How do you feel about Textese?

I'm writing a report on the use of text speak in real life and wanted some peoples opinions, so: Do you use text speak off the internet or your cellphone?
And how do you feel about people who do?
Do you have any anecdotes about the use of text speak? And if so, tell me about it.

Any opinions would be welcome

I always feel horribly when using text speak, even when texting. I have a keyboard on both my phone and computer so writing out the full word and such isn't too much of a hassle and more respectful to my reader.

I don't even use text speech in my texts, I hate it when people do, as it usually leads to miscommunications, and I like people to know what I'm saying.
I'm just waiting for the day when they let you add tone to your text, that way they know it's sarcasm and not just me being an ass.

Considering that most phones nowadays no longer have character limits on texts, it shouldn't fucking exist any more! It was only created to fit more in a small space. With the exception of Twitter, nothing as far as I know has such a small character limit that shortening words is ever needed.

I think that it was also created to save time, but also texts do have character limits, if you go over 140 characters it counts as two texts, at least that's how it is on my service.

I don't really understand textese it always leaves me confused and it takes me a couple of seconds to decipher it so I never really use it, though it's not like I have someone to send a message to.

I hate it with a fiery passion. I don't even use it in my texts unless I need to cut down my character count to fit it as one text message, and even then it is more about cutting out extraneous letters than using textese.

I try to avoid it myself. If I can understand the meaning trying to be conveyed in the text, I'm good.

However.

Outside of texts I will and have bugged friends about it. I don't like seeing the English language butchered up more than it already is.

I love it when people don't say 'lol' in real-life. You're either laughing, or not laughing. If you really want to express your joy in whatever you heard, tell the person that 'that was funny.'

For the most part, it makes my skin crawl. When it's used against me, I try to give the offender the benefit of the doubt and assume they're using a bare-bones phone without a full keyboard. That's annoying enough to use to justify taking all the shortcuts you can.
On the internet, there is no excuse. While I try to avoid leaping to judgey conclusions, it just gives the impression of not being the sharpest pencil in the box.

Of course, this applies if you're talking about using numbers for words and such, which only Prince is allowed to do. Smileys are okay in moderation.

I very rarely use text speak when typing (cell phone or otherwise), except for things such as "brb" or "lol". When I'm not typing, I will frequently use text speak in a more ironic manner, like saying "lawl" when someone says something that is obviously not funny.

I can understand textese in a text message sent from a non-qwerty cell phone. I can sympathize with not wanting to sift through all those letters when you have to press a button three times to get the letter you want. But on the internet, I despise it!

Is it really to much trouble to add "y" and "o" to "u"? Same thing with "ur".

Sigh ... I hate textese! >_<

I think its stupid. Ever since I got my first phone back in 10th grade, I used full and proper grammar. With a standard keypad. All it takes is a little more effort.
