Can I, like, be put on record for saying I knew you were joking and don't really care about being insulted?

Pretty sure Onyx will feel more or less the same.

Having a credit card, on my part, is still not worth it. I hope everyone that benefited from this hack has diarrhea for a fucking month.

How did you miss such blatant sarcasm? Or am I missing your blatant sarcasm?
Because it wasn't blatant, nor was it unheard of. Plenty of people irrationally place all of the blame on Sony. It's actually more rare to find someone who agrees it's not their fault. While it could've been (was) sarcasm, nothing about it was obvious, and the italicized "everyone" was not even the proper word to stress for sarcasm (he should've italicized "Sony" or "Sony's fault").

Doubtful that they'll check anyone. Its hard to check hackers on this level. The easiest way to track them will be by tracking their IP addresses, but smart hackers will have changed their IP addresses so they can't be tracked.
Most hackers will also have not made any recent, large, internet transactions that will look suspicious.

See. This is what the FBI should be doing, not chasing people who look at porn! XD

Finally someone got their head out of their ass and acted appropriately for once.

Sony "online game server" huh. Way to make yourselves seem with it, FBI.
To be fair to the man, he's not a computer analyst or lab tech: he's an investigative Special Agent in the FBI. His job is not to 'know the lingo'. His job is to piece together evidence, obtained in any number of sources and then to hopefully begin to obtain and question suspects. The FBI's computer crime experts will determine what was done. Although his prepared statement could use polish :p

On a related note, I would hate to be a member of Sony's IT/LAN/WAN Security team right now: cos the first load of heads on pikes are probably coming from that department.

I've noticed the mods on here are overly stupid about handing out probations and the like to members for the most silly of things. I could instantly tell your comment was in jest, and laughed at it. In no way worthy of a 30 day probation.

Hell. I've seen Mods... and people such as that Matt fellow from LRR say far worse things. But do they get put on probation? No. I wonder why.

Gotta love forums with mod power abuse.
Out of topic, but let me just say that if you feel that whatever mod punishment you receive is inappropriate, that you didn't deserve it, you're welcome to appeal the decision (I believe you do receive a link to that with your warning/probation/suspension notice). If you feel a moderator is abusing their power you can PM the Community Manager (currently Spinwhiz) over your concerns.

I guarantee that, so long as you proceed in an educated manner, your case will be reviewed and/or your concerns looked into.

I will, however, also request that you keep such issues away from the actual forums, especially when it comes to insulting moderators, as that is against the rules.

Thank you for your cooperation.

I have sent one, but it does raise some questions about how moderations work.

Despite your randomly capitalized words I failed to see your point. I work for the government and I will enlighten you as to how all government run organizations work. The people with little to no power know way more than they should and probably know and will only work for the government for 2 years max before they leave for something better. The people who have power aka have been there more than 2 years only stayed because they are incompetent.

So, when these incompetent morons look into Anonymous they will see they are harmless and make a stink whenever you bloody mention them.

I'm confused with your logic now... I worked for the government for two years before I left and, as you said, I was more competent than my superiors..... But I hate Annon as well....

I JUST DON'T... I CAN'T.... AM I COMPETENT OR NOT?!?!?!!?

In the end all hackers need to stop. One way or another.
Haha thats a great pic. And yea I think two years is the standard servitude people can stand before anyone with talent or ambition runs away from the government.

I'm a pretty shitty writer so my thesis was supposed to be anonymous probably didn't do this because most of those idiots think ddosing is "hacking". Anyway your brain doesn't have to be full of fuck because I think we agree on both points. I honestly don't know tho :I

Alleged? Where the hell have they been, Sony has all but posted pictures of how the hackers managed to smear digital feces on the firmware of the servers.

Woodsey said:
Everyone knows its all Sony's fault! Did you know, for example, that their servers are protected by nothing more than a mouse trap, some lubed-up floor tiles, and a copy of Justin Bieber's 'Baby' on repeat?!
Oh man, that's just....that's beautiful dude. Three posts in and you've already won the thread.

Just noticed that. Sorry, I just had a laugh at your expense. I thought the sarcasm was clear...apparently not.

I'm reminded of a joke.

The US President takes the CIA, the FBI, and the Police to the woods. He releases three rabbits in three different sections, and tells them to find their respective rabbit.

The CIA takes its time, collecting evidence, interviewing foxes, stuff like that. At the end of the day they come back to the President and say 'The rabbit doesn't exist'.

The FBI firebomb their part of the forest, and after spending the day sifting through the remains they bring the rabbits partial, charred corpse to the President.

The Police go in, and come out a couple of hours later with a bear, that has a black eye and is yelling 'Okay! Okay! I'm a rabbit! I'm a rabbit!'

... what I'm saying is, I hope they get caught. Not because I like Sony, but because I have friends with PS3s and I would not like anyone to have their personal data.
You made my day with that joke. Too bad I was in a library when it made me start laughing.

OT: I've been waiting for the feds to get involved: big hack in this political environment; I'm surprised it took this long. The thought that all of those these people can have their identities stolen straight up makes me kind of ill.

I actually kind of wished we'd be seeing internet vigilante justice rather than official style.

After all, I'd rather see these particular people be on the receiving end of revenge fueled by rage rather than a paycheck (and because of the delicious irony of their punishment).
yeah, this would be kind of a great positive PR move if Anonymous went after them! show us they're the "white hat" hackers they seem to claim to be.

I'm guessing that whoever pulled this off is far out of Anon's league. I mean, a huge criminal attack on a well-secured server to steal lots of information, this isn't some group of garage script-kids who got lucky, I'd bet my new credit card that this is probably part of a large overseas criminal organization.

Oh goody the FBI and homeland security are on the case. So what happens when the hackers weren't from the USA? I hear the Chinese have some pretty good hackers as do all those little countries formerly of the USSR. If it's the later I guess Interpol gets on board but if it's the Chinese or some Middle East country I'm thinking your still SOL.

I think this is one Government action against hackers that Anonymous won't be objecting to. In fact, I could totally see them teaming up. If Anon found the place where they were selling the info, it wouldn't take long for them to find a way to utterly destroy the site, and get the info to the feds. In fact, I'd be surprised if they weren't discussing it right now.
Why am i imagining that as a program?
"Ones a group of nerds" *Sterotypical nerds, Simpsons style*
"Ones a group of cops" *Pans to bad ass cops*
And together they must catch the crooks *Shows Cops with guns and Nerds swinging their mouse and keyboards like nunchucks*
Cop guys: "Its time to hack us some hackers"
Nerds and Cops in- Detectives and Dragons...

Id SO watch that
Why am I imagining that as a buddy-cop comedy?

"Together, they'll embark on a journey through cyperspace," *shows typical vectory cyperspace representation*
"face dangerous hackers,"
Enemy Hacker:"Hey dood, I'm from mongolia, I've got a lot of money, and I just need your password, credit card info, and personal data to give you all this money!"
Cop: "Hmm... Well, you sound a bit suspicious, but who could doubt someone from Mongolia?"
Friendly hacker: "NO DON'T DO IT!"
"And learn the true meaning... of friendship."
Hacker:"Here's where they live. Sic 'em."
