Metro 2033 is hailed as a half life clone. To me HL2 was just another shooter wit ha very confusing story (guess I should have played the first)

I would say there ARE half life clones, but you don't recognize them because what defined half life games was ingenuity. Constantly new puzzles or strategies or whatever were available. Most devs don't seem to have much of this "creativity" stuff I've heard about.

Maybe developers think that Half-Life 2 is such a piece of shit that they don't want to make a clone.

so, why are there so many GTA/Halo clones but no half life 2 clones?
Because Half Life 2 didn't innovate anything, it pushed existing game features to the limit and put them to the best use. Plus, it took years to make Half Life 2, any game studio seeking a quick buck by making a clone of an existing game know better than to take that long.
Actually the first game was innovative in which it brought in scripted events that you'll now see in games like Call of Duty.

I use to refer to it as Doom Smart...lol

Crappy trolling was Crappy xD

Ontopic:

Well Everyone has a mental idea of something ripping something off and im sure people have said xxxxxx is ripping off xxxxxxx where as others would argue, while some features may have been borrowed that seems to be how games roll these days like say the personal shield in Halo xD

I Personally try to look at games for themselves rather than comparing or looking for "Cloned" things about it or we could go on all day and night

You said it like it's a fact, not an opinion.

Which makes your excuse for trolling pretty stupid.

I don't really have anything to add to the topic.

why would anyone want to make a clone of it? its not that different compared to other games, its got vechles/aliens/senseless run and gun tactics so it could be related to any other game

OK. Let me just say this.
I found it boring.
Now stop quoting me.

The reason I love the gman, is because he was the most interesting character.

How did this become a debate as much about Halo as Half-Life?

Anyway, there probably have been some more subtle imitations of Half-Life, it's just that Half-Life makes more use of its physics engine than most other developers would like, I guess. In terms of everything else (purely at face value, of course), Half-Life is pretty much nondescript.

don't moan to me if you don't agree, IGN just put it at #1
Well then, allow me to moan about IGN instead.

IGN is a website filled with hacks who like to refer to themselves as games journalists because it makes them feel special. IGN is populated by the biggest sellouts in the entire games industry. Every big-name title receives at least a 9 from IGN regardless of quality, because the site is so set on making as much money as possible that they put expressing their opinions after not alienating any fanbase on their list of priorities. They also swoon over graphics, often allowing their opinion on a game to be entirely swayed by graphics (Crysis made their top 25 PC games. No, you heard that right.). In addition to being sellouts, their reviews are incredibly poorly written. Their review for BFBC2 praised the respawn system and regenerating health for providing a "more realistic combat experience." In all likelihood, my cat could walk across my keyboard and create a better review than the IGN staff could. And worst of all, IGN is so into getting the big bucks that they couldn't even stick to games journalism, and had to also start writing half-assed movie and television "reviews" as well. These are somehow even worse than the games reviews, as evidenced by Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece Inglorious Basterds scoring less than the G.I. Joe movie. IGN wouldn't know quality if it slapped them in the face.

Allow me to close my rant with my interpretation of how IGN scores games:

Big-name titles that are actually good: 9.5 or higher
Big-name titles that suck: 9.0 AT THE VERY LEAST. We don't want any fans to be offended, now.
Amazing games that not as many people have heard of: 8.5 AT THE VERY MOST. We don't want to rock the boat too much.
Very good games that not as many people have heard of: 8.0
Incredibly good, obscure games: 7.0 - It's not like people are actually gonna read these, and we don't want everyone catching on to the fact that we give 9's to FUCKING EVERYTHING.
Genuinely terrible games (not big-name titles, of course): 6.0
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages: 10. No, I am not making this up.

To make Half-Life good, it took Valve WORK. The same thing that some game companies don't like to do. So they just throw darts at a wall with some big name games on it and develop a game similar to the one with the most darts in it.
