How can I get my dreams back?

I used to have amazing dreams every single night. A couple of these I turned into short stories. There was one that even talked about being reincarnated as myself when I woke up. But nowadays, I don't dream at all. Maybe a random, drifting thought every once in a while, but nothing compared to what I used to have. Do any budding psychologists know of ways I can start dreaming again or how dreams work in general so I can work on it myself?

Maybe not taking advice from strangers from the internet would help who can pretend to be whatever they wanted.

Go see a real doctor.

I'm not an expert but I know that you always dream during REM-sleep, you just can't remember them.

I've always wanted to use this. [http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+do+I+get+my+dreams+back]

It's a shame half of the results are song lyrics, though.

If so, http://www.dreamviews.com/community/showthread.php?t=6207 will help.

If your wanting to be able to control them, almost live another life within a dream visit, http://www.dreamviews.com/community/showthread.php?t=6214

If you've started drinking more alcohol that is quite possibly the cause. You don't get REM sleep when intoxicated (or so I believe) which has got something to do with why you feel particularly rough the morning after (along with other factors of course). When you fall asleep drunk, you're not sleeping in the common sense of the word. I don't know the exact science but I know that it can cause lack of dreaming.

There are several strategies to getting better dream recall. Even just saying: "I will dream tonight" will improve your recall. The second is to write them down in a dream journal. You can find the details easily on our old friend Wikipedia.

But don't expect Immediate results. It takes a while.

You always dream, you just don't always remember them. I think I read that dreaming is your mind sorting out the days experiences, and this can form some weird stuff. But once the mind has sorted it all out, it doesn't really need to hold onto the dream, so it forgets it.

I ususally find that I'll go a few days or weeks remembering almost every dream, and then a period of forgetting them. I was once told that keeping a "Dream Diary" (you write down whatever you remember about the previous night's dreams, even the smallest detail.) Apparently this helps, I never tried it myself.

What works for me is eating Gruyere cheese before bed... Then I usually get crazy dreams.

most of the time when i dream its right before i wake up, so in the morning if you wake up then try to go back to sleep. maybe you can trigger it when you double back

Try sleeping more. That should give you more of a chance to have decent dreams. It works for me.

Funny...
I've always had extremely vivid dreams, but about four years ago, it stopped. I wasn't hardly dreaming at all. It was bothering the hell out of me, but a year ago, they came back. I have no idea why they went away or what caused them to come back, but I guess my point is they may not be gone for good.

I know of a few things that help, I like to listen to music when I sleep and that does influence what you dream about. Also, if your stressed out a lot, that will contribute to lack of dreams, your mind is always racing if your stressed and you won't sleep as well.
