Two words:

[HEADING=1]Unpleasable. Fanbase.[/HEADING]

I've been playing it cool, keeping it real, and been thoroughly aware that people are always too quick to judge and that many should be ashamed of themselves. Not because they're right or wrong, but because they just HAD TO raise a stink about it. You make those of us who have a PS3 and an ounce of tolerance look really bad.

They got my credit card number and info and I still think the whole thing is hilarious. I'm a PC fanboy, if anything, so I could really care less. I hope they use my money to be coke and whores, that's all I was going to do with it. Fuck Sony and fuck MS and fuck Valve and fuck every giant megacorp that's raping its supporters and fans. It's Sony this time but it could be MS or Apple or Steam next. And I'm fine with that.

Because people are dicks who will never pass up an opportunity to tell you why they believe they're better than you.

This is almost exactly what I was going to post. "People are dicks,.."

I dunno why people do it. On most of the news stories I've read it's been almost singularly sony fanboys going 'xbox sucks' 'microsoft sucks' 'ps3 for the win'. I find it pretty hilarious, since these stories are factual stories about how the network for their platform is faulty, and they're still hammering on about Microsoft being terrible. I don't get it. To me, it's akin to watching your house burn down as the firefighters watch and pick their noses and then praising the fire department and bashing on the police force.

TL; DR: everything has issues, and people like to argue (often to make themselves feel better), even if it doesn't make sense.

Coming into this as a Nintendo fangirl, it was like a gleeful kid in the candy store.

I mean, Nintendo takes a crap on its userbase, but it's the kind of crap we want oddly enough >_>; It's the same game rehashed, and that's just how we like it.

Microsoft gives you a similar thing, but more tailored towards making boys feel like men and girls feel like useless sex objects that can't do anything right. And don't get me started on their online gameplay, ho-lee crap >_<

Sony kind of tries to do everything, which leads to me staring at my wallet and going "yeah, um...no." There's nothing really leaping out at me.

But this isn't about the game systems themselves. It's about the game companies.

Nintendo is an evil organization, but they don't really do anything disturbingly evil. They're like the kid who grabs discarded books. Sure, they might be taking something that's not theirs, but it looked kinda discarded anyway so, whatever.

Microsoft is a -very- evil organization, and they don't even try to hide it. Their Xbawks line is made of shoddy equipment that's barely strung together, and their 360's have an abysmal failure rate (I've heard it ballparked at 60%, my -God-). I won't even cover their evil legacy, as it goes far and deep; and frankly, their idiotic fans aren't bright enough to realize that.

Sony takes the cake, though. If you wanna name their biggest three frack-ups prior to this one, you'd be hard pressed to defend their actions. Let's start with the least evil: the removal of Linux. Yeah I guess that gave room for hackers, so maybe that was kind of a good thing. Exploding laptops. Okay, that's kind of bad, but hey, that was just some third world country fracking up.

Opening up a backdoor in your computer that isn't detectable and allows malware to slip in unnoticed just by putting in any Sony music disk. Yeah, that's pretty much as evil as it can get. They willingly did this to people who spent money on their product.

So frankly, I don't think Sony deserves any kind of respect after this fiasco. Especially given that they aren't exactly nice little angels. Don't get me wrong, I love my PS2 to death; but I don't think I'm ready to go spread my legs and give Sony all of my personal info. They don't give a shit about me, so why should I defend them?

Same with any game company, really.

This is just two equally stupid fan bases waving their e-peens and shrieking obscenities. So in many ways, it's like being forced to listen to an Xbox live conversation. Both companies suck equally hard, and their fanbois aren't willing to accept that their companies suck.

But the Sony fanboi. Oh GOD the Sony fanboi. It's like the poor fella is permanently trapped in a delusional mindset. They defend Sony as doing the right thing when this entire mess was caused by Sony doing two -very wrong- things. Removing the other OS option, and storing your personal data as lackadaisical as I store sneakers. But somehow the Sony fanbois remain utterly ignorant, refusing to admit that SONY IS AWFUL. At least some of the Microsoft fanbois have the balls to admit that Microsoft is awful; but I'm hard pressed to find a single Sony fanboi who hasn't stopped suckling on Sony's toes for long enough to realize that Sony has a terrible foot fungus.

And when it's pointed out, they started sucking the toes even harder because foot fungus is delicious.

Maybe they don't say that because the first thing they did wrong probably has nothing to do with this, and you have no proof for the second one.

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. Actually, it does, because if they hadn't removed the functionality that the system shipped with, Geohot wouldn't have posted the workaround which ultimately allowed hackers to be able to break in and have their fun times.

And what do you mean, no proof? There's really no proof that Sony stored data poorly? -Really-? Do I need to google one of the ten thousand articles for you? Or look it up on Sony's website? Because that seems hilarious within itself.

So you're telling me that they had the personal data stored very well, in a very secure way and it was a miracle that it got hacked?

I sense great fanboi power within you.

I take my card off Steam after every purchase now, just in case hackers ever target them.

Oh wait. People somehow believe Steam is hack-proof.
I've been thinking about this, I think this is a really good example of how fragile something as big as Steam is, yes Sony is arguably a bigger company than Valve but most things you purchase from Steam are 20 pounds an item or around 35 dollars that is significantly a lot more than PSN users, except for PSN+ users. I think Valve will have been playing really close attention to how all this goes down and learns a lot from it

OT: This is why I like having both PS3 and Xbox 360 and hopefully soon PC which will be my main platform yeah.

I sense great assumptions within you.

What does Geohot have to do with a hack job? Did the hackers hack a company's security system from their PS3? Because I'm betting they used PC's.

I said YOU have no proof for the second one. Link me to a credible source on this (I doubt there is one though, it's all speculation from everyone except Sony, and you wont take sony's word).

I'm not saying they stored it well, but they way you described it, I don't think they were that careless with it. Someone had to take the time to HACK INTO A MAJOR COMPANY'S SECURITY SYSTEM to get that information. I'd say that's pretty protected. Nothing's invincible, it was just Sony who got hacked first.

Just because I don't take your assumptions seriously, it doesn't make me a fanboy. I don't agree with you. There.

Allow me to explain:

X-Box fanboy: "Lol Sony's screwed there fans r all leaving them"

Sony fanboy: "Nu-uh, they're gonna beat those hackers up an get all r info back, and then their gonna give us all free games to apologize for it!"

X-Box fanboy: "Lolyarite. Sony suuuux. This whole thing was all their fault."

Sony fanboy: "STFU if you were hacked you wouldn't say it was your fault!!!"

(Cusses are exchanged, flame war activated.)

Side-note: I don't think Sony's gonna really suffer that much from this. They actually are looking for a way to show their appreciation for our patience while the PSN is down.

Fanboys are fanboys and not a good representation of the community. Every community has douchebags.

You also misused the word tis.

I'm not your errand girl. You don't believe Sony was incompetent, and I see no point in linking you to SONY to prove my point. You're being lazy, and grasping at straws. Because even if their defenses were good, even if the hacking had -nothing- to do with their stripping of functionality, they're still dicks.

And arguing about dicks is best left to the Xbawksers.

I was just asking for a link, jeez. Really, show me where Sony says that their defense was incompetent (I'm not that interested to search well I'm playing my PS3 at the moment). I win either way if they said that: If they said it, they're humble, not a dickish attitude, and if they didn't, well then you were lying.

I'm being realistic is what I'm being. Sony wouldn't just leave all account information in a folder labled "account information" like you would leave shoes around the house labled "my shoes". I doubt they're that irresponsible. You don't make billions in profit doing that.

And I find their apology undickish. That's just me though.
