Bobbies? Are we still in the 70's?
Bobby is just an English term for a police officer, and she is old enough to have lived through the 70's.
*raises eyebrow* So was I. I still wouldn't use the term unless it was in mocking though.

If people blame video games for murders, riots and violence, does that mean there was no crime before video games were created. I wish people would stop finding things to blame for people's behaviour. If video games turned people into murdering psychopaths then there would be no-one left alive.

Sorry, I didn't mean that in an offensive way, I was just trying to clarify.

Nice to see that at least she thinks videogames only affect 50% of the population, they aren't that bad! /sarcasm.

Seriously though, if you're gonna be wrong why not just top it off with casual sexism?

Edit: AHAH! Found it, she said Nanny-state in a non-ironic manner, that means I get to officially label her with CONSERVATIVE. Call it unfair and discriminatory, but that doesn't help my opinion of her.

These people know nothing about games, I spend years strangling people with barbed wire on manhunt 2 (Or circumcising them if you keep the button held long enough) and I laugh. I spend 5 seconds on
LINK REMOVED
and I'm crouched up into a ball in the shower, praying to god to wipe my mind clear (Ironically I'm an atheist) and afraid to blink just incase I conjure back up the memories. The second time I visit the website I am completely desensitized to it, and even laugh my ass off at the caption competitions.

So the moral of this story is, Fake Violence desensitizes people to fake violence and people will most likely still feel sick after watching a guy get gutted by a screwdriver in reality, Real violence desensitizes to all.

I feel I'll leave this post with a good quote from scream:
Sidney: Do you know why you kill people Roman? Do you?
Roman: I don't want to hear it.
Sidney: Because you choose to. There is no one else to blame.
Roman: Damnit!
Sidney: Why don't you take some fucking responsibility?

Moderator Edit ~ Shock website link removed, please don't post those sorts of links

What's this about "points" for violence? Games grew out of points long ago, only multiplayer really uses it. It's like nobody cares to see how in-depth a game can get these days, and just see blood and killing and instantly conclude it's a violent kill-fest that corrupts the youth of the world. Just because they can't tell the difference between pixels on a screen and a real person doesn't mean everyone else has the same retardation.
Yeah, seriously, what is it with saying that games give players "points" for violently killing? It just proves that the media has no idea what they are talking about. (I used the quote marks because they always seem to pronounce it that way)

No offense taken. :) Just that I know I'd never use that word to describe policeman unless I was ripping my own age. It's just an appeal to older people.

Uh...I don't think that word means what you think it means.

Perhaps decapitation? asphyxiation?

"15 minutes of playing one of these games young men become highly aggressive and lack empathy"

This study involved someone DELIBERATELY dropping pencils on the floor then I wouldn't pick them up. The person who dropped them should pick them up the malicious Cretin.

"so brutal they completely desensitise anyone taking part"

In Uncharted 2 I kill loads of soldiers, but that doesn't mean I would kill loads of people without thinking about it.

"points are given for burning, shooting and killing"

Most games these days involve getting from point A to point B. You only shoot or kill or whatever to avoid taking lead to the head.

'Sigh'

I hope these people would just blame world hunger on games, to let people see them for who they are.

Yes, and the LA riots in the '70s were just because people got violent in anticipation for video games making them violent. I can't believe they're this desperate for a scapegoat.

Oh joy, another person claiming video games are the spawn of the devil, blah blah blah...

I fully agree-I won a Team Deathmatch on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and immediately went outside and deployed a Tactical Nuke on 10 Downing Street. If I remember correctly, I killed everyone in Europe.

"These horrific games where points are given for burning, shooting and killing, where the graphics are so realistic you believe that they?re real scenes of carnage, where those who play fantasise they have the power of life and death, are so brutal they completely desensitise anyone taking part."

The desensitization part... there might be something to that. I think media, including video games, is bombarding us with negative information all the time so that we don't get shocked anymore when things like the riots happen. And without being shocked, there's little incentive to change.
