way to be helpful brah. Everyone thinks youre super cool because youre too good for black ops.

Try using the ak-74u or Famas
Also definitely try the different sights Iron vs Red dot vs reflex
use 3-5 round bursts with automatic weapons anything more and you are wasting rounds.
try out different game types, and hardcore.
Never rely on teammates to cover their sector, the only thing they are good for is knowing where not to go when the little green arrow disappears from your mini map. Also let them go first, always, so you know if there is an enemy on the room.

also a large part of success in these games is knowing the maps. Right now that means nothing to you. What you need to learn is which routes are high traffic(ie easy kills if you have a spot or instant death if you go rushing out like a tard)
which routes are over-watched( is there a 2nd floor window at the end of this road and lots of other places along the sides? dont go down there)
where the "safe area" ends (when you start there is about a 1/3rd of the map that will be relatively safe and as long as your team spawns there)

Lastly learn how to move. The road may be the easiest and quickest way to get to your objective but is it one of the high traffic areas or is it over-watched constantly? stay inside or in cover when possible only break cover to get to more cover. when going into a room where there might be people use a grenade. crouch often.

You just have to find a style that works for you. All of my weapons are suppressed and I use Ghost pro and Ninja pro along with Steady Aim pro.

Also, a big part of the game is anticipating what your opponent will do. If you see him run a certain way, think of where that leads on the map and cut him off.

Another thing is sound. I can't tell you how many times you'll save your own life if you actually listen to the background noise. You'll hear enemies' voices, weapons fire, and reloading quite clearly.

Lastly, the shortest straight line to the enemy is not always the best route. A longer travel time is worth the benefit you'll receive by getting behind the enemy.

My best suggest is to play low risk wager matches of Gun game or Sharpshooter. The constant cycling of guns means you get to try out everything until you find what works best for you. Of course you shouldn't go into the high end matches unless your godlike, but their are plenty of ultra chap matches that will basically be practice for you.

There is also combat training which lets you have any gun you want and you can just practice against the AI without fear of messing up either your stats or anything.

And yes, alot of tips you can give are common sense, you have to look at how belificial real tips are. Telling him, "Stay in cover" is common sense. Telling him, "Defend an area near your team to prevent flank attacks" is extreamly helpful. How many times does your entire team die because one dude walked all the way around the map so he could go on a knifing spree?

Theres always something useful you can tell someone. No matter how small the peice of information, you can still use it. It takes over 200,000 words to make up the english language. You dont have to know them all, but everyone you know helps.

Learn to anticipate spawn flips, UAV's can help this a lot, but on some maps you're simply gonna have to deal with the fact that at times, people will spawn behind you, really nothing you can do about it.

I'd recommend Ghost Perk, and the Galil with Suppressor, this keeps YOU off the radar at all times (except when a Blackbird is up) and lets you get the jump on people. Galil isn't too bad when it comes to recoil and the gun is a 40/30 gun, so 3-4 bullet kills.

Avoid running to doorways, this will often get you killed, whenever you approach a doorway, stop, look for movement inside and "clear" the room. In fact, you may want to avoid running entirely, I've found that when I don't run (walk instead), I do much better.

My recommended setup is Galil with Suppressor,. Ghost, Slight of Hand, Ninja. Semtex, Flashbangs, Claymores. If you don't want to go the Ghost/Silencer route, I'd recommend Hardline/Red Dot.

I'm by no means a god on the sticks, so personally, I use surprise and flanking tactics...along with a mild amount of camping (when I'm on a streak, or when its tactically appropriate) to earn good scores.

My K/D average is 1.60, rank 36, 2nd Prestige.

is a matter of luck sometimes, but here are my rules,
-- close quarter combat is fast paced, try to use a Smg or any other automatic, if u see an enemy dont zoom into you iron sight to shoot him right away, instead learn to shoot a burst (as reflex)
from hip and then quickly zoom in (sometimes that first couple rounds before you stop to aim can do the job) some of the best people dont even use the iron sights in close range, they just know where to shoot fast and keep moving

only with experience and said map you will be able to learn which paths have the most traffic during battle (is still highly depending of the motions of the battle) normally i rather avoid such paths .

i had the same problem with mw2 but it took like 2 weeks to get totally own face at it because is MW2 guns were different! in blakc ops all the gun are barly different by a smigde like the AUG and FAMAS the only difference is 1 accuracy point! i also get killed by people full auto with compleatly jumpy weapons like the GALIL at BIG BERTHA world war 1 artillary range (which was 11 miles, i think) but i normally just watch a bunch of youtube videos on machinama black ops and any other person who deosnt get killed by a weapon 500 times then uses that weapon and then gets killed by a different weapon 500 times and so on and so forth

Finding the right killstreak and perk combination can work wonders for you, no matter how long you've been playing.

Or you can just say "fuck it" and get hardline and just spam RC cars.

The trick to getting better at Black Ops is playing Mercenary TDM, this way, you won't be against any clans, just regular people without any friends (kind of like me). Now there are a few overpowered guns you can use to win.

AK 74u with either grip or rapid fire (or both, with the warlord perk)
M16. This gun is a tri burst gun of retardedness. Put a reflex sight on it, because reflex is more accurate on EVERY gun then the red dot sight. It's been tested and proven.

Or just play it a lot, and use counter UAV if you want to run and gun. It helps... alot.

The way that I got to 7th prestige (if no one believes me, look up Dr Tagg on XBL), is by putting on hardline, warlord, and marathon (hacker, if you are in search and destroy). On tdm, put on the lowest killstreaks and get some kills with a stupid gun. Or camp (which I NEVER go). Once you start getting those killstreaks, spam them, because the exp will fly by. Got from lvl 40 to next prestige with this setup, in only 5 hours.

Simple answer: play.

Less simple answer: find a gametype you're comfortable in, work on unlocking the higher up weapons, because most people find them better, and learn the maps. The last point is probably the most important though.

And yeah, if you still suck, then run Hardline and the RC Car. If you can't hold a 1 k/d doing that, then give up and play Monopoly.

if you go running throught the middle your gonna get gunned down like a ho ! ,

so what you do is stick to the sides yeah ? simple, and everytime you press the run button your putting yourself in a open position to get fucked over, so keep it to a minimum.

If you get killed a lot, perhaps watch the kill cams and see how people are killing you? You can pick up things on technique, note what weapons they use and the way they use it- and see what you ought to be doing to stop them killing you.

General rules:
1: Move quickly between areas of cover. As you move, quickly turn so as to glance down
any side corridors etc to prevent people from running up alongside you, outside of your vision, and killing you. Also check behind you quite frequently.
2: Learn how to move around the map via routes that will not get you seen/killed and thus outflank, meaning you can take a few enemy players by surprise.
3: Reflexes are important. The moment you notice an enemy, you need to be able to center those crosshairs on him, pull the trigger and possibly dropshot/ move toward cover all at the same time.
4: Pick guns/perks to suit you. Eg- A lot of people say 'use claymores' or grenades- but I find I always forget to use em. As I often find myself in situations where I need to reload, but dont have the time to, I equip a throwing knife (tomahawk?) instead. Ballistic knives are bloody good for this too, although they do seem to be the new noob tubes so im going to try and stop that...
5: Use cover effectively. Try and position yourself so that you can see the enemy, but they aren't easily able to see you. If you're looking out of a window, then stand back so as not to make yourself a silhouette. If no cover is available and someone pops up ready to fire, then drop to the floor.

KNOW THE MAP. Know all the popular camping spots, usual 'busy' areas, which places are usually deserted, which areas are exposed and where they are exposed from.

But then you have players that don't know that in the game and have their own agenda. That makes a lot of advice redundant. Sometimes it's impossible to not reload around a corner or defend a position because you'll eventually need a new clip and you'll always have weak links that die in their positions. Each match will bring about new problems that can't be dealt with internet advice, you only have seconds to decide whether you'll run back and help out or whether you'll stay and defend your position. What if everyone else is having the same thoughts? You can only deal with the problems as you encounter them.

I still maintain that the best advice would be to use your noggin and just play the game. I would hope that would be enough for the average person to play a game. If it isn't then I can expect a lot less challenging games and a lot more hour long tutorials.

Play alot, and get used to the guns: their rate of fire, damage, kickback, accuracy.
It also helps if you play with people that know what they are doing.

Whenever I play with randoms, and I don't have someone covering my back, I check absolutely every nook and cranny I pass so I don't get jumped by someone. And I still get jumped...

I'm probably the wrong person to ask since I really hate Bad Oops, but if you play alot skill should slowly come to you.
Also, map knowledge is key just like any FPS. If you know the maps inside and out, you've won half the fight.

I have a youtube page and when you have access to your plays like that you notice when you're doing something right. I now don't tend to go negative, the way I got better was making good decisions and learning as I played. Firstly work on using cover, as most people find it hard pulling off consistent head shots they'll hit your cover if they shoot at you and you'll have a bigger target. Secondly classes do matter, no one gun will get you through ever fight. An SMG will win 9/10 in close range vs an AR but at range you'd may as well be insulting their mothers. Right tool for the job, and drop snipers/shottys. Navigate the map carefully. Don't stay in one place too long and when you set up to watch somewhere cover your ass with a friend or a claymore. Stay away from where they spawn use you're map to figure out where that is and if your friends all move away from you move soon spawns will shift fast. Finally make sure you try to fight on your terms disadvantage them, stuns, flash, jammers motion sensors and decoys will help here. I like using hacker blowing up claymores so they get alerted then picking them off from out of sight when they check the claymores.
And don't sprint except after spawning becuase it leads to you dying a lot.

Play a lot, and stick to objective modes. Your deaths won't affect the teams' score directly, and enemies will focus on the objectives instead of just killing you. Try different perk weapon combos, see what works for you, and what doesn't. If you can't snipe, don't. If you're good with a shotgun, use shotgun.

I tend to play a rush game, with SMGs, speed related perks, and lots of kniving.

Yes, I am one of those people who used Commando on every class.

Bots could help, but I haven't gotten Black Ops yet. These are just general CoD tips, assuming BO is the same as the last 3 games.
