Easy i disconnect myself by stopping theimmersion process by a) having a friend or b) turing on the TV and turning it up. Dont newed it that often. I HATE hights, but can surprisingly stand it in games a hell of a lot eaier especially in prototype seing as you are invincible from it.

I force myself past the section and sprint if I can.

Unless its water. It could be the best game of all time, the second I need to go in water I immediately quit and never play again.

Fear? that's what my SHOTGUN is for!

So called "scary" games can make me jump a little but no more than that, being startled at those cheap ass pop-out-and-go-boo scares and actually building a sense of fear in a person are different matters entirely. however as a kid I couldn't play ocarina of time for 5 months because I got stuck out in Hyrule Field, heh. that's the only time I've ever been truly AFRAID of something in a game... that is until Dark Souls came out.

I wont spoil anything major but if you want absolutely no plot details then skip the next paragraph, you've been warned.

OK so after you get one of a pair of certain major milestones early on in the game and go back to the central hub area, then walk into the large pool of water you would probably notice that someone is snoring ABSURDLY loud. but upon searching the area you find no new characters, and only one person making a passing mention of the noise giving him a headache. so you move on and eventually get that 2nd big milestone, go back to the shrine, go up to the pool and see that in place of the water is a massive gaping hole in the ground with a GIANT head protruding out.

Now I wont post a picture in fear of mod wrath but the way this thing looks just freaked me the hell out on some subliminal level. not even really sure why, might be the neck. also the fact that it's so well spoken kinda weirded me out too...

If a game manages to scare me, a proper scare, not some jump-scare reaction BS... I'm pretty much guaranteed to love it :p

In reality though, huge fear of falling, huge fear of the uncertainty surrounding death, both things I do NOT want to get stuck thinking about at 1AM...

But yeah, if you don't want to be afraid in a game:

I used to have nightmares about zombie invasions. After playing L4D those nightmares turned into epic dreams about mowing down zombie hordes.

I am and always have been scared of stinging insects i.e. wasps etc. For me, finishing Limbo was really tough because of the wasp scenes... I eventually finished but I was paranoid of any buzzing sound after that.

Well it doesn't really matter what my fears are... if a game is good like Twilight Princess for example... I'm not myself, I'm the character in the game who isn't afraid of spiders or whatever...<.<

When I was younger, I abused a glitch on a certain horror game to overcome my fears. Later, I got over it and just played the game like it was meant to be played. As long as I kept my nerves from seizing up and knowing the control mechanics, the fear would become less of a hindrance and more of a piece of gameplay experience.

I'm scared of dogs but this is normally no problem whilst gaming. In most games dogs are just fast melee types who you just gun down without too muc thought. But I do remember a few of the eary resident evil games scared me with the use of dogs. its the barking that gets to me, puts me on edge and resident evil already put me on edge as thats what the game does.

So the fear from resident evil + my fear of dogs + zombie dogs = failed fear test and a fled 2d6(warhammer reference).

Had just to get through any dog bits, but they were not fun. Most of the game was a scared fun using the adrenaline of the fear to enjoy myself, any dogs bits were simply just actual fear and I don't enjoy actual fear.

I've played Amnesia, which to my opinion is the scariest game ever created. I found that surprisingly, removing the headphones completely neutralizes the game's impact...

Rarely gotten scared in games.
But if they ever put a dentist in a video game, i would probably play the game with closed eyes whenever theres a dentist scene.
Lets be honest here, that would be the shittest game ever.

when a game is scaring me and I want to get through it, I close my eyes, take a few deep breaths to calm my nerves...

Then take a few more while hyping myself up, and then I say a phrase Yatzee once said "This. Shit. Will. Not. Beat. ME!", and then I power through it.

So far, the only game it hasn't worked on is Amnesia. >_< I guess my resistance to horror games hasn't gotten good enough yet.

Play through it, squinting at the screen and looking away as much as I can.

In oblivion I used to turn down the difficulty slider as soon as I saw a spider daedra, but the worst one had to be the third (2nd?) world in Darkstalkers- I finished that whole area in about an hour or less, skipping over most of the secrets and just speed running, whilst I finished it my dreams that night were horrific.

Thing is Ive never been able to work out what it is about game spiders that bother me, when they're in the house its a simple case of a dropped shoe, hoover or glass and paper but in games Im downright horrified.
Silly irrational phobias are silly and irrational.

like many of you i cannot wait for Skyrim im trying to know as little about the game as possible so i enjoy it more by exploration means. Anyway when i watched the original trailer there was something that me and many others were made quite upset.

im talking about 'Spider's' i am FUCKING SCARED OF SPIDERS. i couldn't beat Twilight princess due to that bloody spider and the worse part was how they fell from the ceiling.

Forest temple: cool this will be fun dum dun dum oh look a big room [walks forward] Spider: 'SUP BRO'. Trezu has Fainted.

anyway i have decided that everyday i will look up screen shots of Skyrim Spiders in till im not scared of them. when i see him i cover my eyes but covering your eyes is alright when u have a machine gun, but a sword nope.

in the hopes that i get over my fear of Giant Spiders in games, but i still hope that Spider's won't be a frequent enemy in skyrim.

Also what is your fear and how do you deal with it when you play a video game?

Only one question, are you serious?
You want us to believe that you are afraid of a set of pixels on your screen? Interessting idea to stir up a strange debate I give you that.

Please work on your spelling and grammar. Thanks! -Mod

The thing that I am dreadfully afraid of isn't seen in video games too often. When it is though it's normally too stupid looking to scare me. If it was to look real and make the movements then I would probably scream. Then kill it with fire. I'm not going to state what it is because I'm embarrassed about it. :<

I did stop playing Monster Hunter because of the raptors and wyverns.

I'm not really scared of anything to the degree it'd prevent me from doing something. This carries over into games because there's absolutely no chance anything from a game could hurt me or come into contact with me in any way.

Closest I can get to the feeling would be when I'm exploring a particularly creepy setting in a game. I just sort of push through for the sake of getting the fuck out of there. It's what I'd do in real life, so that's how I handle it in games.

Just remember that you're killing the spiders in the games, and imagine yourself triumphing over them in the same way. Especially because they're huge in games and there's no spiders in the world that are bigger than a human being. At least that I know of..

.. if there are then I'm afraid of those.

Well I'm scared of spiders and deep murky water(because of the idea of giant fish coming to eat me).

Deep murky water though. I normally avoid it if I can but if forced I will be cautious. As son as I see any kind of fish in the gloom I will practically panic and swim for my life.
I just have to stay calm.
OMIGAWD I have that EXACT same fear; big creatures in the water... in video games. I know it's absurdly irrational, but the thought of being helpless in the water when something giant wants to come insta-kill me just terrifies me.

However, I recently played a game where a part of it WAS in the water, and not only were there no huge creatures in the water, but I could also use my sword to fight them just like if I were on land. xD That really helped, HOWEVER...

Yeah, I do what you do and swim like hell and hope I can out-swim them.
