I, like your girlfriend, am terrified of zombies. I also think they get overused but really what doesn't these days. It's almost impossible to come up with an original idea anymore.

So my point is I have no problem with zombies...

I really like zombies, but I feel that aside from some exceptions, there arent many "good" zombie movies, that take the subject somewhat "seriously". The Resident Evil movies for example are rubbish and Romero only seems to decline further (gotta see survival first before making a final decision). Unfortunately I havent seen "The Walking Dead" and cannot until it comes out on DVD or Hulu/AMC is available in my parts of the world.

But I fear they are being overused nowadays what will cause an oversaturation.

I've always liked zombies. I think the relentless, overwhelming nature of them makes them truly scary, and the fact that you're one stray bite away from having to pop a cap in your own mother's head makes them truly disturbing.

Obviously zombification doesn't make much sense, because zombification only happens if the zombies bite you but then don't eat you, which is a terrible design flaw.

But still.

I was going to exmaine whether the resurgence of the zombie genre could be a reflection of the West's paranoia at being the target of growing violent extremism in the Muslim world - a metaphor in the same way that the Godzilla films were a response to Hiroshima and Nagasaki - but then I realised that this would be just too pretentious.

Gruurrgh! Brains!

On the other hand, all you need to make a zombie flick look good are a few dozen friends, some shitty ripped clothes and some of that darkener stuff in various colours that you can get from a $2 shop. Zombies are GFC-friendly.
I agree, at least concerning B-Movies and Fan-Stuff. There was some british amateur series that had cheap but effective zombies. I just wanted to point out, though, that for bigger productions, making convincing Make-Up, etc. can take tons of time and money, especially when you have like a hundred extras with face make-up. The Making Of of Zack Snyders Dawn of Dead showed that very well.

From what I've heard from friends who've seen it, it's more a character drama than a zombie "thing". The zombies just happen to be the danger that has thrown the characters together and forced them to co-operate with one another.

I like zombies but the TV producers also know that so they are milking it for the money.

I don't mind zombies. They're enemies who can be killed without people going "OMG teaching our children to kill other people etc. etc."

That said, there seems to be a flood of things with zombies lately. Is it a sign of things to come?

...

I'll get the boomstick.
Mind if I join? I'll bring enough guns and ammo for me and 4 other people XD.

Fucking hate them. Sick of the zombie obsession. Never liked it when it started...

The only time I don't mind zombies is when I'm in a crypt in an RPG hunting for phat loot.

I'm not huge on them, but they make for fun enemies sometimes.

They're overplayed right now, but that'll pass.

I gather I'm alone in this.
Nope, I enjoy how they've influenced media lately as well.

I still laugh whenever I see the Red Dead Undead commercial asking Marston to 'cover his back while he walks down a dark deserted street'.

Maybe I'm just some kinda media hermit, but I have not seen any TV shows or any more movies (than what's usual) based on zombies.

I'm starting to think it's just people who are interested in zombies more, not the media.
