whenever you do dream, keep a journal of whatever it is that you dreamed.
throughout the day, go ahead and make "reality checks" to make yourself question whether you are conscious or not. This will allow you to recognize the things going on around you and to understand when you actually are dreaming.

afterward- youll remember the things you dream about much easier

As someone who woke up this morning having had a dream-within-a-dream and remembered most of it enough that I could relay it to a friend, I'm feeling smugly superior right now.

Eat pizza before you go to bed.

I've always found that I have really weird and vivid dreams whenever I drink sage tea (natural cough remedy)

Go to bed earlier? Keep a dream journal?

Play an intense round of company of heroes or call of duty? I find I get crazier dreams when I've got my adrenaline up.

Sleeping pills. Every time I have ever taken one I get really vivid dreams. It is a well known side effect. Of course I wouldn't recommend using pills often, and I don't. Yet when changing time zones I use them to alter my sleep patterns, and every time I do I get really vivid dreams that are easy to recall.

There's a lot of dreaming to be had by the food you eat especially if you eat late. Spicy and chinese food is pretty good for provoking lucid dreaming as is cheese (and pizza).

Later is better as essentially undigested food keeps the body active and as a result feeds the mind.

I used to be able to take dreams in to my sleep by focusing on a subject or person before i slept.

If you really want to have some kick arse dreams I recommend 24 hour nicotine patches (Nicotin CQ if you're British) although I shouldn't need to elaborate on why its not actually a good idea.

And here I thought someone's life had been kicked over the fence and needed counseling...
