At first I always used a game genie (NES and SNES). As time went on I started to use cheat devices less and less (PS). Now I don't use any third party cheat devices.

Well, first i was a nintendo-only guy, with SNES and N64.
Then i got PS2, in which i just played whatever (from SSX3 to FFX to DBZ:Budokai).
After that i bought warcraft 3, which was my gateway drug to PC gaming (had played a few PC games such as prince of persia).
Oblivion changed my tastes from "whatever" to open-ended sandbox RPGs.
Now i only play PC games.

I started on the first 3D platformers, like Crash Bandicoot and Banjo-Kazooie, on the N64 and PS1.

We moved on to a Gamecube, eventually getting a PS2 and an XBox maybe a year before the XBox 360 was released. Not many many games I specifically remember on any of them, 'cept Halo which I will talk about below.

We had a Wii for the longest time, and only last year did we get a PS3. However, ever since my brother introduced me to the FPS with the Halo series, I was hooked. I hardly play my Wii unless for Goldeneye, and my PS3 for Mirror's Edge and Bad Company 1. Now I'm primarily a PC gamer, nine times out of ten playing a FPS.

I remember always having a GameBoy Advanced, usually with the classic Pokemon games in the system.

I have memories of playing GoldenEye at my cousin's place when I was about 4 (so about a decade ago), and when my older brother got a GameCube, I fell in love with Super Smash Bros. Melee, and I later enjoyed games such as SSX 3 and Paper Mario: TTYD. Then a few years later it was kinda shelved in favor of various Flash games, but a few years on I will say that I enjoyed the Wii. Then, about a year ago I purchased the Orange Box for PC after getting interested in Portal and Half-Life 2, which I think was one of the biggest turning points yet; I started reading up on sites like The Escapist (True story: I first found the site because the Wikipedia entry on Portal linked to Yahtzee's review of the Orange Box), and I've recently become a breathless indie game evangelist to my friends (1 2 3 Kick It! Drop That Beat Like An Ugly Baby, Minecraft, Desktop Dungeons, et al).

I started out with PS2 / PC / Gameboy games.

These aren't in order:
PS2: Crash Bandicoot (Racing, platformers) | Spyro Games | Armored Core | Nascar | Wild Wild Racing | Ace Combat | RC Revenge Pro | MoH
PC: Age of Empires ROR | Roller Coaster Tycoon | Cheesy Hot Wheel racing games | Re-volt
GB: Pokemon | Hokey | Mario | Donkey Kong

Then I got a gamecube...

GC: SSBM | Mario Kart | Super Mario Sunshine | Luigi's Mansion | Mario Party | Kirby | Various Mario Games

Around 2002 I transitioned to mainly PC games:

2002: Age of Empires II | Age of Mythology || Still played a lot of console games, especially SSBM
2003: Age of Mythology | Warcraft III TFT || Played some console games
2004: GunZ: The Duel | Age of Mythology | Warcraft III TFT || Rarely played console games
2005: GunZ: The Duel | Warcraft III TFT
2006: Planetside | Roller Coaster Tycoon 3
2007: Planetside | World of Warcraft | Team Fortress 2 | Crysis
2008: World of Warcraft | Team Fortress 2 | Left 4 Dead | Portal | Half Life 2
2009: Team Fortress 2 | Left 4 Dead | League of Legends | Crysis Warhead
2010: League of Legends | Bloodline Champions | World of Warcraft | Team Fortress 2 | Starcraft II | Alien Swarm | Roller Coaster Tycoon 3
2011: League of Legends | Bloodline Champions | Homefront | Left 4 Dead 2 | Planetside

I've played the occasional console game (Mario Galaxy, Oblivion on PS3, Armored Core 4 Answer, Motorstorm, Ridge Racing etc) over the past 5 - 6 years but overall I've been mostly a PC gamer. I'm sure I've forgotten a lot of console games I used to play.

Interesting question.

First time I used a computer to play games would have been on the BBC Micro they wheeled into my first year junior school class when I was 7. It had Granny's Garden and The Wizard's Revenge on it, and I had to be prised off with a crowbar at the end of the day because I wanted to keep playing them.

When I was 11, my parents, completely out of the blue, bought me and my brother the Amiga 500 Batman Pack, and that was my faithful companion for many years. Still got it, in fact. And in perfect working order, with all my disks and the manuals / code protection the games all came with. Can't bear to part with it. That introduced me to Speedball II, Elite, Dungeon Master, Monkey Island, Populous, Rainbow Islands... So many great games. That was it, I was a goner from that point on.

I got a SNES when I was about 17 or so, because Mortal Kombat was awesome. Still got that, too. Looks like I'm a hoarder. But that wasn't used for long before I picked up a PlayStation in about 1997 / 98. I did this because I went round my boyfriend at the time's house, and he was playing FFVII. I thought it was incredible and wanted a go. He refused. So I got up, left, and went to the nearest EB to buy my own.

Since then, I've stuck with PlayStation right up to the PS3, but also picked up a few XBoxes along the way too. I never found PC gaming to be much good until I was introduced to EverQuest, and I played EQII for about 5 years first for fun, then as a hardcore raider.

About the only thing I don't possess (and have no intention of possessing) is an up to date Nintendo. Wii, DS, 3DS... I just can't bring myself to care about them. Or Mario.

EDIT: The Micro would have been in about 1985. And boy does that make me feel old.

As a kid I played NES games, mostly. Lots of RBI Baseball, The Simpsons, Robocop, Ninja Crusaders, TMNT, Pac-Man...Curiously enough, no Mario, Zelda or Metroid at all! I also played computer games like Hi-Octane, Re-volt and Mortal Kombat 2/3/Trilogy.

We then got a Gameboy, and it was Pokemon Red, Super Mario Land, and Tetris.

Our neighbors had Sega Genesis, so we played Sonic on that for the most part. My cousins had SNES (which I never owned) and there we played mostly Mario. I was pretty darn casual as a kid.

Then the N64 happened. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time happened. I wouldn't identify myself as a gamer until I beat that game. This is probably why I get a little annoyed at the 8-bit aesthetic boom I've seen in indie games recently. I wasn't a gamer until the N64 so I don't identify with the nostalgia.

I moved out of Venezuela the year after and since then I've been a gamer.

I started with Halo Combat Evolved, stuck with that for a few years, then Halo 2, and when the 360 came out I figured I should justify buying that expensive hunk of junk by actually getting some games. I've also been playing WoW for a fair amount of time. I used to only do that and shooters, now I occasionally add a sandbox game or a fighter. Or Minecraft.

I've never had a console, portable or otherwise, so my gaming years began with my parents' PC and games such as AoE1, Captain Claw, Bomberman and something resembling Sim City.

1 - "Oh my god! The pictures move when I press the buttons!"
2 - "Wheeee! Explosions!"
3 - "Hang on, is this game trying to tell me a story? What the hell?! Shut up and give me more explosions. And breasts."
4 - "Huh. That game actually managed to elicit some trace of emotional response. Something is going on here."
5 - "Holy crap! This game is actually better then some books I've read. Nice!"
6 - "Urrg. Another fucking FPS? Another pandering alpha-male power fantasy? This gaming thing feels like searching for gold nuggets in a sewer."

So yeah. Maybe I was better off when I was giggling at the explosions. Then again, maybe that's like saying I was better off when I was three months old and only cared about eating and craping.

Either way, there's no going back now.

It's really hard to remember... but my earliest experience with gaming was with my aunt's super nintendo. I would play toy story, so I must have been like 8 years old. At that time I also played pong at the YMCA's summer camp program.

I actually had a friggin sega game gear, though I only remember playing sonic on it... I probably didn't have any more games, and I had no way of appreciating what I had... never really enjoyed the console because I'd use 6 AA batteries and never had enough charge to finish the friggin game... checking the internet, this was probably before playing toy story, I don't care to know for sure...

When it realy started with with the sega genesis, my cousins would play mortal kombat (2? dunno) and batman. Batman was awesome... they also played misses pacman much more than than a healthy kid with mortal combat should...

On my own genesis I had "Task force harrier EX", jurrasic park, golden axe, virtua racing and outlander.

I had loads of fun with all of those games, and task force harrier ex is one of my favorite games of all time. It's very fun to turn it on and still remember where the powerups are, enemy formations and my old tactics. Golden axe I beat on easy, and I ONCE beat it on "normal", the other games I would get near the end but never finish... except outlander... outlander was veeery daunting, knowing that not matter how long I played I would only move a tiny bit on map. I wonder how the endgame is, because at less than a third through your already shooting down helicopters with roof mounterd RPG's. I loved that game, it was very very badass (and I hadn't seen Mad Max)

OH! I eventually bought Beavis and Butthead. As a kid I beat that game COMPLETELY, with no tips whatsoever. I was even able to get into the special ending where beavis and butthead go backstage, I beat that last extra part by playing with both controllers by myself.

I also had a Sega CD, Android Assault, NBA Jam, Sewer Shark. I beat Android Assault a few times, it was badass too.

Later on in life, I got a nintendo 64, Waverace (me not like), Mario 64 (3D!), Banjo Kazooie (me like), Rougue Squadron (completed 100%! no tips), and later on pokemon snap (at first I was "meh" but then I was "yay").

I also played a LOT of Pod Racer, that game was pretty hardcore.

I would also play 007 goldeney, always loose to my friends and always kick the butt of relatives. Some wrestling game.... pretty hazy after that.

Then came the PS2 era, I played a lot of Dark Cloud and The Bouncer, I was always invited to gaming parties because I was smart enough to have bought a multitap instead of another controller. I had a lot of fond memories, since by this time I was able to play FF7 and grand turismo 2 (hated gt3). By this time I had started reading gaming mags and was finnally aware of all the great games I was missing out of...

Eventually I got a sweet video card and was able to play games like oblivion and rome total war.

Now I sometimes play xbox 360 and mostly game on my PC.

I've usually liked games like outlander or task force harrier EX because of the artwork and stuff (stuff=explosions), and space fighter games like X-wing vs Tie-Figher or rougue squadron. Going on to play more sandbox oriented games like Black and White (1 & 2) and online shooters (rainbow six 3, battlefield 2)

Nowadays I sometimes play project reality (a battlefield 2 mod)

I'm also putting th pieces together for a game idea. Probably something that mixes elements from vertical scrollers, RPG's, scifi, and mechs (mechs dont necesarily mean a game is really scifi per say). I might start it, it might go to the bin... only time will tell. I already made a couple test with game maker 8 and will probably buy the full version when I'm ready to start and have the gameplay sorted out.

So yeah...

my story...

When I was a kid we had a computer, but not a desktop powerful think, we had this...I don't know mac? or old PC? That when you turned it on you had to press "Go" and the games name. I'm pretty sure. And most of the games were for little kids. Like a fire engine game where you go and rescue people. I could not be pulled away. Ever since, I've played most games on the computer.

Then we get to the NES. My grandparents had it. My grandmother could kick anyone's ass at Mario Bros. I'll tell you what. And I played a few mario games, the second zelda game, many others too.

Now my grandparents were nintendo fanboys. Next came the SNES and all its glory. I can not tell you how many times me my dad and my brother have played A Link to the Past. We would play it on saturdays start to finish to see how fast we could do it. Back then it was Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, all the classics.

I'd keep going but after that I would play any game that could hold my interest for more than ten minutes, regardless of platform. I've played games on everything from the PC to Nintendo, to the Playstation to the X Box, From the game Boy to the DS. (Yet never anything on the Dreamcast...Hm...) I have basically grown up on games, and I'm gonna watch how the continue to grow, and I'll make my kids grow up the same way, but start with classics, so the can respect where games have come from.

And that's it. I'm a Gamer, and I'm friggen proud of it

Back when I was younger, I played video games for fun. Now I play them for stress. I started out with a Sega Genesis and the Sonic collection (1-3, Knuckles, and Spinball) ordered from the home shopping network, Mortal Kombat, Spider-Man Maximum Carnage, and Eternal Champions which came with the system.

Gaming was at its prime for me during the N64/PS1 era since I was at that age where my parents would buy me every and any game. I started focusing more on RPGs and fighters during the PS2 era.

And now it seems I'm spending more money constantly having to buy a new 360 than buying games for it. Currently waiting for Mortal Kombat, the 9th sequel to one of the first games I owned so things are kind of coming full circle I suppose.

Duck hunt > Sega (mostly Bubsy and ren and stimpy) > PS > N64 > PS2 > Xbox > Computer Games > PsP > 360 > DS >DS Light > PS3
Right now I'm back and forth between 360, Pc Games, and the 360.

Like a lot of people my age, I started off with Super Mario Brothers (I think the cartridge also had Duck Hunt on it). Next was Zelda II, which seemed world-shakingly awesome to me at the time (but even I think that game is pretty bad now). I was a Zelda fanatic after that, though. My parents didn't like spending money on games, so I only had 3 systems (until I bought my own in college) with few games.

First was the NES:
-Super Mario Brothers (with Duck Hunt)
-Burger Time
-Shadowgate (and I hated this. It creeped me out. I still hate games that are even tangentially horror)
-Duck Tales (this was an awesome game)

Then the SEGA Game Gear (while all my friends had a Gameboy or, even better, a Gameboy color):
-Sonic 2
-X-Men
-The Lion King (Disney really used to do video games right)

And the Nintendo 64:
-Ocarina of Time
-Turok 2 (didn't like this one. I hated the gore)
-The World Is Not Enough
-Super Mario 64
-Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
-Donkey Kong 64 (still my all-time favorite platformer)
-Majora's Mask
-Major League Baseball featuring Ken Griffey Jr

Then I actually stopped playing games when I was a freshman in high school and didn't start back until I was a sophomore in college (my roommate had Knights of the Old Republic and the first Fable. Those got me back in). I "quit" again for a year or two (I just didn't have a system of my own) until 2007 or so.

Not a great gaming pedigree, but I've been making up for lost time and have been trying to expand my interests some.

I grew up with a sega master system when i was a kid, but the main reason why I'm a gamer today owes a lot to my uncle (who is only six years older than me).

He used to let me watch him play a lot of games from the nes, and amiga to the mega drive, and then to the playstation, and N64. I mostly just watched while he played, i even remember sitting down one time, and looking after his streets of rage game on pause, in case something went wrong.

The time when my uncle got a new fangled playstation, that's when i knew i was destined to love gaming for the rest of my life. Watching him play Tomb raider 2, and zero divide, i knew i wanted one so badly. I even ran away from home one time to go to my nan's place on the other side of town play with my uncle on his psone (i only got as far as the halfway point though hehe).

My wishes was answered however when on Christmas day 1998, i finally got my hands on a playstation, and a copy of tomb raider 3, also on the same Christmas i got a brand new pc with Age of empires 2, so that christmas was firmly edged into my mind as the best christmas i ever had.

As time went by, i swayed to nintendo, after playing Goldeneye, and the brilliant ocarina of time. I got my Nintendo 64 a bit late that others (2000), but when i played mario 64 for the first time, i knew i was in love. Its beautiful colourful graphics trumped the boring blocky grey playstation polygons i have been playing for the past three years. It delivered a experience that i haven't played on any other console. That's why i stuck to Nintendo by getting that lovely purple box, the Gamecube in 2002, and a nintendo wii in 2006.

I lived in ignorance, hating the playstation 2 for it's cheap looking hardware, and to my knowledge at the time dull looking games. My uncle was growing up, and growing out of the colourful nintendo games he once played (buying a xbox, and a ps2 instead of a gamecube), but i defended nintendo, and even if he told me overwise, it didn't sway my love for nintendo, and it's purple cube.

My love affair with Nintendo was not to last however, I was 18, and I just got out of rough patch in my life. Me only having a wii at the time, i tried, and tried again to love the games, but the nintendo spark just wasn't there anymore. It felt like the more i played my wii the more i felt as a long time fan that nintendo betrayed me with it's casual focus rather than a hardcore focus with all of it's much loved franchises.

I then made the decision to buy a xbox 360, and then i felt fun with games yet again. Gone was my ignorant ways, and in turn i was more open minded to gaming as a whole. I then traded my wii in for PS3. What at first became a painful regret, became one of the most wises purchase of my whole gaming life. Mainly because two of my 360's broke while my ps3 hasn't had a problem since i got it three years ago.

To make up for my ignorance as a teenager, i then went to buy all of the consoles i missed out on such as the ps2, dreamcast, and xbox. I Now have a very sizeable library of games on those consoles as well as my ps3.

My uncle still plays games, and i even recommended him to buy a PS3 as well. It feels like everything's come'd full circle now.

I started with Street Fighter at 4 and a week later my grandma bought me Pokemon Yellow.I've been playing Pokemon for like 11 or 12 years now. I've hardly evolved.

In my defense I can say that I have nearly two PC boxes full of 100s.

Holy shit, granny's garden!

That brings back a lot of good memories.

Fun fact: I was the only kid in my year who can get the old RM nimbus to switch on, and load the game.

My parents got a Sega Megadrive and Sonic the same day I was born so ive been playing games pretty much since I could hold the controller. We only had Sonic and some helicopter game on it though.

Later My uncle gave us his old Playstation and Crash Bandicoot so I ended up playing all of those games and other platformers such as Sonic and Croc. Then we got a PS2 and have played a ton of games on that and later a GameCube which got me hooked on Nintendo games such as Wind Waker and Metroid. I also had a GameBoy and Pokemon blue which I played almost non stop when ever we went away.

My dad also played FPS games on the computer such as COD 1 and 2 which I sometimes played on and now I pretty much play mostly games on the computer as the controls are easier and we have all modern consoles as family ones that I usually use to play exclusives.

So mostly Sonic and Crash Bandicoot.
