Yes, you would only get stereotypes, but if you were to put that kind of information in with just a small amount of subtlety or change the female love interest into a male love interest without affecting the story or characters in any way, you wouldn't.The_root_of_all_evil said:If you have to state your sexuality when you appear though, don't you think you'll only get stereotypes?
*Sigh* ^^ This. I couldn't give a toss about whether the main character is a [Insert minority here]. Having a [Insert minority here] in a bad game won't stop it being a bad game.pdgeorge said:Why should people care really?
If people expected it to happen we all know it would be nothing but fan service done to appease the gay/lesbian community.
That community is the minority. Things arn't tailored to them specifically because well... if your making a product would you aim it for the majority or the minority?
Plus traditional stories always has "boy meets girl, boy saves girl, boy marries girl" to do "boy and boy" and "girl and girl" will only potentialy open up the wrath of people and just be seen as tacky trying to cash in on the fact it isn't done regularly.
Plus am I the only one that notices... it's usualy the majority people with very few things aimed against them (except claims "your a discriminatory jerk!") that like to turn around and say "OH! thats racist to a group of people other then me!" "OH! thats sexist to girls! and I'm a boy I should know!" "I'm straight but those poor poor homosexuals"
Is it just me or does bringing up these differences in people only cause people to MORE see the differences between two groups of people? Instead of seeing eachother as just people, it brings about the whole "I see this person for this trait" thing

Oh and Marcus Fenix is defiently gay have you seen the pure Manley tension in those games. But my point is outside RPG's its never really important what their sexuality is.
No you're right, you'd get a gimmick. A meaningless change to appeal to a whining minority. The infamous SCAMola said:Yes, you would only get stereotypes, but if you were to put that kind of information in with just a small amount of subtlety or change the female love interest into a male love interest without affecting the story or characters in any way, you wouldn't.The_root_of_all_evil said:If you have to state your sexuality when you appear though, don't you think you'll only get stereotypes?
But if it's a meaningless change then let 'em have it. The only thing I find gimmicky is that 99.9% of all videogame protagonists are white heterosexual males, which last time I checked isn't really the way things are.Baby Tea said:No you're right, you'd get a gimmick. Well, like it or not, that meaningless gimmick wouldn't sell. Developers are out to make a game that is enjoyed by the most people possible, not the small minorities. The infamous SCAMola said:But if it's a meaningless change then let 'em have it. That doesn't mean we still shouldn't give them shit about it.Baby Tea said:Well, like it or not, that meaningless gimmick wouldn't sell. Did it perhaps occur to you that this may be because there are few gays/lesbians out there?Gaskell said:It just occurred to me that very few games have gay or lesbian characters.
