Wait, seriously? Whoooo! I've been wanting to try horse meat for years. This is good. They shall join cows, pigs, and goats in the stables. This has been done on large scales before, so there is not much reason not to consider it.

I had no idea the US banned horse meat.
They also have banned Kinda Eggs.

True story.
I always wonder why I can never find them. Why would they ban those? Gah...great backwards country that we are...

So many fanfic references...

OT: Yum! I'll take a double Horse Burger with Cheese! Seriously, it's about time. Horses are just as edible as cows or pigs.

I remember reading an article once that said Japan had a horseflesh flavored ice cream for a promotional event. How is this that different??? ;)

Really, the country with the highest meat consumption per citizen had a ban on horse meat o_O
I'm really really suprised by that.

At my place the horse steak lies next to all the other dead animals since i can remember. I'm happy for you guys, since horse and foal are delicious meat.
Specially for fondue bourguignon or fondue chinoise.

Guten Appetit.

Edit: Eating rabbit and horse is very common in europe. Rabbit also tastes neat.

No reason to ban horse meat really. Since i live next to Hungary, i get to enjoy their horse salami & sausages; as well as the local Leberkäse, a type of meat loaf, ideally made from horse :p
Well, I'm surprised to read that on here. Go Leberkäse!

There is also concerns re: the types of medications used on horses that have been banned from use on "food animals". As there is no way to track or know what kind of medications have been given to a particular horse, you could be chowing down on something not approved by the FDA.
So... it's not only tasty it might even give people the ability to be faster and have more stamina? I don't see a problem with that!

To summarize it, horses aren't raised as livestock, so there are safety issues regarding antibiotics. Aside from that problem, the majority of people in the US see horses as companion or working animals, not food. Combined with past problems regarding animal cruelty in the slaughter industry, most people either frown on eating horse meat or just think the entire idea is weird. I've never see horse meat in grocery stores, even before the ban (only five years old), and it hasn't been used in pet food since the 1970s. Almost all the meat is exported.

Horse meat is legal now?

Now we can truly usher in the reign of the Fire Gods as we consume the flesh of the false ones!

Well, I can already see I've already been ninja'd, maybe more than once, but balls to it.

Hey look, something taxable for the US. I'm all for it.

Edit: In fact, why was there even a ban?
It was banned due to cultural reasons, I don't think anything it's really a good enough reason.

However, nowadays, restarting the horsemeat industry is a bit dodgy, simply because of the current state of our horse ownership. Since they've not been classed as a 'food animal' the sorts of medicines and things given to them are impossible to properly track, and it'd far too easy for someone to get hold of some meat with absolutely no idea what hazardous chemicals are still in it.

In order to implement accurate and thorough produce tracking, it'd take a lot of work. I doubt it's worth it.

Never eaten horse before so the ban never applied to me, can't see any point in the future where I'd be able to eat horse so the unban also doesn't apply to me.
Still, good for people who want to eat horse, and good for me too should I ever be able to try any.

I wasn't even aware that horse meat was illegal over there. And honestly, why? It's very tasty and actually a ton more healthy than beef, which is full of fat and mass produced corn. Horse on the other hand is very lean, with little fat.

You guys will put a burger between two krispy kreme donuts but you wont eat horse?
