don't worry, her tv show got dropped so she needs to do something to stay in the limelight!
There is a great deal of truth in what you said. It's a shame because a lot of what Jo Frost says later in the article makes a lot of sense, but like any amateur, she dresses up her ignorance in non-established facts. If I asked everyone here if they would brutally murder a poor innocent puppy or put a vicious cat out of it's misery after it had tried to kill a baby I could hardly draw the conclusion that gamers are all dog lovers from the results!!

Parental responsibility, open discussion, child responsibility and balance in activities are all good valid points that she makes, but her "research" doesn't bear up against ACTUAL research. Male OR female, playing computer games raises adrenalin levels due to the high impact rush of most games. It does have an effect on desensitising towards violence, about the same as watching the news or a violent program, it's just kids spend more time playing computer games than watching the news! What has ALSO been proven is that playing computer games affects decision making processes, often training the person to make quicker decisions based on complex data in a shorter time than their untrained equivalents. It improves reflexes and cognitive abilities, but all these things in measures. You aren't going to become Arnie by drinking protein shakes, just as you aren't going to be Braniac by playing CoD for 3 months straight. They impact on existing levels, that's all and there is an optimal exposure beyond which any benefit or detriment is minimal and I don't think it's that much from what I read? Like an hour a day or something?

As for the riots, they spread across England, involved thousands from a variety of backgrounds and areas and I don't think the common thread is ownership of an X-Box or PS3...

"Research shows that within 15 minutes of playing one of these games young men become highly aggressive and lack empathy in normal situations"

Maybe if you play Deadliest Warrior or watch the show.... >_>

This bullshit doesn't fly when pointed at other mediums. How many films have depicted rioting and murder? How many times have the been blamed, and calls for them to be banned heard across the country? None. Fuck you, Media. Come back when you've decided to stop resisting the unstoppable.

Weird, only that one section of the article even talks about games and its completely assbackwards. Everyone knows that games don't award points anymore.

This research is clearly bullshit. 15 minutes of anything, except maybe hypnosis, isn't going to dramatically alter someone's personality. Any psychologist can tell you that. I don't even know why someone would write that. Do they really think people are going to take that at face value? Does England just immediately accept anything that is printed in the newspaper? I don't think so.

...Fuck it. I'm out. Moving to a new planet.

Maybe Titan. Anyone want in on my rocket ship to Titan?
Nope, because:

1. Its nitrogen atmosphere is decidedly less healthy to breathe than Earth's oxygen one.

2. It's fucking cold (-179 C or -290 F).

3. There's no emergency services there.

Like it or not, good ol' Earth's your best bet. I suggest you make the best of the situation.

Back on-topic, this is just one more example of people having an irrational hatred for something they don't understand. It's certainly not the first time video games have been the scapegoat for society's ills and it sure as hell won't be the last. Quite honestly, I've heard this sort of thing so often that I just can't get worked up about it anymore.

Desensitization has led me to a more rational approach to things but despite that I'm still a goody two shoes at heart. Hypothetically if sacrificing the few for the many is the best option I'd still try to find an alternative.

I've got an idea people. Instead of sitting on forums crying about this why don't we just ignore it? Every few weeks some obscure famous person comes out and blames video games on violence (Hitler must of loved his video games)and by now i'm surprised we haven't started completely ignoring them.
It's rather fun to complain about things and criticize stupids.

I can't stand this woman. Even watching her tv show she does shit that any competant parent already does. She acts like she's gods gift to parenting. Oh if they're bad sit them somewhere for a set amount of time? You mean a time out? That thing parents have had since the dawn of time. WELL FUCK ME. YOU CAN OUTWIT CHILDREN. HERE'S A PARADE.

These people know nothing about games, I spend years strangling people with barbed wire on manhunt (Or circumcising them if you keep the button held long enough)
Uh...I don't think that word means what you think it means.

Perhaps decapitation? asphyxiation?
There was definitely a kill in the second game where you got them between the legs with barbed wire, not sure about the first one, either way it seems that I've forgotten to type the 2 on the end of manhunt. I'll edit that right away.

So now that videogames are causing the youth of today to go on rampant violent killing sprees, does that mean that rock n roll and comic books are now safe for consumption?

What games have they been playing?

Because I have yet to play a game that's photorealistic.
Haven't you played Doom 3?

Everyone raved about how photo-realistic that game was, and how it would only ever run on a hypothetical future-computer from space.

Jo Frost does have it in for "violent" video games though. I think the way she goes on about them though is wrong because she tests games that a clearly meant to be played by kids older than the ones tested in the University of Where Ever.

And if you're gonna blame "Horrific Videogames" then why don't you blame every other medium of entertainment whilst you're at it. OR face up to the fact that some people are born and/or raised douchebags and they'll use every excuse to make it seem like they were wronged by something when they're out causing trouble.

Yeah.
Surely there was no riots, murder or war before video games.

If only we could go back to the peaceful and happy days of the Mongol Hordes or the Vikings.

Shit, I forgot about that.

I love how realistic that game was, what with the corners on spheres and how, if I squint hard enough, the human characters looked almost like real people.

Its a lot faster to just make a list of things that don't annoy you.

Mine is mostly Dr Who episodes and Father Ted
