I Well I got the pistol, said I'd only use it for emergencies, and then I went crazy with VATS. After realising VATS has a limit on how often and much you can use it, I shot people normally.

When I got up to the Overseer (who I thought was just another guard at the time) I stealth killed him and his buddy, right in front of his daughter. Then I realised who he was and thought to myself "Oh. Ohhh. Meh."

What kind of crash are you getting?

What hardware/OS are you running?
Vista premium, Nvidia 8600GT. I can basically run it flawlessly but I have random crashes. I have all the latest drivers and stuff, DirectX and live. I even removed that video codec but it didn't help.

During the first chapter (vault chapter) It didn't crash even once, Now when I'm outside it crashes all the time. Especially when I exit megaton.
The funny thing is that it loads it up and I can se the screen (perfectly normal) for a second, and even move but in a second it crashes. Other times it just flat out randomly crashes.

Oh yeah, the screen windows and goes black, Then that windows box comes up and searches for the crash reason or whatever it "supposedly" does.
I ROFL'd when you said vista.

I've been playing this game on the 360, I'm about 12 hours in, and have had absolutely no glitches, crashes, or anything of the sort. It appears PC got the shaft.
This is PC gaming lol

my first instinct in a game like this, is to shoot anyone that pisses me off. but i made a character that was supposed to be well-mannered and intelligent. so i have to resist killing someone that isn't attacking me first. however, i will often save the game..go on a killing spree so i get it out of my system. and reload the game before i did all that to maintain my reputation.

I'm kinda playing like that too. I wasn't killing anyone who didn't attack me first at the start though. It wasn't until I tried to get info out of Moriarty and the jerk tried to charge me 100 caps that I didn't have. Then I came back with 100 caps and he wanted 300. He was such a jerk about it that I whipped out my combat knife and killed him. Of course then the good citizens of Megaton killed me, but it was stress relieving to kill that jerk. Have you killed that wormy guy who wanted you to blow up the bomb in Megaton? I told the sheriff about him after he tried to talk me into it. Then the sheriff got killed trying to arrest the guy, so I killed the guy. That was cool as I got karma and none of the citizens killed me. I also got the weapons from both the wormy guy (forget his name) and the sheriff. I felt bad when I went to the sheriff's house and he had a kid there. At least the kid said there were folks in town who would take care of him.

I'm trying to play a game without reloading any decisions I make, but I killed the overseer. He killed my friend, ordered his guards to kill me, and those two students, beat up his own daughter, and then tried to call his guards on me, he left me no choice but to kill him and run. Now his daughter hates me...

I played it like the diplomat, until as you said those two spotted dicks gunned down two very innocent people, then I pulled out a baseball bat and slugged everyone who got in the way. I killed the overseer because I had to. I put my bat away and tried to retreat but he would not relent, so I killed him, it all felt like my actions had sever consequences

It was the perfect chance to test the vats with something other than a BB gun that does no damage :p. Went like a lawnmower through enemies.

I let her keep the gun and proceeded to kill everything that got in my way with the baseball bat. She didn't seem too pleased with me killing her father. Oh well.

I didn't notice what my karma was when I left, I assume it was neutral but I've been pretty much a paragon of virtue since then so it's nothing but good now. That said, I've only been playing it four or five hours so there's plenty of time to grow those devil horns yet.

I've been mindlessly evil playing Fallout 3 (Reaver achievement, yay!) so I shot both the guards following me. You can kite them to the vault exit and stand outside (they're 'afraid' to leave) and shoot them easily without resistance. Oddly enough, I left with neutral karma. Now I'm a horrible badass (i.e. Very Evil) and I kill all the vendors I see.

Beat everyone to death using, shot the overseer with V.A.T.S (His head came off), I've hated overseers ever since the first fallout ;3

I escaped by bashing almost everyone in the head and then going option 1 option 2 on the overseer. He just gives you the keys, no questions.

Looks like I'm the only one playing a "good" character. I let Amata keep the gun, saved Butch's mom and didn't kill anything except for some Radroaches.

there are several ways around talking to moriarty and being able to keep the 400 caps you killed a poor old hooker for.

you can pickpocket moriarty for his key, then use the cabinet in the back for the terminal password, then go on his computer, or you can use your lock/science skills on either of those two things for the same result with no interaction with Moriarty at all.

you don't lose any mainquest movement, you're not skipping something, you're just doing it differently then the quest text tells you to :)

Also, I didn't get it my first game, but there are 150 rounds in the overseers locker.

they're amazing :) really takes the edge off the early "ammo-less" hours of the game.

in my first game, i told the lucas simms about him, then he tried to arrest mr.wormy...whos name is Burkes btw. and lucas got killed. then somehow my game was lost. dont know how..but i had to remake the game. but it went better the second time. got my room in megaton with the vault theme. i finished that one though. and made a new game with the intent on making a finessed suave sharpshooter. and..i made him blow up megaton. which is SOO much better. u get a better room in a hotel that is a master suite. only minor setback is that..the moira girl is now ugly as fuck. and its one less place to visit in ur game.

I played the way I believed was right. Shooting me just because my dad left? That hardly seems fair. So I VATS every gaurd that shot me and the roach's attacking butch's mom. When I got to the overseer I had to resist the little voice that told me to blow his head off and left without killing him or getting the password or keys. Instead I hacked the terminal and left without being hated. Though if I decide to run throught it again I plan on shooting him in the leg once and running like hell to see what happens. Maybe even cripple his leg so I don't need ot run =)

Battered everyone to death with a baseball bat, or shot them in the face. Including the overseer. I don't think they'll let me back in there any time soon.
