Do you really think it will be so different?
Look back at what we THOUGHT we would be doing in the 70's and 80's, flying cars, robotics and cybernetics, colonization of the Moon. What have we got of those? None..
Are we even close?
Hove cars? I've seen some prototypes in the last 10 years.. but given the law of product introduction to the market to common usage, we're not even talking 2100 before thats standard.
Cybernetics? We cant even make robots that look human enough, let alone attach them to the body, and as for understanding the human brain enough to connect it to thought patterns to control said arm? hmm... not much development there either.
Moon/Spacestations...
In 1969 America put a man on the moon, ONLY to beat the russians.. Since then the costs are far too prohibitive to even bother further. I doubt we'll see space stations with living quarters for anyone thats not directly related to the space industry, or uber rich, until 2100 as well..
So, What DO we do.. Electronic entertainment is taking off, with 3DHDTV combined with the reducing costs in VR and reduced costs in twin screen developments in computers, I can arguably say that the idea of a immersive computer environment, not unlike Tad Williams future(Otherworld) could be describing..
So, in the next 20 years, I can see that In home TV environments will be immersive, More people will work from home.. Who needs to rent out office space for workers if the worker can VR interact and do the job from their own place..
Sales people will still have offices, meetings, Board-rooms, travel expenses and show events, but general public will less likely to leave home..
Products will be delivered more and more.. Retails shops will close, Etail shops will take over. Multi-level marketing will replace all the low end goods distribution using facebook style connection networks.
People might become fat.. so probably some kind of user movement based Wii boards will become more popular as control systems..
Why sit still to control Guthar the Barbarian in your WOW world.. when you can gain bonus XP from actually running, jumping and swinging your arms about.. Gaming + exercise what parent would complain about that..
Thats my prediction.. lets see how much of it comes true
