BS, they're called instances, f*cking runescape was able to do it back in 2006.

OT: Considering I never cared about MMO's to begin with, and that I like to play elder scrolls games as a lone wanderer, I never cared about this game to begin with. Now I just have confirmation that it's going to flop as well.

Anyone in this just to see what the rest of Tamriel looks like, rather than the game its self?
Just me? Okay.

That Kotaku article quoted Zenimax wrong.

Zenimax actually said "player housing as people want is impossible to do"

by that they mean, massive ever growing cities made of player houses that exist in the normal game-world, because as ultima online shows they eventually consume the entire gameworld.

Weren't some internet lurkers building a multiplayer mod for Skyrim? I think that would probably be a lot more populair, AND cost effective. How about you look into improving/implementing it and selling it as DLC, guys? Might just make you rich.

Unlike building this MMO. That just makes you look STUPID.

Oh yeah, that would indeed be a problem. I stand corrected.

Bethesda isn't making the MMO, Zenimax online is.

Anyone else hope this flops so incredibly hard they will never consider making an Elder Scrolls MMO ever again, focussing purely on the main series instead? :)
Bethesda isnt making the MMO..... they have taken no time, money, or people off the main series work teams

It's not feasible owning a house in an MMO? I know for sure LotRO has allowed player owned houses for years.

Boy, the team who are making this clearly looked at the market and tried to pull ideas from games that aren't just WoW. Derp derp.
Actually they said player housing as people want it to work isn't feasible.

-How it works, bunch of instanced areas that are copies of each other with people own homes in the instanced areas
-How people want it to work, giant in-game cities that are ever expanding and growing due to player housing all in the normal world.
So they decide to go with the option that includes it not at all?

Before what players want is implemented at all, we'd almost need a standalone game that has such a mechanic.
That gives me an idea, Animal Crossing Online. That is pretty much all you do in those games, so they could focus all their resources on that single mechanic.

OT: I really wasn't interested in this before, but I can't follow their logic here. Who would abandon WoW to play a game exactly like WoW, but not as polished, and we all know it won't be polished it all. MMO's coming out with little content and lots of bugs and clunky gameplay is the standard, and I'm sure it will only be compounded since the bugs part is standard in any Bethesda game.

1. THE GAME ISN'T MADE BY BETHESDA, seriously how do so many people get that wrong?

2. Why would you expect it to have the bug level of a Bethesda game WHEN ITS NOT MADE BY BETHESDA.

3. the gameplay mechanics are copied from GUILD WARS 2, not WoW, read the GameInformer Article.

I honestly can't say I'm too surprised.

Pretty much every MMO nowadays offers nothing new and exciting.

Also, I laugh at their comment 'housing is too hard in an MMO.'

LOTRO nailed it, I don't see why they can't.

No my friend, its YOU who doesn't know who you're are talking to.

I practically live on the Bethesda lore forums.

there is no lore violation with the three factions.

I was never intrigued to begin with. MMO's have never appealed to me and I really didn't think this would be any different from the others.

Honestly, if you're an MMO fan this will probably appeal to you but if you're just an Elder Scrolls fan, maybe just stick with Skyrim.

Apparently they don't know what RuneScape is. All you have to do is get preset houses you can upgrade and have the houses go to a "different realm" where there are no other people.

Ok to put this BS to rest, ZENIMAX DID NOT SAY PLAYER HOUSING WAS IMPOSSIBLE

Zenimax said player housing as people want it, i.e. cities made of player housing in the normal game world that continuously grow, are impossible.

Ultima Online shows that the end result will be that player housing takes over all available land in the game world.

They never said player housing in general was impossible.

Doesn't make it any less stupid, though.

Ugh.

I'm a huge TES fan. Once I heard it was going MMO I died a little inside, and stopped caring.

But after confirming the fact that it will just be a WoW rip off and seeing the screenshots that look like a hybrid between WoW and STOR?

I'm angry. I'm just sick of developers trying to milk as much cash as possible out of everything that grows. I am starting to really dislike this trend of amazing single player games jumping into MMORPG territory. If it happens to Fallout - I swear to God, I'll scream.

Meh, I'll get over it. I sure as hell won't play it though. Which is strange. If you would have told me the next TES game after Skyrim would be one I avoid I would have laughed at you.

edit: And I'm sick and tired of this lack of passion. I can't believe Bethesda are fine with handing development of their baby to Zenimax and letting turn it into an MMO. I'm worried the DNA of TES will be screwed. If I were Todd Howard I wouldn't let anyone get within 100 feet of TES.
