A lot changed...
For the PS1/PS2 era, I stuck to JRPGs, basically. The closest thing I had to a first person shooter was Ratchet: Deadlocked. I was so unskilled at genres other than JRPGs, that I had a ton of trouble with God of War 1 on EASY. A ton of trouble. These days, I beat Bayonetta on Hard, so I've come far in 5 years.
I got my 360 about 6 months after it's launch on the good word about Oblivion, and my gaming life changed as I knew it. I found my "Game of the Ever" in Oblivion. Picked up my first ever shooter in the form of "Prey", since I heard that you couldn't die, so I figured that to be a solid starting point. Thank god for that. Boy did I suck at the game. I died dozens of times TRYING TO GET TO THE POINT WHERE YOU COULDN'T DIE!
I wasn't online at the time, so I had Microsoft mail me a backwards compatibility update disc, and dived into Halo, KOTOR, and more. Not Morrowind, as it wasn't added to the BC log until 2 years later. And I had no mind for the PC version, thinking that my 2006 basic, run-of-the-mill home computer wouldn't be able to run it, and too lazy to actually CHECK if it could.
And people, I couldn't beat Halo 1 or 2 on Easy. ON EASY. I was having genuine TROUBLE with Halo on Easy. Baby's First Shooter gave me issues. And now, I've solo'd Legendary in Reach, and weathered 3 Call of Duty games on Veteran.
As for KOTOR, it was more than playable by a strategically raised JRPG hound like me. And after years of being the hero in JRPGs, it was time to be the villain. I was a massive dick to everyone that I met in WRPGs for a good 2 years, until Fable 2 came along and I decided to try the "What would I really do?" approach.
These days, I like pretty much any genre. I'm probably the only person on this site with gaming tastes so diverse and wide to have played the new Medal of Honor AND Persona 4. Two games that few gamers would ever have played, seeing as how one is another military shooter and the other is a niche JRPG.
