How do we get Michael Bay to make a Warhammer 40k Movie ?

I get that Michael Bay gets a lot of flak for his "Military fetish", shoving overly manly Soldiers and military Hardware into his movies whenever he can.

He might not be the most sofisticated director of our time, but his Blockbusters sell - Big time.
Even if the Critics growl and squirm when he takes a perfectly good IP like Transformers and bends it as much as he can to show the things he loves the most - his audience( and the box office) is behind his style.

Now why don't we give him something that plays to his strenghts AND satisfies the Geeks ? Something like Warhammer 40k ?

I believe it would be a match made in heaven : A universe full of testosterone filled Ubersoldiers, grand effects and epic battles with epic warmachines on epic stages.

THQs Dawn of War series and the upcoming release of Spacemarine worked the ground for an interest in the Universe among gamers and newcomers to the series would not need to know much more then "There is only war" to enjoy a 120 minute effect fest about a band of valiant Imperial Guards fighting with heroic Space Marines against Chaos / Orks / Tyranids or whatever.

We have the technology, we have the audience - so how do we get somebody like Bay to finally DO it ?

Trouble is, we'd see a young male protagonist trying to get with an attractive female protagonist with a mediocre plot that stretches way too long, and only then would we get the big-time battles and explosions.

No thanks.

I have no real knowledge about warhammer 40K, but even I am able to understand what a bad idea that would be. Don't let Michael Bay near game-to-movie adaptations.

If you could actually get Bay to stick to what 40K is about, under threat of death, I think it would actually be not a bad idea. Problem being, Bay's script can't stick to anything source material for more than 20 minutes.

It's kinda sad how the director takes credit for the works of an entire creative staff.

But since they are: I don't really want to see another Bay movie after watching Transformers 2 and the Twins.

@gCrusher: You just KNOW he'd make the humans plot too long and tepid, like TF1, before we get to the action. 20-odd minutes with Jerks becomes, in a Michael Bay movie, just awful.

I would rather someone who cared about the subject matter made a great movie that nobody saw than to have a hack make a movie about explosions loosely related to the subject matter that made a billion in the box office.

Gah, we already have a Michael Bay equivalent in Game's Workshop, he's called Matt Ward. Seriously, a good 40K movie would need to be about subtlety and characterisation to be vaguely interesting. There's so much interesting stuff to explore in the 40K universe, it really doesn't need to be another one of the dozens of big flashy CGI-heavy-everything-explodes films.

Why would anyone let Michael Bay anywhere near something they liked?

I can't imagine watching the Shia LeBeouf-de-jour's inane girl troubles getting any more bearable because the forces of Chaos assail a Space Marine fortress in the background.

Well firstly, even among nerds, Warhammer 40K is a pretty damn niche thing.

But cast that aside and basically its a terrible idea from start to finish -- Bay would never do it anyway, if he did it would suck, a Warhammer 40K film would definitely be a piece of crap (and don't babble on about its "rich lore". How the fuck is that going to be put across in a mindless Michael Bay action film aimed at, well, there's the next issue... The Demographic. A film like this would have to be aimed squarely at "the Bros". 'cept, they won't want to watch it because unlike Transformers, which at least at some point was cool (when they were kids), Warhammer has never, EVER been cool. In fact, its pretty much one the least cool things in the world.
I genuinely struggle to think of things less cool than Warhammer 40K, and thus, the Bros would never, ever take to this hypothetical film.

TL;DR:
Your idea is terrible. A warhammer 40K movie would suck and Bay would make it worse

Micheal Bay is a hack and I personally think the world would be a better place if he never made another move again... ever.

Oh yeah, Michael Bay would be SO horrible. Instead shall we let Uwe Boll do it?

Maybe Bay has a screw loose somewhere regarding plots, but at least he HAS screws. I don't think WH 40k should ever be put in live-action picture, but Michael Bay is FAR from the worst choice.

"Heroic Space Marines"? Are we talking about the same 40k universe here?
Space Marines are easily amongst the biggest assholes in the entire universe and that's really saying something.

You know, despite its inherent silliness, even Warhammer 40000 is capable of having depth beyond the Capacity of Michael Bay.

Do you want to see him rape Gaunt's Ghosts? DO YOU!?
