"Research shows that within 15 minutes of playing one of these games young men become highly aggressive and lack empathy in normal situations."

Following that logic i should be a mass murderer right now. There must be something wrong with me because the only things that i have hurt in the last 5 years were mosquitos.

What games have they been playing?

Because I have yet to play a game that's photorealistic.
I have also yet to see or play a game that's about rioting in the streets of... well anywhere.

"These horrific games where points are given for burning, shooting and killing, where the graphics are so realistic you believe that they?re real scenes of carnage, where those who play fantasise they have the power of life and death, are so brutal they completely desensitise anyone taking part."

The desensitization part... there might be something to that. I think media, including video games, is bombarding us with negative information all the time so that we don't get shocked anymore when things like the riots happen. And without being shocked, there's little incentive to change.
I play violent video games and I was genuinly shocked. Mind you, my first thought going though my head was "will Tottenham Hotspurs first game be rescedualed."

Maybe Titan. Anyone want in on my rocket ship to Titan?
Titan's a moon. If moons were a choice, then yes Titan sounds good.

Someone should give the stupid cow the phone number for Jack Thompson. Its bad enough that she prattles on about how to raise kids when she has none of her own, and this doesn't help her credibility.

Anyone that's seen Supernanny will know not to take this seriously. In short, the woman is really, really annoying. If she somehow has her way she'll probably just make all the game developers sit on the naughty step or something.

*sign* And I had just finished putting my list away too. Oh well, back out it goes.

*adds Super Nanny to List of things that piss me off*
Its a lot faster to just make a list of things that don't annoy you.

Mine is mostly Dr Who episodes and Father Ted
Huh...I never thought of that...

That was a fairly well worded and unnecessarily long incarnation of the phrase "Those kids with their pop music videos and their violent video games!"

Nah, but in all seriousness, she has a point. For example, the last game I played through was Bastion. Man, the soothing music, anti-violence imagery and delicate messages of equality just really filled me with ROID RAEG!!!!11!!!1

I'm proud to at least see that the comments on the Express are calling as much bullshit on this as we are. I guess papers need to try more subtly to tell us all what to think.

Research shows that within 15 minutes of playing one of these games young men become highly aggressive and lack empathy in normal situation
If this is true in any way, I'd be a mass murderer by now and I'd be eating little puppies for breakfast every morning, considering that I surely have way over 1000 hours of playing violent games, probably far more.
Sigh, I really should stop reading threads like this one, it's always the same with the idiocy of some people. How can anyone in their right mind believe this? Don't people realise how many actually play violent games and that nearly none of us ever does any of the things those people think the games will make us do?
How many times in history have people blamed something completely unrelated for their problems because it's much easier that way? That's the exact same reason here again, people just don't like responsibilities, they just like it nice and easy.
Why must you always repeat yourself history?
