Three words. Super. Mario. World. I was raised on the Super Nintendo and N64. Then I was introduced to the Playstation 2. Then Xbox. Wii/Gamecube. Xbox 360. Then PS3. Only the PS2, Wii/Gamecube and the PS3 belonged to me. The rest were my brother's.

There were two factors.

The first was the fact that I have two older brothers. Between the three of us and all the activities we do, it's really hard to stand out, you know? It's hard to develop a personality separate from them when everyone just groups us together. We all try to do activities that the other two have no interest in so people identify us by that interest. I write comic books, make videos, and play video games. I admit, it gets hard when my brothers and parents don't understand how interesting video games can be and just see it as time wasting drivel, but I don't really care any more. It eases my stress, and I have fun while doing it.

The second was the game Bioshock. Now, I was a Nintendo fanboy for the longest time, and no matter how many times somebody would try to convince me to get an XBox, I refused. But then someone showed me a trailer for Bioshock, and told me the concept. I was enthralled. I couldn't believe the amount of depth and emotion in the story, and when I compared it to something like Zelda or Mario, Bioshock just stood out. I think Bioshock was the game that made me realize how great video games could be and how they could tell brilliant stories. It was what made gaming go from a casual interest to a genuine passion. That is why I am such a Bioshock fanboy. It changed my life.

The gamer I am today is from a number of events.

My first exposure to gaming was watching my cousin play NES. He almost never let me play, though. I did get my own NES shortly after that for christmas when I was 3 or 4 years old. I got hooked into gaming from there. Luckily so did my mom, who would play my NES while I was at school. So since she also played, it was easier to convince my parents to get me new games and systems as they came out.

I still game on all consoles, but my first love is PC gaming. That started in 1996 when I got the original Tomb Raider for PC. Not sure why, but it caused me to fall in love with PC gaming.

Gaming then lead me into upgrading and eventually building my own gaming PC's, as well as keep up to date on related technologies.

I think the final big event that shaped the gamer I am today, started with the Sims. I got into the Sims Online beta, and bought the game when it came out in Dec. 2002. I had met a good number of people in that game, one of which introduced me to Star Wars Galaxies. From that, I became a huge fan of MMO's and ever since then have always had an active subscription to at least 1 MMO. Sometimes multiple MMO's.

And that is where I sit as a gamer today. I own all 3 current generation consoles, numerous older consoles, multiple handheld systems, and a gaming PC. I enjoy most types of games, but prefer MMO's and RPG's. Heh, and I never feel as if I have enough time to game anymore.

Edit: I also can't forget, I am not very fond of, or good at, socializing, and prefer to stay at home than go out. That is also a large contributing factor to the gamer I am today.

I played my SNES a lot, and then got a PSOne. I was going to get a Gamecube but one of my friends pointed out that Nintendo was (and still is) getting increasingly shit at making games.

The gamer I am today? SimCity on the SNES had a lot to do with that, then a girl in 1994 showed me Sid Meier's Civilization on her PC. It was off to the races. I might've outgrown video games if they were just "Mario jumps on mushrooms and turtles". But deep, strategic experiences? That's something I could carry to adulthood.

I played Goldeneye and NFL Blitz on the N64, and NASCAR, Gran Turismo, and Spyro on the PS1. Played Need for Speed Hot Pursuit on the PC. I got an Xbox, and played a lot of MechAssault. Upgraded to a 360, and the biggest thing to where I am today was getting Xbox Live and becoming addicted to CoD4.

I started playing Halo 1 at a friend's house. I then completely ignored everyone as they went too another room and watched Spiderman 2. I came over to watch that movie. I ended up blowing it off so I could just keep playing. Now I'm on my way to be a game designer. Funny how your world can change with such a simple thing.

If how I became a gamer in general: Super Mario Brothers on the NES when I was 3.

If how I become the gamer I am at present time: I played too many damn RPGs that I burned out of the genre. Sad because RPGs are my favorite genre. Grew up playing a great many RPGs on consoles, moved on mostly to MMORPGs on PCs, 8 years went by...sick of genre but I still try to play them only to exhaust any entertainment in 3-5 days.

I spend most of my time with FPS/Action games and web/game design now.

Edit: Just found out i was actually 20 months old when I first played SMB. That changes a lot.

When I was a kid my mom would take me to her friend's house whenever they were getting together for coffee. They had two sons and I got to play their N64. Eventually my mom caved and bought me my own and the rest was history. I'm still waiting for a Starfox game to rival Starfox 64 :/

A PSOne, and a copy of Spyro: Year of the Dragon, for christmas, 2001. Any free time I had got devoted to that game. Then, later on, my dad showed me Commander Keen, and I fell in love again. I later broadened my horizons, and became the psychotic lunatic who murders innocent civilians in Fallout 3, and giggles uncontrollably that you see today.
