Horses for courses, or so I've heard...

Silliness aside, I am curious, but I prefer not to eat anything that people class as "more intelligent animals".

I fail to see why it was illegal in the first place. It's a tasty and exceptionally lean meat from what I've heard. Better than pork at least. That meat is almost as full of fat as your average obese person.

No reason to ban horse meat really. Since i live next to Hungary, i get to enjoy their horse salami & sausages; as well as the local Leberkäse, a type of meat loaf, ideally made from horse :p

There is also concerns re: the types of medications used on horses that have been banned from use on "food animals". As there is no way to track or know what kind of medications have been given to a particular horse, you could be chowing down on something not approved by the FDA.

Horse is tasty, and eating it is about as sensible as riding one of the things. Horses take up a lot of land, about time someone did something useful with them

Honestly, eating a horse is not more wrong than eating a cow.

I am pretty sure both earns the death penalty in Equestria.

I didn't realize it was banned, I always just thought it was a cultural thing. Honestly, horses just don't seem like they would be very tasty. They spend all their time running, so the meat would probably be all lean and gamey... Even with venison, you gotta put it in a stew or mix it with beef fat to really get a good flavor. I guess I'd try it, just to see what it tastes like, but I'm sure I'd stick to cow.

EU person here.

I had no idea the US banned horse meat. It's tasty. It gets sold right next to the cow steaks in the supermarkets 'round these parts. The prevailing opinion here looks down on dog meat tho, claiming that a horse falls under the cattle category and dogs fall under the pets category.

/shrug

Could someone explain what exactly is meant by "Horse Meat Inspection Ban lifted" and how that would lead to new horse slaughterhouses?

Was the a ban on inspections on whether or not butchers were killing horses? And how would the lifting of such a ban then increase horse slaughter? I like to think my English is pretty good, but I can't make sense of that sentence.

Anyone?
