Considering that most phones nowadays no longer have character limits on texts, it shouldn't fucking exist any more! It was only created to fit more in a small space. With the exception of Twitter, nothing as far as I know has such a small character limit that shortening words is ever needed.
Like I said in my post, I can forgive it if it's from a cell phone without the keyboard setup, because having to press a button three or four times to get the letter you want is a pain in the friggin' ass. However, if they have a phone with a qwerty keypad, they have no excuse for their spelling/grammar problems.

Oh well, at least you can usually identify trolls because they use textese, so I guess it's good for that! :)

If anyone uses "textese" in my presence, they best walk in the opposite direction to where I'm going, after they've run an ultra-marathon in such a direction.

since i've been actively engaging in the internet it has become second nature for me to shout out "lol" when something is funny
also the occasional "ftw" is heard from me

for some it's weird but most people understand

Following a phone call that did not have very good reception, I received this text message.

"That signal was rubbish on both sides i think nyway hope u both ok just 2 let u no we r away nxt week gng 2 devon 4 complete chill i hope b4 bak 2 wk on 5th wil fone u sumtime nxt week tak carexx"

The translation is as follows

" That signal was rubbish on both sides I think. Anyway, I hope you are both ok. Just to let you know, we are away next week we are going to devon for a complete chill before going back to work on the 5th. I will phone you sometime next week. Take care xx"

The perpetrator of the appaling text message ? My 62 year old mother who loves English but in text form spells thought as thote, enjoyed without using the letter e,and later without the use of any vowels. so three distinct ways of writing all in one text.

I think that it was also created to save time, but also texts do have character limits, if you go over 140 characters it counts as two texts, at least that's how it is on my service.
This is why I love having free unlimited texts for 20 euro a month.

Nobody in Ireland is allowed to use the "it counts as two texts" nonsense.

I don't know what "Textese" is, honestly. I've never had a cellphone or any mobile phone of any kind, never needed one. I can't stand when people shred grammar and spelling, there's no excuse for such an...Appalling use of words. I myself only have a grade eight education, but you don't see ME writing like a half-dead chimp, now do you?

The only time I ever use it is in combination with leet and intentionally misspelled words to mock someone who's either trolling or obviously unintelligent. I think the whole textese thing is idiotic, and I'm just waiting for the day some prodigy of stupidity manages to shorten the word I. I don't have any anecdotes concerning it though.

Entirely pointless in the days of free texts. I hate it. If you can't text quickly at this stage... you're 40+. If you can't be bothered to spell and use proper grammar... I will judge you.

I despise it with every fiber of my being. I find it tacky and grating. It takes a lot of effort not to comment on the atrocity that is every facebook status littered with the stuff.

I want you to know that your willingness to use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation fills my heart with joy. I like you. And I agree about the half-dead chimp thing.

It honestly doesn't bother me. One of my friends is a genius, but he just can't read, write and spell all that great, and whenever I get a message from him it's full of U's and lol's despite the fact that he souns very intelligent in person.

I don't own a mobile phone so i'm safe from it there.

Any e-mails I get typed out like that get instantly deleted.

I was in an MSN chat with one of my neices who's getting married next year and one of her younger sisters, a smaller neice (seriously there are 3 of them and they are in height order it's amusing) came on and started chatting to me in code so I logged out.

I play MMO's and anyone who talks to me who can't be arsed to type out a full sentence gets ignored. If they can't be arsed then I can't be arsed replying.

My brother in law runs his own business and he's had CV's written out like that and he just screws them up and bins them.

It's fine in context, space limitations and all that BS. It's forgiveable in certain chat systems, for the same reason. Where there's room to type, it's just stupid, and as part of regular speech, absolutely not.

Ah! My brother (Sister?), I shall gladly accept you into my entourage. Come! We shall fly away on ponies made of sugar and hope!

I'll admit, I'm not perfect with my spelling etiquette. Ah! See? I just misspelled "Etiquette" as "Ettiquette". Alas, I am glad to know that I have been a blissful ray of hope in this never-ending see of trolls and bloggers. Don't forget kids, always carry your flameshield!

HA! Oh, wow. What? My captcha was "text chiece". That...was one of the easiest ones that I have ever seen.

I try not to use it at all! I'll use abbreviations and acronyms that are generally accepted or known by the person i'm texting but thats it. I do spell some things in a more colloquial way such as "dunno" and "gonna" and I say them too but thats about it. Even when I do these things I still make sure everything makes grammatical sense!

Ten-key cellphone texting has created an abomination, as far as I'm concerned. I never used text messages until I could get a qwerty keyboard on my phone, and I type the way I speak. Not always grammatically correct, but always using whole words.
