How can you NOT have played that?!

My gentlemen I present you with a task to top this: 98% of the people that surround me have never heard of an XBOX (360), also haven't watched Star Wars, think there's only a Nintendo game console (no Wiis, Gamecubes, SNESes, 64s) just Nintendo, gamers only play Counter-Strike 1.6 and play PES (there are two guys I know of that have played an RPG, one is my brother, second is his friend)...

This is getting too long.

May I ask what country you live in? I'm just curious as to where nobody's ever heard of anything beyond a Nintendo, yet somebody still has the money to buy a PC and enough food to live off of.

I hope that doesn't sound bad...

Bosnia. It's not a (very) poor country, but the people are uninterested in technology, which you may blame on electronic retailer(s) who don't actually get any merchandise and a Wii costs 500$ in the countries just next to Bosnia and an iPhone 4G (used) is some 1000$. Also the prices are laughable compared to the salaries, my mom makes 500$ a month as a full-time teacher (40 hours a week) and it's considered above average so people aren't really waiting for midnight launches and raging over every piece of technology.

Uh, I own a Gamecube, but I've only played Harvest Moon on the SNES. So... not really sure where I fit in there. I did love the game, though.

Because I don't understand how someone can say "I play games. The games I play are good.", yet not playing a game that is revered as being one of the greatest games ever.

You've kind of lost me here .... I view games as a form of entertainment. I've played good ones and I've played bad ones. I've played quite a few some would consider to be the greatest ever and come away disappointed, it doesn't mean the others people are wrong it just means its not a game I enjoyed.
When I played Doom and Dune 2 I thought they were the greatest ever, same with Deus Ex and the Half Life series. Possibly Diablo ruined a certain aspect for me as it introduced me to the concept of random levels, where 90% of the game is unique (pretty much) each play through. So games like Kotor/BG/Mass Effect while being really good on first play through bore me very quickly as everything is the same on each play through (ok not 100% everything but you get my point).
Defining a game as being so brilliant I have to tell other people about it has to be weighed against who I'm talking to, no point recommending DoD Source to someone who doesn't play online or only has a console.
I find the whole "this game is so awesome ... there must be something wrong with you if you haven't played it" view to be much like the hype surrounding games on their initial release .... just that hype, intended to get you to invest in the title.
Which is why I'm quite happy to wait for 6 months or so after a game is released to actually get some decent feedback on it before I'll buy. I don't think anyone can honestly say that playing a particular game made a huge difference to their life .... unless you were playing GTA and forgot to pickup your Dad ..... who walked home and got hit by a truck

I understand what you mean, but I'm just surprised that someone could not have played a game so famous. Sure it may not be everyone that likes it, but most people have at least tried it once :/

I suppose that's the point though. Everyone HAS heard about Pac-man, but (before digital distributors like steam) how many people actually have access to play it now that it's no longer under distribution?
I was born in 1990, and i din't get into videogames until '99. Pac-man wasn't exactly available to us, and if it was there were much shinier tings to buy for our Game Boy Colors, N64's and Playstations.
I'm just wondering how many ppl are basing the "we all played it, so EVERYONE must have played it" on the fact that they were there when Pac-man was available and popular (in the 80s?).

The thing is Pac-man was everywhere. It was around even during the 90's. I have it on my cellphone. There were arcades with it at the time arcades were packed with people (are they still?). People could have played it by accident. It wasn't as much as a game as a fad. I was also born in 1990 and I played Pac man, Zork, Aklabeth:World of Doom...so it's a matter of choice and how interested you are in what games were.

I can't imagine ever wanting to sit through the 80-hour drivel of a Bioware game twice. It's not that it's all bad, it's just completely not worth the time. Maybe if it took 20-30 hours to see all the content.

I can't believe there are people who haven't played shadow of the colossus, seriously, it's shadow of the fucking colossus. If i take over the world, english exams will all consist of playing shadow of the colossus and then writing in 1000 words or more, why it's so amazing.

I imagine there's all sorts of gamers who never knew there were Atari computers, much less played a RPG that was exclusive to it.

I personally didn't know the Atari ST existed. I stopped paying attention to Atari computers with the Atari 600 and by 1987 (when DM came out), I was playing video games on PCs.

EDIT: oops, started on Atari ST, eventually ported to other systems including PCs.

Still, never heard of it and I was aware of Bard's Tale, Ultima, and Wizardry; which were some of the major RPG franchises of the period.
