I feel personally hurt and violated, and I vow bloody vengeance. Brootal Legend is the zenith of interactive story telling and if he doesn't care to change his mind I'll bring a wrench and pliers and I'll change it for him. I hold similar sentiments towards Michael Phillips and A.O. Scott with regards to Boondock Saints 2 and they're in Chicago, only two states away. BETTER BUY A HELMET, QUEERS!

But seriously, folks, you watch reviews to be informed, not to be agreed with. I was expecting Yahtzee to take down Brutal Legend and I'm surprised he wasn't harder on it.

Hating is funny. Complementing isn't. Yahtzee is a Comedian/Critic, not just a critic. Whenever he reviews a game that i like, i don't expect him to praise it, just make fun of all the idiotic things that the developers implemented into the game, no matter how small.

Yahtzee has a lot of common likes with me, so if he likes a game, I usually end up liking it. If he hates it, 50/50 to whether I like it or not.

just pondering how people react
Red pill or blue pill?

It comes down to how often I want to know about the cardboard horse's shadow cavorting before me?

Often, I feel validated. It's nice to know that other people hate what I hate. Like Resident Evil 5.

In a few cases, I wonder about titles I enjoyed. Take his review of Dead Space for example: The gameplay offered me what I wanted: Resident Evil 4 Plus. The story was more or less what I expected, if devoid of real characters, but his comments about the game's derivative nature lead me to wonder exactly how derivative it really was. Would the game stand on its own two feet WITHOUT knowing all the source material? Seems like it could. Having seen much of Dead Space's inspiration material, I didn't feel that it came as close to plagiarizing as Yahtzee suggested. Rather, it was a gripping (but imperfect) pastiche of the space horror story.

I dont mind the way Yahtzee reviews games, quite honestly I think most of the time he has a fair point and deserves to be taken seriously. I find that alot of the points he makes are at the very least valid if slightly overexagerated. The games he "likes" and by likes I mean didnt absolutely hates are always worth the money, and do to a point, influence whether I buy a certain game or not. People should stop worrying about whether he likes it or not - thats an opinion... I didnt like Call of Duty 4, lots of other people do. What people should listen to is what he actually has to say about the game and then base their decision on whether they can live with shoddy wii controls or a game with a short campaign.

I suck it up and laugh along, because alot of the things he says are true. I absolutely loved bioshock, but that does not change anything just because he doesn't like it.

I would probably think "Hey, Yahtzee doesn't like the game I like. Hm." And then get on with my life.

Who cares? Yahtzee has stated himself that people do not like it when he compliments a game so he has no choice but to exaggerate or make up flaws for entertainment purposes. So even games he likes he has to rip to shreds. It is his job.
So far, of all the games I've played and he's reviewed, he hasn't "made up" any flaws.
It's just that they weren't game breakers, much like what he said in his review of AssCreed2.

Whether Yahtzee likes a game or not is beside the point to me. I watch his reviews because they're entertaining not to find out whether I should buy a game or not.

To be honest. That has never happened to me so far. What I usually do 2/3 of the time is wait till he reviews and make a decision as to whether or not the things wrong with the game will hamper my enjoyment of it.

I'm aware that he's usually just taking the piss and sometimes he points out a few flaws I agree with. On the other hand, I usually disagree or the things he hates about said game I love. Weird isn't it?

I look down, but then I think "He's right, Thats really how the game is" then I play it anyway, because as entertaining and correct as his oppinions are, I don't really care heads nor tails what he thinks of my favorite no-necked sepia toned, roidfest of knee high walls.

I don't mind it. I know he hates just about everything so its all good. Besides if he entertains me then I even enjoy him destroying my favorite games.
