Thw first game I remember playing much was Myst, after that I got a PS1 and played console platformers and FPs's until around 2007 when I got more into PC games. In 2008 I played Fallout and since then nothing has quite compared, when I buy games now I'm just searching for something on par with Fallout.

From Timesplitters, to the Conflict: Desert Storm series, through to Crysis 2, with a liberal smattering of FIFA and racing games throughout.

1 - "Oh my god! The pictures move when I press the buttons!"
2 - "Wheeee! Explosions!"
3 - "Hang on, is this game trying to tell me a story? What the hell?! Shut up and give me more explosions. And breasts."
4 - "Huh. That game actually managed to elicit some trace of emotional response. Something is going on here."
5 - "Holy crap! This game is actually better then some books I've read. Nice!"
6 - "Urrg. Another fucking FPS? Another pandering alpha-male power fantasy? This gaming thing feels like searching for gold nuggets in a sewer."

So yeah. Maybe I was better off when I was giggling at the explosions. Then again, maybe that's like saying I was better off when I was three months old and only cared about eating and craping.

Either way, there's no going back now.
I love this post. Thinking about older games I played recently and I have to wonder how they managed to keep my attention sometimes.

Holy shit, granny's garden!

That brings back a lot of good memories.

Fun fact: I was the only kid in my year who can get the old RM nimbus to switch on, and load the game.
Heh, and you know the strangest thing? I don't remember if I ever completed it or not. I do recall there was a problem with the four dragons, and you having to work out what food each one liked... If memory serves, the creators popped up on a games show or something years later to say it was nigh on impossible, but I always thought I got past that bit...

RM Nimbus though... Bloody hell, we had those in my secondary school. Not that they were games powerhouses. Worm was about the limit. But they did have "L - A Mathemagical Adventure" on (anyone remember THAT?) and that little text based doozy got me into programming RM Basic, which has a lot to answer for considering my choice of career.

It's amazing when you think about it. These games that you could fit on a pocket calculator these days are responsible for so much...
