easter egg controls which could leave them unresponsive.

Not a fan? It's been a long time since I played that game, but I remember good things.

That's encouraging. I have heard really good things about the atmosphere and sense of desperation. Even the reviews that are really harsh on the technical shortcomings tend to applaud the rich atmosphere. (Which is supposedly helped by the weather and lighting system.) It's just a shame that PS4 owners are left with the short end of the framerate stick currently.

While I do see there were redeeming aspects of the original, I rather have invested my time and money elsewhere. The last gen library offered much more quality titles by the time Homefront released in 2011. And the original was the subject of a very overhyped following.

As for this new game. I happen to come across a YouTube reviewer that exposed just how badly designed Revolution is. So I certainly will be passing on this new game.
