My father basically shaped my musical tastes. He'd spend a whole day listening to metal bands, which is basically why I've grown to like them. He also made me hate Nirvana.

My father listens/listened to the Rolling Stones and Johnny Cash etc., whilst my mum listens/ listened to classical music (at least when I was growing up - it was the Beatles before that). My brother listened to a lot of 60's music and a lot of 90's indie i.e. Pulp, Blur, the Lightening Seeds, etc.

Now, apart from a couple of Beatles and Johnny Cash songs in my library, there is very little obvious links to my families music tastes at all. I've sort of found my own music taste - I listen to anything from punk-rock to jazz to acoustic to all sorts of other strange stuff and back again.

My dad has... weird taste in music. He listens to Russian Orthodox choirs and Irish drinking songs. I wouldn't object, but he plays them obnoxiously loud. So loud in fact that, and I am not joking, the bass shook the house so much, our chimney broke.

My mum's got pretty good taste, but my taste has been really, really influenced by my brother and sister. They kind of guided me to a very strange spot. I like many different kinds of music, but not metal or heavy metal. Maybe a little Metallica, but nothing heavier than that. Then we go into Slayer and I hate that shit.

I mostly like retro music. A few modern bands, but mainly my stuff is from past centuries. Literally - I have some classical, and even an African choir singing the really old Latin hymns from Christian services.

Without my Dad I wouldn't have heard Bob Dylan (who is by far my favourite musician), Led Zep (an epic band in my opinion) or Queen (also epic). So I have to say thanks to him on that front

My dad played alot of different things, bob marley, pink flloyd, sex pistols, stereophonix, classical while my mom played well crap, so I guess I latched to my dads tastes and went from their.

Though he always loved country, and I cant fecking stand it.

I grew up on a lot of different types of music, my dad always used to play groups like Sugar Hill Gang and The Temptations (love them too)and I grew up on Michael Jackson, (who didn't) My mother used to listen to country but I never really cared for it. It's kinda funny cause now I don't listen to main stream music really at all. Now I listen a lot to Cascada and and even Aqua Timez. My tastes now are all over the place.
