There was never a reason to make TES into an MMO. Major single player games should stay single player to me.
I forgot. nobody would buy a non-FPP Elder Scrolls.Kaleion said:While trading on the name is not that bad an idea, it will make it fail since the reason people wanted an Elder Scrolls MMO was because they wanted an MMO with the mechanics and features of the Elder Scrolls games, sure the lore is good [small](I assume)[/small] but if the game is nothing like what people expect from it then it will most likely fail.Zachary Amaranth said:Trading on a major name. Not exactly the worst idea in the world, but I bet it'll fail.Kaleion said:Well since the last Elder Scrolls game I played was Daggerfall I wasn't really exited, but this does leave me wondering, What is the point of making an MMO out of it, if it is nothing like it?
This is actually pretty stupid.
Well I assume, I could always be wrong.
Zenimax Online is developing the MMO while Bethesda works on other projects, presumably Skyrim DLC at this point. That being said, although I am optimistic about the potential of the MMO, I hope this doesn't give Bethesda a reason to stop making fantastic single-player Elder Scrolls games.Robert Ewing said:I made the exact same face someone would make if they saw their dog die when this shit was announced.
Why even bother putting it into an MMO? It will just join the ranks of incredibly bland, incredibly similar and incredibly boring MMO legions, and thus destroy the franchise to some degree because of how embarrassing this whole thing is.
Keep the elder scrolls single player! That's what it's good at! And when I say good, I mean REALLY GOOD. When haven't Bethesda made a good game recently!? Most peoples only complaint with them is bugs. But news flash, they get fixed!
Don't do the MMO Bethesda, just don't.
for arguments sake, what about MMO's that are still on the market that are as old, or older then WoW? are they 'WoW clones?'Dendio said:All MMO's are WoW with their own coat of franchise paint.
That's why I've learned to mute trailers. The audio can build artificial hype. If it does look good muted, I'll watch it a second time to see if there was anything in the audio to make it even cooler.Fappy said:That was a pretty lackluster teaser/. I got semi-excited when the theme started playing but then it kind of just petered off.Jynthor said:Extremely boring and generic trailer, but here you go.
MMO's predate wow, but WoW has come to define the genre. The WoW infrastructure seems to be at the heart of any MMO. At the end of the day you grind gear via pve or pvp and level alts.Lunar Templar said:for arguments sake, what about MMO's that are still on the market that are as old, or older then WoW? are they 'WoW clones?'Dendio said:All MMO's are WoW with their own coat of franchise paint.

Now though? Interest level: 0.
I'm not defending what they are doing, but think of it this way. Why is WoW still so popular? It is easy to run. hotkey based combat is much easier to run than real time with raids full of people. Try Vindictus. It has real time combat, but the problem is that it is much harder to run. MMOs are expensive to make, and if you can get 50% of computer users running the game, then that is a possible 50% of people in your market to sell to. if only 10% can run, yu just cut 40% of people from ever buying your game.Manoose47 said:thisGiantRaven said:At first I was intrigued because I was curious about the idea of making a First-person, real-time combat game into an MMO.

only 0 is generous, come on Zenimax/bethesda whoever the fuck.
you finally hammer down some quality gameplay with skyrim, and then completely ignore it for your mmo?
wtf?
do something different! warcraft is cooldowns and quick turn based, so is ToR, so Everquest,Ddo, Allods, LoTRO... etc. Do your own thing for fuck sake. real time combat was such an obvious step, its been done in mmo but NOT in a triple AAA super high profile game.
Son i am disappoint.
like the old phrase goes, Innovate, don't emulate!
kinda figured you'd say that, and it's sadly true.Dendio said:MMO's predate wow, but WoW has come to define the genre. The WoW infrastructure seems to be at the heart of any MMO. Its a very successful formula and nobody wants to stray too far away from it.
The future seems to be all about playing WoW in your favorite franchise universe.
