I just bought Oblivion. I'll most likely ignore the main storyline and go on my own adventure, maybe as a badass vampire slayer or something.
Oblivion had a main storyline? Huh...

I've made pretty much every different character type you can. Mage, warrior, rogue, battlemage, mage assassin, spell sword, paladin as well as characters where I just cherry picked the attributes that sounded the most fun (usually involving destruction, blade, light armour type characters. Very dark elf-ish).

My character has 100 in every skill and attribute... so... yeah. He pretty much does everything. Frankly once you get all the spellcasting skills to max, hitting stuff with objects just becomes redundant. Hello 750 ranged damage in 5 seconds!
Ranged, nothing. Touch-based spells are obscene. I remember ending up eventually one-shotting everything I touched with a tri-elemental spell I cooked up. I laughed in the face of Deadroth and Dremora. Xivilai trembled in fear at the thought of me running toward them. I believe Jyggalag was down in two hits. Easily my most overpowered character spell.

Despite the ridiculous potential might of destruction magic, I find stealth/ranged characters to be the most fun to play. Stalking a target and putting an arrow between the shoulder blades is still immensely satisfying. Just typing about it almost makes me want to fire up the game again and go hunting.

High Elf, custom class. Mix of warrior and mage. Stuff like Armorer, Block and Blade on one side and Illusion, Restoration and Destruction on the other.

My very first character was a nordic barbarian. He sucked pretty much(Well, I sucked), so I made a black(cant remember the race' name) sword and board character which became my favorite.

Jack of all trades, master of two or three, basically I played an Imperial with a crippling fear of not being airborne.

argonian stealthy swordsman... who later became a vampire... poison? disease? what're those?

and i almost cried when i ran out of assassination missions... cause that meant i had to do the main story...

which i didnt do once i found the thieves guild... then the mage guild... then i did all the shrines... then i quit cause i fucking hated those annoying repetitive cliched ugly and most importantly UNFUN oblivion gates!

if anyone would like to tell me how that game ended, i'd love to hear it.

EDIT: i made a custom class btw... i don't see why anyone wouldnt.

Breton Rogue with Sneak, Illusion, Blade, Alchemy, Light Armour and Block.

I made a point of assigning the first light spell to my magic slot and always walk with my guard up so I could spam the spell until I was lvl 100 in Illusion. I always held the block up in battle, and I always sneaked unless I was about to talk to someone.

I always play Breton because of their extra magicka, resistance to Magic and their boosts in all magic skills. Muahahaha!

I got into a sort of system where I would run from prison into the Arena District. There I would max my Stealth skill and boost my...uh...agility? The one you get from falling. Anyway, I would then complete the Arena quests. I would become Grand Champion after telling the current champion (can't remember his name either...Ash something?) My victory would attract the attention of The Black Hand. I would play it off as a bad dream (in-game) and try to lose myself (in-game) within the Thieves Guild. Once I complete that quest line and become Batman The Grey Cowl, I examine the dagger given to me by the Black Hand. I then use it, thus becoming an initiate into the Assassin's Guild. After the mission in which you are locked in a mansion with 5 other people, I would just replay that one several times before shutting the game off for a few months then going back to do that again.

It's a good system.

Dark Elf stealth-based archer. With my permanent Chameleon enchantment mixed with my maxed stealth skills and agility skills, I can kill pretty much any foe without them even knowing I'm there - even if it takes three or four arrows!

Dark Elf Night Blade. The only thing is though, with all the shiny news daggers and swords I would get I would always forget about this little thing called Magic, that I had at my disposal. It was my first character though, so I broke the habit after a while.

My main was a Nord with Heavy Armor, Blunt, Block, Armorer, Athletics, Acrobatics, and something else I can't remember.

Then I accidentally saved over him... It was a sad day.

I am playing as...

STANLEY THE SLAYER: A tall, blond Nord with combat specialties. First seen in Daggerfall, Stanley has become something of a transcendental hero for my TES games.

Slayer's the custom class.

Breton Battlemage under the sign of the Mage. Obscene amounts of Magic and natural defenses. I tore everything apart by the end. Wielded heavy armor and enchanted Maces.

Dark Elf Bulbasaur.

Basically an Assassin with Destruction spells thrown in. I always play a stealth class and favour bows and daggers, do the Dark Brosephs and Thieves, become a Vampire, live in DeepScorn Hollow and generally be a **** to everyone in game.

I swallowed my disappointment until it turned into sorrow and rage. In the meantime I managed to finish the main quest and many side quests and faction quests three times, once with a stealth/magic using Khajiit, once with an axe-wielding juggernaut of a Nord, and once with a Breton Mage. The mage was the least insufferable to play.
