How do people deal with console FPSes over PC ones?

I've come to this conclusion: everyone has the same handicap as you. Therefore, it does not matter if your aim is apparently worse on a controller, because it is for everyone else too.

It's called not being a little ***** and sucking it up. People give console shooters so much shit because you're not using a mouse. That's kinda the point of a console fps, to give a different experience to a PC version of the game, yet I always hear people bagging console shooters because it's harder than they want.

It's not that hard people, it just takes practice.
You need practice on the PC, too and you even have a higher skill ceiling - it's not just about being harder.
It kinda seems that a lot of 'console only' players get the feeling they get attacked by these discussions and have to ***** about it to defend their platform...

I wasn't saying it's harder, I was saying that's what I've heard PC elitists say about console fps'.

What I am saying is that you don't get any higher of a skill ceiling on PC than you do on console, because it's a completely different control setup.
For example, take an expert PC CoD player and an expert console CoD player, put them both on a pc against each other and the PC player will cream the console player.
Likewise, put them both on a console against one another and the CP player will be demolished by the console gamer.
Trust me, it's true. I've had a lot of experience with it since my friend and I play the same games (Rainbow 6 Vegas and R6V2) but I play on console and he plays on PC.

I use my laptop for music, writing, and the internet. That's about it. It cost me a grand...

...but they cost a good deal less than a high-end gaming PC.
You make good points that I agree with but I just wanted to point out I bought a gaming PC that can run anything I throw at it in it's stride on max, and it was £500 compared to £1000 for your laptop. So you don't need to spend a fuck ton more, half what you spent on just a web browsing laptop.

I agree it's more expensive than a console but you make it back if you buy a lot of new games, new PC games start £10-15 cheaper than new console games, and that more than adds up quickly. That combined with some ridiculous STEAM sales (GTA 4 with expansions for £6 recently) and Amazon's cheaper PC game prices the cost issues are rendered irelevant. The PC will pay back for itself with the much cheaper games.

Obviously every other possible factor is basically personal preference so I never get involved with that as I understand people like what they like, I used to much prefer Xbox infact but I digress, I just can't people stand bringing up the cost argument anymore. PC game price differences really balance it out in a pretty short time span, especially new game prices, it's at the point you can get new games for the price of console second hand ones with, in my experience, less hassle.

And since this thread is actually about FPS games, I personally prefer PC. I used to play CoD competively on the Xbox but I grew tired of FPS on it, but I have fallen in love with FPS again since gaining my PC, Borderlands and Battlefield BC2 are so much better for ME on the PC.

Some people don't want to deal with all the technical aspects that come with PC Gaming. Some people also like the Controller more than the mouse and keyboard, like myself. Fuck using a mouse and keyboard.

I like my Rpg's on the PC. I like my shooters on my PS3. I have no problem with movement and looking and aiming with 2 analogues it feels natural to me. Im not entirely sure why PC gamers tend to be elitist scumbags sometimes, i understand that it takes EPIC amounts of skill to 'point'and'click' your mouse&cursor at a target *rollseyes*, but thats no reason to look down on the console massive.

I don't play games for the "pinpoint accuracy" without auto-aim. I play for fun! This is a concept many people seem to have forgotten.

I get a 1.8k/d I have fun and do well, I don't give a shit if consoles have more auto-aim than PC's, like that matters anyway! I can still play the game perfectly well.

Why the fuck does everything now have to be competition, like Console vs. PC, just sit down and have fun for gods sake...

I prefer consoles. Mouses feel completely unnatural to me, the trigger mechanism feels better with the console though the analogue control is about as unnatural as the mouse.

That said, your inability to hit stuff is more telling of your skill. It's not hard...

I too fail to see the elitism having any real reason. I play on both, imo it feels better on console. In yours it feels better on PC. And?

In a level playing field (ie: perhaps a competition), nothing beats the efficiency of speed of the mouse keyboard combo. Anything else is inferior. The only problem of course is the fuck-bags on the system who ruin it for everyone else.

Console = The loud obnoxious assholes.
PC = The 1337 hackers (said with maximum sarcasm).

I'm actually installing COD4 on my PC right now. Every COD I've played has always infuriated me on consoles. On PC? Even with the hackers? Not so much.

As for everyone saying 'at least a controller has a trigger derp' it's just a fucking button like any else. Is that really worth talking about? Also, console gamers who think the large TV trumps PC, well clearly you aren't a gamer... it isn't about how pretty it is. It's about the GAME part of the game.

No, I'm not an elitist, I have every console there is and love them. FPS is made for PC though.

I'm pretty comfortable playing FPS's on console or PC, I'd prefer a mouse over a controller but I've found myself using a wired 360 controller for some games that provide support for it, like resident evil 5 and also borderlands. I'll probably stick with the mouse for more competitive games, like cod or cs

I'm the other way around, I've largely been a console player for years and recently tried some games on Steam. I literally cannot figure out how to do it. How do you turn around quickly? It took me ages to get even close to competent with WASD and I couldn't aim for crap. I know aiming is assisted on consoles, and I'm fine with that. I'm not the best FPS player in the world, so I'll take that help. Because I know if I had it on PC I'd still suck due to the keyboard and mouse.

I prefer console FPS for two reasons.

Firstly, I don't have to worry about hardware for the new game. So when I want to play something new, I just put in the disk and go. Simple ease of use.

Secondly, I have a heap of fond memories playing 4-player split-screen halo 2 randoms. So I automatically have that positive association with shooters on a console.

And besides, I always play on maximum sensitivity, so when I want to be looking somewhere, I usually am. So the whole mouse benefit was kind of moot to me.

and thats why my 360 controller is by razer...same as my mouse and keyboard, they're all so bloody good. each cost about $100 (a little over $300 all up) and all give me a great gaming experience, whether on console or pc.

You have to play differently on a console.
It is easier to keep your cross-hairs dead centre and you strafe etc to get the cross-hairs to land on someone.

I've never had any problems hitting my targets on a console.

Started playing some PC shooters awhile back and I really don't like the mouse keyboard controls.

I myself own only a PC and thus only play PC games. I remember my first thought when I heard of FPS on a console "Really? Who could've possibly thought this was a good idea?". Interestingly enough I'm pretty good at racing games on them consoles even though I very rarely (probably less than once a year) play racing games. Want to make a trailer with smooth movement and movie like motion? Use sticks. Want to be able to aim quickly and precisly? Use mouse.

A friend of mine prefers FPS's with K&M but he rather gets the newer games on his PS3 (occasionally 360, he has both) because he doesn't want any fps drops. I have played split-screen with him a couple of times and my aim is ALL OVER the place. The only way I can hit something is if they stand still and/or doesn't move vertically. That way I can just strafe sideways and fire whenever the aim is on the enemy. He is about average. He can hit things but only he gets somewhere in the middle of score.

One thing I think game devs should do with console FPS is to remove any aim assists and such. I think it's one of the reasons some fellow PC people think that console FPS is lame. And in a way I agree.

Oh, and a 'fun' fact: In sweden, "mouse" can be used the same way as "pussy" can be used in english countries. Which has occasionally caused a laugh when said that I prefer the mouse instead of some sticks.

I usually play on max sensitivity on a controller and can 180 spin and shoot people in the face, its certainly not as accurate as a mouse but I can still dominate with a controller.

Once upon a time, I legitimately thought I hated FPS games. I only played CoD4 on my 360 and I can only remember how frustrating it was. Not only were the people complete assholes, but I could never hit anything to save my life, excluding maybe with a rocket launcher. When I played my first FPS on the PC with a keyboard and mouse, it was an eye opening experience. I could point my crosshair towards what I wanted to hit and my bullets would actually make contact! Granted, I'm not claiming to be the best PC gamer ever, but my mind explodes whenever I hear someone say they prefer to play a FPS with a controller. To me, the pinpoint accuracy of a mouse is infinitely superior to whatever little aim you can attain with a controller's right analog stick. Can someone explain to me how people play these types of games with a controller?
"My mind explodes."

You must spend a lot of time Humpty-Dumptying your head. Well, prepare for one more brain explosion, because...

I prefer console FPSs to PC. The "pinpoint" accuracy of mouse/keyboard requires the player to acclimate their self to a setup that is unwieldy for gaming, and is also unrealistic to the point of being superhuman. Console FPSs move the way that human beings move, not The Flash.
